21 Best Nintendo Switch Games 2022-2023 (Year 6)

- 2022 is done for, but it (and the start of 2023) have given us some absolutely corking games for Switch. Year 6 was a good 'un, but what games were the best of the bunch, the cream of the crop, the third comparative idiom?

An extra shoutout to Kirby Forgotten Land for being as good as it is with ZERO updates. Amazing game, post-game that feels like paid DLC and it's ALL on the cartridge with version 1.0
Brilliant game, me and my four year old daughter are loving it. It just keeps throwing new things at you!

3:36 just picked this one up yesterday! I’m at around level 10 and it’s excellent. Excited about the replayability since you can technically play the main story with each character to experience it as a fresh new game.

The Nintendo Switch was my first "new" console in over 15 years when I first purchased it, and it has been such a great way for us who love retro games to play some retro as well as new awesome titles. I am playing through Octopath Traveler II, and loving every minute of it! Cheers and rock on!

YIPPEE i was waiting for this one! what a great year for the switch
Hard choice picking a favorite of all time but for me it has to be smash bros. It's about to be beat by Monster Hunter Rise but the memories alone can't ever be forgotten. Sitting on the ground and playing with some pals or doing the 8 player smash and watching pure chaos with items is out of this world. I still have my original switch with the one dead pixel and barely used joycons. I retired it for the OLED but it holds so many treasured moments.
Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes and Pokemon Scarlet were the highlights of my year!
I loved my switch oled. Kirby Dreamland deluxe and Triangle strategy are good games for my soul . So beautiful 👍
Kirby and The Forgotten Land is my favorite Switch game i have played and finished 100% recently! i was blown away by the story and how fun it was, not to mention it was my first ever adventure in the Kirby franchise 😄
Cant believe the Switch is that old! granted i didnt get mine till October 2019 but i have loved the system so much 💙

It’s kind of crazy how every 2D-HD game that came out on Switch this cycle is on this list and each have been excellent in their own way. After playing the Live A Live remake, I totally saw where Octopath got its inspiration from and it totally made sense to remake that game using that style.
For me, TMNT Shredder's Revenge lived up to the hype and my expectations. Grinning ear to ear playing from beginning to end. Just fantastic buttery smooth combat and just gorgeous to look at. However, best game I played, even if it was short, was Tinykin. Tried the demo, loved it, bought it, and enjoyed my 7-8 hours with it. If you see it on sale or have game pass and are looking for a chill relaxing game, Tinykin fits the bill.
0:30 and now I have Seasons of Love stuck in my head

Glad to hear there is another Fire Emblem game out there and they went the opposite direction of Three Houses. It's the only Fire Emblem game I've started and never finished because it was WAY too dating sim-y for me.
Team Asano can't be stopped.
Railgrade is a really fun and addictive game. Feels a shame that not many people talk about it
So many great games. My personal favorite? Well, I have nearly 500 hours into the Switch version of No Man's Sky already, so.... pretty much that. Oh, and that's on top of the hundreds of hours I put into the game on other platforms (PC, PSVR) in previous years. I *love* having the game on Switch. I never really played multiplayer in NMS, since it was developed primarily as a single player experience, so I don't miss having that feature. The only feature I really missed at launch was the ability to do daily Quicksilver missions, and that's now been added with the latest update. Now, if they would just add capes into the Switch version, it would have literally everything I personally want from what the other platforms have. That said, as my play time suggests, the game is still amazing on the Switch. So impressed at what Hello Games has pulled off with this port. Other devs could learn a thing or two from them.
Can you tell me what is it you love about the switch version so much that you’ve put so many hours into it?
@@Kev_AH Mostly the convenience. Sure, I could play on PS5, or in PSVR (I no longer have a PC). But the Switch is way more convenient, and the only features lacking from the Switch version are features I wouldn't use much anyway (aside from capes, which are purely cosmetic). The core gameplay experience is intact, and the convenience of the Switch just can't be beat. Especially for gaming while chilling in bed, which is mostly how I play.
That said, the last big content update for NMS (Interceptor) broke the game, so I'm stuck unable to play my main save at all until they fix it. Prior to that, though, the game ran fine. I actually had over 600 hours into the game by the time the Interceptor update hit. I could easily see myself sinking twice as many additional hours - or more - once a patch comes out.
I love playing No Man's Sky on the Switch.
-I think people sleep on Resident Evil 5 and 6 which look absolutely incredible for the switch and they support online multiplayer and half screen.
-Observer is a great, great Sci-fy/Cyberpunk mystery/suspense game that runs smooth and good looking on the Switch. Hell I found myself prefering the Switch version more than my PS5's.
-Assassin's Creed Blackflag looks amazing and runs even better, greatest AC story imho.
-BioShock trilogy but specially Infinite looks and runs a little too good for me not to think there was some sort of sorcery to achieve it.
-Darkside Detective is a great 2D game and it's so fun and inmersive, the artstyle is just top notch.
-Scott Pilgrim Vs The World, because why the hell not, it's great if you enjoyed the comics or movie and lore.

