Philippine Airlines A340-300 Business Class Hong Kong to Manila

  • Welcome onboard one of the few remaining A343 in commercial service. As I continue on to Siargao Philippines, I bid my friends farewell at HKG. No lounge footage this time since I spent my time with my friends at the AMEX lounge. I will have footage of the HKG Amex lounge in a future video.
    The A343 offered a surprisingly quiet ride, though the cabin itself is very dated. The 2-2-2 business cabin was standard for the 90s though now less competitive even on regional routes. The service was great and the two FAs in the rear J cabin were professional/polite and smiled frequently. Despite the full cabin they were always courteous and patient with passengers.

    Over the years, I have flown A340s of Cathay, Emirates and Lufthansa. They are slower than Boeings. However, I find them (and other Airbuses) generally quieter. Their latest A350 is a prime example. Yes, fly them whilst you can before they get retired by airlines!

    I love how the outer engine seemed to disappear as you entered some clouds. The A340 was never my favorite but I flew on it several times and I think it’s definitely about time PAL retires this aircraft. I’ll miss flying on a plane with 4 engines though..

    The noise from the #1 engine is simply the turbine wind milling.

    I've flown China Eastern's Airbus340-300 before in 2011 from Rome to Shanghai, well the big CRT overhead TV in the economy class really impressed me.

      As far as I could remember it was a nice product back then but became really outdated.

    The ascending was really gentle! and the noise in the end is quite concerning..

    The perception of a long slow takeoff is probably not subjective. Airliners can use what's called "flex takeoff power". If the temperature-density equation allows and the plane is light (maybe because it's a short-haul and fuel load is low), the plane doesn't require full takeoff thrust to get airborne in the given runway length. Hence...

    I also flew on the main cabin of the PAL A340 to HKG last Nov. 2017. Service is good and plane is well maintained although they ran out of my preferred meal choice and the plane itself was showing signs of age already.
    And yes, Airbus planes seem quieter than Boeing (no offense though).

    A340-300 is the clunkiest plane ever. It always shakes during takeoff. The climb was very smooth though.

    • @AsiaTravels
      @AsiaTravels  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      PlaneGeek Travels the shaking is probably more related to HKG runway. It has always been the bumpiest runway ihave flown out of

    The 340 is indeed quieter than the 777 at cruise. Heck even a 747-400 is quieter than a 777. How does the 340 compare to an a350 noise wise though?

    A340 hairdryer sounds like a busted ref or aircon at takeoff... sad though one by one they go. Any ways still have a few years until for PAL to enjoy though.
