There is a dance for polka, and like you guessed, they didn’t exactly nail it… These talk show musical numbers always seem a bit forced but Al was such a good sport and song itself was catchy.

Is it possible to make something a standard by sheer force of will? It feels like this is Jimmy Fallon's attempt to create a song that gets played at every holiday party in perpetuity, kind of like the Black Eyed Peas bid for bar mitzvah stardom with "I Gotta Feeling." Also, if you're looking for a Dementia-adjacent New Year's Eve song, I can point you to "New Lang Syne (Thank God It's Over)" by Jim's Big Ego. It's not super funny, but it's good and I play it every year.
