I have the G3 and to be honest I dont like it infront of an amp. At least not my EVH and Marshall JCM 2000. BUT insane with a normal two note poweramp. Far better than my Kemper. Use it while tracking to save tubes before reamp. I have an Aurora a/d converter and im chocked how close it is to my amps. Its just as good as an amp and even cleaner with some Heavy EQ its just a different sound. Just my personal point of view but its worth a try. Love the channel!
Hey Elmo I know this is an older video but glad I took a look. Those petals are awesome and I think the G3 is the one for me too. I really appreciate you paying for your stuff so people believe your reviews but if you ever change your mind I think we will believe you even if they’re given to you now. Whatever the case thanks for your good honest reviews.
For me unless I was going to the extreme ends of tone in either the G2 and G4, I could get the rest of the sounds in between with the G3. The switch is very powerful.
I have the G3 and at the moment won’t be needing another distortion pedal anytime soon. Each nob on these pedals has probably more head room than needed? Great pedal and Great demo by an excellent guitarist musician teacher guy named Elmo.
Great demo! I was honestly expecting to like the G2 the most before watching this, but the G3 sounded best in this video. I can't afford any of them, so doesn't really matter I guess haha!
You showed a lot of enthusiasm for these. The folks at Revv should like this review. I don't think you mentioned their price. They each run about $230 (US). Thanks for the review.
The Revv G3 is one of those "shockers". Not really a huge distortion fan, I prefer to cascade overdrives, but the G3 blew me away when I tried it. Yes, it does awesome modern high-gain tones, but it's also surprisingly good at lower and mid-gain levels. Primarily a strat player, but it can do the "Hendrix" thing, classic rock, and I've even used it on some country gigs. Revv doesn't make a bad-sounding product.
I use the metal zone through the effects loop and my G3 as the overdrive pedal. Put it in the off position and it has a mild distortion, but together it wales distortion of any sort
Wow fantastic playing and pedals! Even though I liked it, I sold the G4 awhile ago, regret it. But I was playing at low levels in my room at the time. Now I m in a band and looking for to get one again. The G2 sounded so smooth!
These all sound great but I like the sounds you get with the YJM and the Strymon Riverside more. The G2 would probably stack well with those though. It's an eq thang. Cool vid and killer playing per usual.
I got the G3 and it’s wonderful. But Elmo, you need to try an overdrive called the Greer lightspeed organic OD. It responds like an amp instead of a pedal. I bet your plexi would love it.
I ordered the g4 without watching a comparison and I thought it would be the tightest for chunky down tuned chugs power. But from what I heard the g3 was a tightest out of the bunch and rhe g4 sounded kind of flabby. I think I want the g4 and the g3 lmao
Great demo. Was having a difficult time hearing a big difference between the 3 and 4 thinking depending on how one tweaks the EQ you can get good high gain tones out of both?
They all sound great to me! It’s time to put the ol DS-1 on the shelf… now which one of these should I actually purchase? Time to make a decision, thanks Elmo! 🤟🏻👍🏻👍🏻😎🎸😊☮️❤️
Hi Elmo great Demo - it seems that the G3 ist the allrounder for all. By the way, could you tell us about your thoughts about the TC electronics Zeus Drive? Thanks man. R
Thank you for the nice comparison. 😊 I was also wondering between 3 and 4 and it seems 3 will be more suited for my needs. I wish you could punch the drive on the red one to see what it is really capable of.
Couldn't click fast enough. I've never tried any of them, but what I've heard of them have been good. I would like to try their amps. Just started watching. I just bought a digitech RP6 from the 90s that a guy got as a gift from his brother but only used a couple times, then put in a closet and forgot he had it. It's like new and from 1996 I think he told me. I've played a few Digitech pedals and my brother owned an older digitech multi effects even older than the one I just purchased also made in the US and it was killer. They have analogue distortion, and some have great lexicon type reverbs and most have a cool whammy / pitch shifting. Only 40 slots for the RP6, but more than enough for me as 3 or 4 tones is all I use. The rest will be for fun experimenting stuff or particular songs that have effects I normally don't use. I liked the blue one best of all of these to my ears anyway I think. Anyway. Thanks for these videos sir and adding value to my life kind sir. Hope all is well in Finland!
if that blue one had a bit more Low end Id love to get it but it just lacks the beef where the red one has it, yet isnt quite as articulate as the blue? my opinion. so Im really really tirn red or blue. Love them both but red seems to have more Girth ha
- I saw a video of ticha' J using a humbucker (yeah I know they're from Nokialand, but spare with me m'kay, just follow the narrative) - Oh my god he is sick! The big C... you know, colitis.
