Me. :-) I bought a 2018 Land Cruiser in September, after watching this video. Great truck! But I did the deal with decent off-road tires included. Stock tires don't do the job. I'm loving my new Land Cruiser.

It’s on par with most of the Land Cruisers in terms of reliability. Most of the older Land Rover’s issues were in the engine and drive train. The Australian army fixed that issue. They put in heavy duty live axels, a tougher drive train, and a bulletproof Isuzu 4BD1 3.9 litre Diesel engine.
My father has a Land Cruiser 90 with a 2.7L I4 that runs on 87 (that’s a thing in my country) and can beat every brand new off-road suv that is a square of useless technology and weight. Off-roading is like repairing cars. Older = better. If you test a Toyota FJ40 (40 series) and a Ford F-150 Raptor, although the raptor has crawl control and all of that crap, in the FJ40 you just put it in 4x4 low and don’t touch the brakes or the gas. Off-roading for North Americans is different, search for trails in Brazil or Colombia which is where I live, and the trails in this video are 1/10 in difficulty. In Colombia cars flip over, get stuck af and battle through the trails. In USA you just see a bunch of guys having beers and having a good time with their Jeeps and off-roading in a path that is flat but doesn’t have asphalt. Have a good one! You can buy a Wrangler, take it on camping and picnic trips off pavement often and enjoy it for several years. That's what we did. OR you can buy a Wrangler, drive it faster than it was designed to be driven on primitive roads and have it in the shop most of the time. OR you can buy a Wrangler, spend $25,000 on a lift, fancy wheels, bigger tires and other "upgrades", drive it at reasonable speeds but up steep rocky grades until something brakes and then brag to your friends about how many parts you had to replace. LOTS of people were doing that when we lived in Utah. OR you can buy any Toyota that has skid plates from the factory, drive it faster than any sane person would drive it on backroads, throw some rockcrawling into the mix and have very little expense for repairs. If a person can afford the up-front expense, Toyota vehicles make sense for that kind of driving. Different horses for different courses.
I have a wrangler and I beat it up and off-road it well and nothing major has ever broken on it. I haven't even spent more than 1000 in mods so far and my wrangler comes with skid plates from the factory as well. Both Toyotas and Wranglers are very capable off-roaders and both have their upsides and downsides.
We put the skid plates on our Isuzu Troopers and Jeep Wrangler to good use MANY times. I think my wife and I now have enough experience driving in the backcountry that we could do fairly well with an AWD vehicle without skid plates but, oh my! knowing you can just slow to a crawl and the skid plates will protect the underside of the vehicle if some of the rocks are too big is very comforting to know.

I absolutely love the Land Cruiser but I have 2 gripes. 1 is fuel economy; 18 highway is a little less than ideal. 2 is interior space; the third row takes up a lot of space when not in use and doesn’t offer a lot to passengers when in use. Most of these stem from the overall age of the Cruiser but all around it’s one of my favorite vehicles

The reason why you'd spend this much is that it's a serious off-road vehicle with everything standard as far as luxury goes, it just lacks a Lexus badge. It's kind of like how the Honda S2k costed a pretty penny at one time and people thought it should've been an Acura because nobody equates Honda with luxury.

(1.) Creating a proper off-road vehicle that's not torture on the road (Wrangler) is much more difficult and expensive than you think. (2.) This is a 3 row SUV that come with 85% of the luxuries you'd find on an Escalade and can off-road better than an Escalade. All standard. That takes money, too. Kind of how you gotta pay money for good track performance, you gotta pay money for good off-road performance and luxury.
There is two versions of the land cruiser, the offroader version original was basically a copy of the defender but after that went in it's own direcetion, the comfort versions like this one where completely different and came out before land rover made a 4 door SUV.

My offroading vehicle is a 2010 Prado VX.L which has pretty much the exact same offroad features, and I can't tell you how amazing it is, you're very lucky driving this it's an amazing car!

I have a 2002 LC 200 and this winter it snowed daily half a metre and the LC towed 25 metre trucks. If you want a veichle, buy LC. In 5 years I have it, I've only changed tires, oil and filters.
Mate, this car is meant for australia, it needs a lift kit - new shocks, arb bull bar, all terrain tires as at least a starting point, there are many more things inc. tipan exhaust system and chip, subwoofa, snorkle.
My parents drive around with their $132 500.00 Toyota Land Cruiser 200 series Sahara covered in mud .. Nobody cares .. It's normal to see a Toyota covered bullbar to towball in mud because it's tough and it is a real 4x4 .. Mercedes cannot go off-roading as well as a cruiser and that's why you got strange looks : )
That's a top of the line 4Runner too. If you're talking base 4Runner, this cruiser is about 50k more expensive and the base sr5 is much more capable then the 45k limited anyway
In my country, we get the 4.5L diesel version at about $100,000. I think that is not a bad deal considering its twin, the Lexus LX570, is priced at just under $200,000 over here.

