In needlepoint you should always come up in an empty hole and down into a hole with a stitch that is already there in the row above or below. If you do this, you’ll never have the fuzzy yarn or loops or knotting problems. This also helps your tension to be more consistent.

I made many needlepoint projects years ago. I started to get the urge to pick it up again, and I've ordered a kit. This was a good refresher.

Thanks. I bought the fabric from a charity shop and wanted a reminder how to do this. Think I’ll go with the continental stitch. I bought left over threads from the charity shop too, it’s the thicker version. I think they have a number 4 on them so hopefully that’s the correct version.

Is the continental stitch the same as tent stitch please. It would be great to see an example of starting the kit too:)

Any wool craft shop should sell wool... in NZ we have Spotlight, Knit World, Sewing Depot and a lot of others.

Forgive my ignorance, but isn’t this cross-stitch rather than tapestry?

Depending on where you are in the world, you can call it either ❤️🥰

You don't actually show us how to complete the design, ... when we have to change from one colour etc. You haven't replied to anyone's questions.

    This isn’t tapestry, it’s needlepoint

@@lovecraftscom It says right there: "Also known as needlepoint in the UK". In case you didn't already know, tapestry is a form of *handweaving* art where you weave the whole fabric through the vertical 'warp' threads, changing colour as needed to create an image.
