Congrats man, you've definitely got the talent in front of the camera and great to hear things are on the up. Although I was really surprised to hear Channel 31 was still on air!
Thanks that's really greatly appreciated. Yeah C31 was extended for a good timeframe, so excited by the opportunity and things it may open for the future.
Massive. One time I was fishing in a lake near cobden and I caught a huge Redfin. I have never tried Redfin before so I was pretty curious. It’s a alright eating fish. A little underrated.
Thanks 👍Jared, It sure was. Very quiet the first hour on plastics and than it went a bit crazy on the bait. Not my usual method but was great to do something different.
Nice Vid! The fish have been really active so far! Hooked a huge bream (at least 35-40cm) on peir, got him to the surface, but my drag was messed up and when I tried to get him up he didn’t move. After realising it was my drag, I had tried to fix it but he came of. 🤦♂️😓🤣🎣
Hi Alan your anchor should be on the stern to keep your fishie away from the anchor line,,and the anchor line tied to the end of the anchor and ,,,,,very light zip ties at the top of the anchor with the line so the anchor can will trip if your anchor gets snagged or caught on the bottom 😉 😀 good luck guys
Thanks Peter, yeah I agree 100%. 99% of the time I have the anchor at the back to save lines getting tangled to anchor. This was an exception on the day as I originally had someones yak tied up on the back of mine to stop them drifting. Cheers
Hi Alan nice video, fantastic size these redfin. Sometimes this fish pull like donkeys and make you believe you hooked up something else bigger, what a pleasure, good on you Alan and hope to see you soon 😃👏💪💪
Thanks Mario, yeah sure is surprising when a redfin pulls drag like that. Hopefully in the next 2 weeks we can arrange a catchup as id like to venture up that way to cover a few landbase spots.
Some nice size fish caught there Alan, your mate was on fire. Never tried freshwater fishing, is it much harder to catch fish? Nice country background. Good work Alan.
Hi John, Yeah I was certainly out fished that morning and took me some time to give up on the plastics before using bait. Fresh water fishing is a lot of fun. Some really big advantages such as no swell, can fish on windy days, and can catch big numbers when you come across schools of fish. Generally it not quite as productive as the bay but equally as good and as much fun. 100% should give it a go. Im happy to recommend some places for you
Hey Alan I love your video and tutorial run through. I’m a beginner starting to fishing for a 3-4weeks now. My first target is RedFin recommend from other people who had a lot of experience. I want to know of how to set up fishing rod, reels and rigs pacific for RedFin on video.i don’t have much fishing kits at the moment I hope u can have advise please
Im glad you have found the content helpful. We have a dedicated members area which really helps beginners learn all the basics. many detailed videos and workshops covering gear choices, how to rig up properly, how to pick the right gear for each species, the best lures and plastics for each species and detailed technique guides you may want to look into that to help fast track your learning www.fishingmad.com.au/member cheers
Melton res? I watch a fair bit Al first time commenting👌 don’t have access to a kayak or boat I fish the banks pulled a big carp out of the res Saturday night, couple eels and 4 small silver perch
Hey mate, Nice Vid , I have been fishing a fair bit lately and got a heap of snags. Wondering what type of line you would recommend for me? will sometimes fish of the piers in the Poineer river and catch some bream, cod and also like to go out to Seaforth for some more land base fishing and I usually will catch whiting out there!
Hi Isaac, it all depends on your target species. When it comes to bream im usually running 4lb or 6 lb and equivalent leader. For whiting i usually fish 8lb to 12lb and on piers for anything slightly bigger 15lb. I put this review together which may be helpful fishingmad.com.au/review/best-braid-fishing-line-2022 ive also got an hour workshop in our members area on fishing lines and how to pick the right ones
@@fishingmad yeah like wise mate your yak kind of gave it away 😂, ended up with 5 nice flatties for the table. Was a lot of rat pinkies around but fun anyway , hope to catch you on the water again some time .
Mine is a tripleshot transducer, needed the berley pro tranducer cover to mount/protect it. Im doing a whole kayak mod series on the members are which will go live over the comign week.
Alan, how are you? I went to the same spot, under West Gate Bridge, (where the Ferry dock platform, met the Ferry man, Dave, lol nice guy) yesterday, Australian’s Day from 8.45am to 5.45 with scotching and did not get a bit and so as many other anglers. Catch nothing. Used, Blue bait, Chicken, Squid, Oyster and mussels we collect from the rock and run 2 small crabs. Nothing. We saw a few large bream/ snappers hanging round the platform. Try to get them with the crab and mussels. No luck. 😢
Great reddies mate.. I fish out of a yak as well an never fished melton res before would you mind giving me a roundabout place where I could launch from thanks heaps
I know me to, the drag was prob a tad loose, but rarely do redfin take off like that. I genuinely thought it was going to be a carp or a cod at first. Was pleasantly surprised to see that big reddie. Not the 50cm one im after but not to far away
Thank you, I put a vid on our members area last week that covers everything that I do to maintain the rods/reels after usage. Basically tighten drag on reels, wash the rods and reels on mist setting thoroughly, pad reels down to remove any access water, dry with a cloth and store in a room thats not to hot.
Hi Alan I've spoken to you before mate I fish from my mobility scooter in the nth east Melbourne and fish at yarrambat but want to try different areas I could go as far as melton or Bacchus marsh would you be able to give me a few places that are flat ground to get to the water cheers jeff
Hi Jeff, this spot would be no good as access is all on downhill dirt roads, Id highly recommend having a look at fishingmad.com.au/locations and also using google maps to check the parking and access for you that's suitable.
Can I get some advice on where to fish? I live out western sydney but would travel 2 hours to get to a good spot. I'm new to this and got no one to teach me but TH-cam. Been out a few times with no luck cause I spend most my time rigging up my line cause it keeps getting caught on the rocks or something 😅 not sure what to do but maybe look for a spot where there are no rocks to get stuck on.
Sorry Shady I'm really sorry im not that familiar with good fishing grounds in NSW, i know VIC inside out and back to front and always happy to catchup with people and show them a few tips. I would recommend try and find a pier or lake and move away from the rocks for the time being, also reduce the jighead or sinker size to avoid any stricture below. Wish I could help more, I have a members area that does a lot of fishing tutorials which is great for beginners, that might be helpful, but unfortunately cant help with spots local to you.
Redfin school up in big numbers, its a massive advantage to be in a kayak with a sounder to find the school. Very productive way of fishing, but i have land based fish of the banks there many times and done OK with plastics and bait
This guys amazing he’d catch a fish in the middle of the Sahara always makes it look easy
Absolute beast of a reddy! And what a great way to kickstart the new year 🤙🏽

When that reel was screaming mate, I was thinking "no way that can be a reddy." What a ripper first fish of 2022.
Yeah my immediate thought was Carp or Cod, perhaps the drag was a tad lose, but rare for redfin to run that hard. Was a great way to kickstart 2022
Good fishing mate
Thanks 👍

Oh no Isaac thats a real shame, the fishing should be great over the next month so hopefully you will catch another really good one very soon
That would've been a good bream. Had a couple areas here in Adelaide that held alot of 40cm bream. My best was a massive 48cm bream.
That the biggest read of ever saying Your videos are the best keep going
Thank you so much 😀 !! Plenty of good stuff in production on the way,

Where abouts are you launching from , I’ve driven all around there and can’t find it.

At the bottom of Clark's Rd there are a couple of tracks leading down to the Reservoir. Take the easiest one :) not the steep one