Xenoblade 3 is number 1 for me, but I mean it was the second it was announced tbh. Seriously though what a game. Monolith knocking it out the park once again.
There's a lot of games on this list that I haven't played but, I've really been enjoying fire emblem engage. Definitely one of the best games I've played on switch.

Persona 5 is one of the greatest games ever made. I got fed up with it from oversaturatation of p5 in other games and media. But the game itself is an undeniable 10/10. Its a must play especially if you like jrpgs

I personally would have included 13 Sentinels Aegis Rim, but I can understand others feeling differently.

I haven’t bought it yet, but Dead Cells: Return to Castlevania is calling my name.
Some great games this year, but I think my personal nod goes to Triangle Strategy. Incredibly absorbing, and I don’t feel that it has any significant flaws. Highly recommend for anyone who’s ever enjoyed an SRPG.
Been very tempted to pick that one up. May need to make it the game I play this summer

There are tea parties but, do you honestly think that when you have cup of tea with someone you are on a date? Did we really play same game?

The Nintendo Switch(2017) is now 6 Years old. Based on previous Nintendo hardware lifespan (Averages of ~5 Years) before the introduction of the next generation. The Next Generation of Nintendo Switch hardware should be coming next year(2024) on the Switch's 7th year on the market. In fact its 1+ years long overdo. Switch 2 should have released last year in 2022 on the Swtich's 5th year. So all these Next Gen Switch 2 leaks/ rumors may be real.
That Windows 95 disc behind you is definitely older than the Switch...like 6 years plus a couple extra...🤣
The kind of game that I miss is Ultima online. We as a community would run away from the craziest monsters that came from mining. If you didn't lock your house up they would go inside as well. I can not remember the name of the untouchable monster. I miss the game because it had real building, real mining, real fighting. Where is A better version with all of that. The only issue is that you can get to the final boss way to fast. The makers should have progressed the game. I miss it.
DLC is the best the year had to offer for me MH Sunbreak is the best and also bigger then most new games in 2022 and Cuphead is an artistic icon and a ball buster. Then there was a remake and a port NieR:Automata and Metroid Prime. The rest many good games, but for me forgettable.
You should make one after tears of the kingdom, and it probably will be a great seller too

They need to rerelease bayonetta 3 on the switch 2 that game deserves better.
If ran at a stable 60 and had much cleaner visuals with anti aliasing and at a higher resolution that game would look stunning and play a treat. As it's so ambitious it deserves to shine and get the respect it deserves.
Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is freaking awesome but it's a somewhat slower burn than the other ones, but yeah I ended up putting 480 hours into that game and is still my most played game of all time.

Burger Time was not an Atari game, that is why it is not on the compilation. It was released in 1982 by Data East and was originally port to the Mattel Intellivision. Later on they ported it to the Atari 2600.

My favorite switch games in the last year were Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes, Sonic Frontiers, and Kirby and the Forgotten Land. Kinda sad only one of them got into this list.
I played Three Hopes so much and as of right now it is my favorite game on switch. I beat it already 8 times, with 215 hours in total. Yeah, I love the musou genre so much.
