the question is wich one to get if you only want one. wich one is best for both rythm and lead. I only want one so wich one. wich one to chose for all around playing? THAT'S want we are all here to find the answer to. So if you have both wich do you recommend to someone who is looking to buy just one?
This was super useful. I went with g4 because my other drives and distortion pedals can get that g3 kind of crunch, but that really squishy saturated stuff from the g4 is an amp like tone that I couldn't get before
Cool video thanks dude! I think by around 2:35 when you've really got them dialed in this is one of the best examples of the differences. Really midsy & surgical or super fat & wide. Merry Christmas!
Yes!!! Literally the first thing that popped up when I typed in revv g3 vs g4. Thanks dude!! This helps me decide which one I want without having to watch different videos back to back. You rule. 🤘
It's all subjective but I think the ceres sounds more like a real amp than either revv pedal. But they all sounds great honestly. I also boost the ceres with the eros sometimes for more range
I just recently got myself the g3 and as soon as it arrived I saw the video for the g4 and I was really worried weather I made a bad decision. But thank you fluff for this demo, thanks to it I got the right pedal
Running a G3 into a 68 custom princeton and it makes that little fender amp sound bananas at bedroom volumes. While fender cleans are a button push away.
I preferred the G3. The G4 had the type of nasty and frayed high end that a lot of people dial out of their sound. In particular, I think Fluff’s recommendation of the G4 for a Tele or Strat to be the exact opposite of what I’d do. To each his own.
Agree. G4 for something like a Les Paul. G3 for more single coil thinner sounding guitars. G3 has a getter tone, but the G4 has more response to the aggression switch...
I call it sizzle and yeah its awful. I messed up when I bought the G4. I should know better to buy a pedal without trying it out in person. Im just going to put it back on Reverb but I learned a valuable lesson.
G3 for hipster rock, G4 for kick-in-a-stranger’s-door at dinner time and punch them in the face in front of their family kind of sound. G4 is a go, time now.
The G3 sounds better for classic rock and would cut through better in a live band mix. The G4 is more of a scooped metal sound and will get lost in the mix.
Great demo of the versatility. I was actually thinking about swapping over to the G4, but after this, I think the 3 really cuts a bit better for my setup and style. Thanks for helping me make up my ever-indecisive mind!!
It's decided. I'm still getting both. 😆 They both sound fantastic, and depending on what sound you're looking for, you may want one or the other, or both!
G3 of course, the tone is clear and defined while the G4 is so mushy and hairy. Thank you Ryan for the video, I was hoping you would make a comparison between the two pedals before I buy any of them and here you are.
well I want it for playing both leads and rythm so but I dont want 2 of them lol I think that most here are thinking the same thing. one for all get it?
I finally have both of these pedals and I can agree that the midrange on the G3 is made for super low tunings and sounds great with a 7 or 8 string. The G4 on the other hand adds a saturation on a drop D tuning like none other. If you mix a low and high guitar like this, you get some nasty textures that are still musical regardless of playing speed. I couldn't be happier with these pedals.
Heres an idea. Distortion pedals are presumably made for low gain amps. Why not compare a high gain amp with the pedals engaged against a non metal amp with no high gain channel with the pedals engaged. I'm seriously considering changing my rig and considering changing amps so i can get good clean tones then use pedals when i wanna get really heavy.
Looks like I'm not the only one who noticed both of them together created hm2 chainsaw.lol Honestly,I'm still in love with the amptweaker tight metal version 1
Just bought a Revv G3 today, couldnt be happier with it, tried both the G3 and G3 out, both were excellent distortion pedals, but for me personally i loved the G3, my new fav distortion pedal, and when i boost it with my timmy it sounds amazing! Slowly but surely building up my ideal pedal board. Noise gate is next.
You really need to play these in person. I thought the g4 would be better for lead but I was disappointed in it. The g4 is way too fat sounding. Not fat in a good way. It just lacks tightness. It sounds fizzy as well. The g3 is so much tighter and has way better pick attack. The g4 sounds like a pedal and the g3 sounds much more like an amp. I ended up buying two g3's. One setup for rhythm and the other for lead. Luckily they have a blackout version of the G3 so I can easily tell the two apart.