I’m forced to play fender amps at my school (twins, princetons, super reverbs etc.) but I want to play high gain shred stuff like petrucci, Gilbert, YJM, Guthrie etc. I guess everything from shreddy fusion all the way to technical death metal. I’m playing an ehx metal muff and it sounds terrible. Think I should go with the Revv G4??
I'd also pick the G3. Do you like it more than the JS AT+? That one also sounded great under your fingers. Just trying to decide. Great great channel. Just Subbed. Kudos!
I just got one of these and hooked it directly in line to (nothing else hooked up) my Boss Katana but I can't get it to sound like anything other than muffled garbage. Clean channel, distortion channel, directly in to the power amp (there is no effects loop on mine). Is there something I'm missing or did I just get sold a piece of shit? My understanding was that being a preamp pedal it would work well through the power amp but it sounds like absolute garbage no matter what I do with the tone controls.
@@MrPolevaulter It is only the 50W version. Perhaps it's just not powerful enough to be used in conjunction with preamp pedals? I have heard that solid state amps don't take well to certain types of pedals also. The only other pedal I have is a Boss Metal Zone MT-2 and I can only get it to sound half decent (it is known to be a shit pedal anyway, lol) but it still sounds better than the Revv G4. Some day soon I'll become a real guitar player and get a high wattage tube amp with an effects loop and try it that way. If that doesn't work then the pedal has to be broken.
I’ve got them all on my board, and they respond very well boosted with a TS - especially the G2 (which is the one I love), G3 is slightly on the harsh side - G4 with a TS is insane for lead tones from before. G2+TS - instant classic satch lead tones.
Great review. Thank you. I like G2 the most. If I choose two of the three, I would go for G2 and G4. G4 sounded more "processed" to me. G3 is more "amp-like". Therefore, I would go for G4 over G3, and if I want sound like G3, I would rather try some nice tube amps. This does not mean that G3 is not good. G4 is more "pedal-like" and I want pedal plus amp, not amp plus amp. These pedals are all great and it depends on personal taste.
Sorry, but for me it would have been way more interesting in a clean amp, like a fender, difficult to judge pedals with a plexi sound ... in a plexi ! And the clean sound is not clean ... once more difficult to make an opinion. Did you compare the g3 with the Friedman BE-OD ?
my Boss metalzone crushed the g3 I just bough big time so it will be for sale. even tweeking both pedals for a good while with my cousin playing amazing riffs with my other cousin there listening. I got a perfect just perfect beefy smooth and tight distortion that just gives you eargasm they both felt the same way. the metalzone is just the best and soooo versatile too. to bad but the revv is crap and when I have time it's getting sold. just trying to help. I had the metalzone way back when but got into tube amps and mods but now I want both so the metalzone is back. glad they didnt triple in price lol they certainly could have because they are the best because the 6 buttons that drastictly changes the type of dist you get and that just amazing. smooth round gritty perfect distortion at least 5 types too boot. Why waste 4 times the money what used metalzone are cheap and 10 times better.
Thank u for your video test ! Now, G3 or G4 then, that's my existential question finally... ? P.S. : I play different kind of metal (thrash, death, doom, sludge, grindcore, black, indus...)

Its the same as in the 80's I remembered I had the first 2 at 8 and the second 2 at 4 oclock. very close depends who's playing and pick ups etc.. but still around the same thing. this is in front of the amp. this amp has no fx loop but I remember in does days I had a peavy that had an fxloop and it sounded great both ways. The revv will be put on sale. I also have the Sabbra Cadabra for the sabbath sound that I will keep for now. I just got the Swollen Pickle for fuzz that I will be trying out.
