I myself am working on a grided reimagined Superman 'S' design, treating it as an actual project by researching its evolution, looking at aspects which I believe work best, my initial sketch so happened to hit markers of my grid layout and when dividing into halves or thirds (which I was thrilled about!). Another difference with mine is repeating curved shapes to be as symmetrical as possible, but it does take time.

you don't need the apps to design great logos! Linearity Curve is a free iPad, iPhone and Mac vector app you can use :)