It’s kind of weird that the car’s Crawl Control sounds weird while the older models (2012, 2013, 2014) have a normal sounding Crawl Control. Nevertheless, I love the Land Cruiser and is definitely my favorite vehicle:-)

I see the Land Cruiser outlast all Americans and Germans , land Rover in the Desert of Saudi Arabia. Its the only vehicle I trust driving out there in off road while working in an Electric Utility company.
I have 2013 LC200 series, compare to LC80 its not for heavy off roading, but when u bash this car in desert or vast steppe road it launches, no car can chase LC200 some cars do but when u run a week in the middle of nowhere it always takes me home without any issues, I am driving mine almost 4 years and there is no major interior rattling noises, some of my friends driving Land rover, Nissan Y62, same big SUV's and they have issues with rattling interior noises, major service issues after a few off road trips.
As an Australian, to me it is almost inconceivable that someone could dislike a Land Cruiser

+Wesley Green That's why people usually cough up another $5k for the Lexus version. The reason why you'd spend this much is that it's a serious off-road vehicle with everything standard as far as luxury goes, it just lacks a Lexus badge.
It's kind of like how the Honda S2k costed a pretty penny at one time and people thought it should've been an Acura because nobody equates Honda with luxury.

+Unbearable Pain Its so funny, this car began as a Toyota, then gets rebadged as a Lexus (A luxury Toyota) for the US market (among others). Yet people still question paying that much for a Toyota. Marketing is fascinating. In other countries they offer it with a v8 diesel.
I wouldn't even pay close to that much even if it had the Lexus badge on it, which means nothing except rich Americans think their car is better in some way. This thing isn't worth more than 50k in my opinion.
(1.) Creating a proper off-road vehicle that's not torture on the road (Wrangler) is much more difficult and expensive than you think.
(2.) This is a 3 row SUV that come with 85% of the luxuries you'd find on an Escalade and can off-road better than an Escalade. All standard. That takes money, too.
Kind of how you gotta pay money for good track performance, you gotta pay money for good off-road performance and luxury.
My dad has the 1988 Toyota Land Cruiser collectors edition and that thing runs smooth and has never had a problem

There is two versions of the land cruiser, the offroader version original was basically a copy of the defender but after that went in it's own direcetion, the comfort versions like this one where completely different and came out before land rover made a 4 door SUV.

My offroading vehicle is a 2010 Prado VX.L which has pretty much the exact same offroad features, and I can't tell you how amazing it is, you're very lucky driving this it's an amazing car!

If you want a veichle, buy LC. In 5 years I have it, I've only changed tires, oil and filters.

Mate, this car is meant for australia, it needs a lift kit - new shocks, arb bull bar, all terrain tires as at least a starting point, there are many more things inc. tipan exhaust system and chip, subwoofa, snorkle.
I took a 100K Mercedes GLE Coupe offroad today. The looks you get in town with mud all over the car, priceless.
My parents drive around with their $132 500.00 Toyota Land Cruiser 200 series Sahara covered in mud .. Nobody cares .. It's normal to see a Toyota covered bullbar to towball in mud because it's tough and it is a real 4x4 .. Mercedes cannot go off-roading as well as a cruiser and that's why you got strange looks : )

That's a top of the line 4Runner too. If you're talking base 4Runner, this cruiser is about 50k more expensive and the base sr5 is much more capable then the 45k limited anyway
In my country, we get the 4.5L diesel version at about $100,000. I think that is not a bad deal considering its twin, the Lexus LX570, is priced at just under $200,000 over here.

I have 2013 LC200 series, compare to LC80 its not for heavy off roading, but when u bash this car in desert or vast steppe road it launches, no car can chase LC200 some cars do but when u run a week in the middle of nowhere it always takes me home without any issues, I am driving mine almost 4 years and there is no major interior rattling noises, some of my friends driving Land rover, Nissan Y62, same big SUV's and they have issues with rattling interior noises, major service issues after a few off road trips.
I can do those roads on my two legs, costs $0000 faster than land cruiser..😂😂