Super straight forward and helpful comparison. Thank you for this I know what I’m picking up now 👍🏼 Tbh I’ll probably get both eventually but the G3 is my guy for now
Now it made me more confused on what to get haha, G3 sounds more toight & mid rangey, G4 is grittier & more of a scooped sounding gain. How does it compare to a live set up? great vid! more power!
If I had to pick one, it would be the G3, (crunchier and better tone for my ear and the music I like). As you said, both pedals have different applications and it would be ideal to have both.
I like the G3 best. But then again, I play bass. Still, I could see using the G4 for picking and the G3 for fingers. I currently use the FAB metal and distortion pedals in that manner. I think these might sound better.
Torn between one of these 2 or a Bogner Uberschall pedal to run through my JP2C (not that it needs any help, just looking for something a little different distortion wise)
Ill probably end up with both. But I feel I like the tone of g4. But distortion of g3. I will almost always pick the best dist over a prefered e.q. so Ive decided after many vids that Im gonna get the g3 first. And Im gonna guess Ill be happy enough.
I am an owner of a Revv G3 and I love the tight and aggressive tone it has. It sounds the best when the treble and gain are maxed out with the bass and mid at 1 o'clock and the aggression mode switch on red. I am a Metalcore guitarist and a big fan of chugs and riffs.
Yeah I have the g4 and my friends has the g3 and I made a $200 mistake. The g4 has this sizzle too it that sounds cheap that the g3 doesnt have. I thought the g4 on the blue setting was the same as the g3 but it is not.
Hi brother! I think the G3 sounds with much lower, and medium, the G4 is medium, and high ... for my taste, the G3 has more power! I greet you from Argentina!
They are both great sounding pedals but I'm still going with the G3. Just my taste is all. Awesome video . I was wondering who would get to this comparison first.
I wanna hear These pedals......going into a Budget amp, luike a Crate or something like that. Solid state. If we had a killer high end amp,we probably wouuldnt need these pedals
I have the G4 thru my stealth fx loop and the G3 with my Stomp. Already considering getting another G3 for the stealth. Thanks Fluff! Love the updated amp sim btw!
I like the sound of the G3 better. The G4 has more of a scooped sound which I'm not all that fond of. I like the Fuller body and richness of the G3. But both of them have their place, just depends on what kind of a player you are
G4 by far is the better sounding pedal. The G3 would be for amps and guitars which are unable to get that darker low end sound. G4 is what I’d be getting if I were going super heavy weight distortion sounds.
I was thinking about going that route, using the two pedals on a board. Then if you have a good clean amp, you would damn near have the revv for not nearly as much cash.
I'm sure you are going to do this, but ill suggest it anyway ;) compare the purple pedal to the purple channel and same with the red pedal to red channel to see how close they are
my opinion is G3 is better for lead sounds, while G4 is for rhythm, so both pedal with power amp and you ready to gig :) just find acoustic simulator pedal for clean tone, and man you will sound like sound from heaven :)
G4 sounds quite nice, I have the g3 and when using it direct with irs it has way too much mids. G4 sounds like it would be more suited to for that kind of application.
I really wish revv would put out a preamp version of the g3. To me it has way too much mids and is too dark in my effects loop. Sounds good in the clean channel of my amp but I wanted to use it as the lead channel and my tightmetal as my rhythm channel using the loop of my amp because the g3 has such a great feel for soloing.
2:24 with both pedals engaged you unlock the secret HM-2 mode
Truth
You can get that with a decent distorted amp with a distortion pedal going in to it
Lol
lead channel then distortion pedal
now thats pretty funny
The G4 sounds better to me, plus is red so it'll make your playing faster
Yeah it had more articulationi thought.
Please dont tell me you ride a honda lmao
True. That’s why Marty shredded it on the red guitar on Back to the Future
Everyone misses the Gundam joke..

I'd use the G4 for a chunky rhythm tone and use the G3 for my leads or if I'm gonna want a super tight and aggressive tone. Both are A+ pedals to me.
Yeah that G4 is badass it's good enough for both but that G3 does have that nice lead tone!
the question is wich one to get if you only want one. wich one is best for both rythm and lead. I only want one so wich one. wich one to chose for all around playing? The G3 is warmer, chunkier and closer to tubes imo. The G4 sounds great too but I like the KSR Ceres a little better for that kind of tone.
