    If you go close to the opposite bank from the historic park on a sunny day, you can see large carp sunning themselves in the fallen trees especially 200m upstream. Mind you they are usually not interested in any bait at the times you can see them. Keep up the great videos, I enjoy them immensely.

    Give away the use of those egg beater reels for lure fishing in this river. Using a closed faced is the way to go as it has a brake on those reels so you can stop a missed timed cast from ending up in snags and bushes and trees etc. Lures can become quite expensive so take note. Funny how as kids we would spend have our day fishing climbing trees to get our lures back lol.

    Love all your videos Alan! One day when you are short of content could you talk about how to buy or select a good rod (steering away from brand promos), but what rod for what job and more importantly what to look for when buying a rod. Whats the dif between kmart $30 and the fishing shop $200 for example. Thanks for all your work (but pretty sure you love your job!).

I know a few local custom rod makers and was hoping to tee something up with them where they can provide some real insight about the differences in the blanks, guides and usage of a non brand, vs brand vs entry level, mid and high end. hope to have something in the new year. Thanks once again and yes loving my job, hope to do a lot more of it next year as the channel and website grow.

    When you add the bream, flathead, huge eels, and usual freshwater species further upstream, it makes the Werribee river a great place to fish. It's funny though, I lived in Point Cook from 2002 to 2011 and only ever fished it once. I had no idea about those perch in there. And those owls are just beautiful birds. Really interesting video mate.

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Darren, always appreciate the insight !! I have lived within 10 minutes of the werribee river for many years and too have hardly fished it. I used to fish closer to the river entrance and catch lots of bream mainly with baits such as maggots and worms. After a few close encounters with snakes I didnt go there for many years. Covid restrictions made me look at the river again further down near the weir straying within travel restrictions. Its a really tough system, often unrewarded. The EPs on evenings hitting surface lures and shallow diving lures though is amazing fun. So suprising how a small fish can hit a surface lure so hard. But ive already had 2 close encounters with tiger snakes. One with my 8 year old son last week. Also the night that we were fishing many police turned up and discovered a body very close to where we were fishing. So its a very unusual location.

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This was above the weir wall. Im not sure if its possible to get a boat in there. You can certainly take a boat up the river mouth near the werribee boat ramp and go all the way up past the cliffs and golf course. Just gotta take it easy as it can get shallow and snaggy. Probably a better spot for a kayak. In this video we launched not far from the Italian club and only went about 1 kilometre up the river. The river was very clean in most parts.

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @fishingmad
      @fishingmad  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Not easy from the banks as the clearings are a little limited. I usually park in the historic park opposite the Italian club and just walk around finding openings and casting wherever I can. Plenty of eps and redfin can be caught like this. Just watch out for the snakes as there are plenty of them around. Almost stood on a 2 meter tiger snake with my son last week.
