Thank you for the video. I can confirm that hair dryer method works for Zoe with 5AQ601 motor. One morning I noticed that preheating was not working. Luckily I have a car from Norway which has additional heaters beside the heat pump which helped me to defrost the car. But as I understand these heaters do not work when preheating. I tried to investigate the problem myself. I did not find any related errors using OBD scanner and PyClip, tested valves, refrigerant pressure was ok. Everything seemed ok but compressor always has 0rpm, and I thought that maybe compressor died. But then I tried to turn on AC by setting min temperature and max fan speed and compressor came to life! After some searching I found this video that helped me to solve the problem. I can draw a conclusion if the compress shows signs of life when you turn on AC but does not work when heating, hair dryer method probably should help you.
This video is ridiculous - I'm watching some bloke telling me to hold a hairdryer up to my wing mirror and then play with the AC controls. And yet it worked - lovely warm air blowing into the car once again. Thanks Nick 👍
One of our Zoe's kept losing AC pressure while no leakes we found. Turned out the inlet ventile was leaking, this can not be found by using gas-leak spray so you have to use soap (or a little spit). The ventile could not be deliverd by the Renault garage. At a universal parts supplier i learned it was a Hella part but they didn't have it in stock but on the Hella box it said that ventile was used on Volvo and Peugeot and i got one from the local Volva dealer for under 10 euro's. One month later the problem seems to be fixed.
This is really useful. I had the opposite problem with my 2020 Zoe AC blowing warm air during this summer. Could you let me know more about the pipe commonly causing the issue. Dealer regassed for £££ and said they tested for leaks, but where has the refrigerant gone if there is no leak?
Hey! You seem to know a lot about the Renault Zoe. And your Videos are very valuable to me. Thanks! So very much. But I've been looking everywhere for information about a working Fault Code Reader for Renault Electric Cars. And especially to the Renault Zoe, as I have acquired one myself. So now to my question for you. Does the Can clip work for the electric car Renault Zoe? And my Zoe is a 2019 model year. With 41 KWh battery. I have the software v216. Thanks! From Tommy Bertilsson from Sweden
Thank you Nic! Its winter and all of a sudden my car stopped heating. It was because i had put the car into eco mode to stop it slipping in the snow!!! I would never of guessed that the eco mode would affect the heating system also. I now have a warm car in winter again! ❄️🥶🔥🌡️🌝🙏
Hi Nick, the pre hear function on my zoe does not work at all. Car barely gets Luke warm when on the move. Dealership suggested a re-gas of the air con at £120, does this sound legit to you? It’s not had a re gas in 4 years
Why do they want to regas it? If it’s not leaked? There’s a common pipe that leaks but if your getting some heat doesn’t sound like it’s broke have you tried all the suggested tips? Remember it’s not a petrol engine it doesn’t get as warm and full fan speed can work negatively
My compressor doesn't start, but with canZE i can see that the gas pressure is ok and the temperatures are correct, internal, external and desired. I think I did what you described correctly, but uf you have any hint, would be much appreciated, the only options i have left are more expensive than the car
There is an eco heater trick on the 22 (never needed it on 40) but it involves turning the air conditioning button off in normal mode before switching to eco. When switched to eco the heating will be strong like it is in normal mode but with the advantage of a properly heated car. You can even put it in auto mode when back in eco too.
@@NicolasRaimo ah cool, going to avoid the Renault dealership, they're trying to charge me £264 to service and inspect the car, then will give me a price for regas..
Both Renault CS and Arnold Clark refused to re gas our AC under warranty for poor heating. They said we had to pay for the re gas so they could check for leaks. If they find a leak they would then repair that under warranty.
@@NicolasRaimo It depends how strong you set your blower. If the blower is only half speed or less, than it's very warm air coming out. Sometimes even in winter, with negative degrees C outside, I am sitting inside the car with t-shirt only, because it's that warm. Never mind about electric consumption, I like it warm ;-)
Thanks for your video. Are you able to use the heater while you are charging? Aparently is impossible. It is so uncomfortable to charge in winter if you have to stay on the car.
If you activate preheat whilst charging, either by timer or from remote, it will heat the car whilst you're in it. Sometimes you may have to open and close the driver door to activate it. Works on my ZE40 👍
Hi guys...does 2017 Zoe Q90 Z.E.40 have a TMS (Thermal Management System)? I can't find anything on the web about this question, maybe you know something :)
I was already able to drive 246 miles (396 km) with one battery load in summer. But then you are not allowed to drive very aggressive and not on fast motorways. See that video in my channel.. :-)
I've seen 180 miles predicted in the summer and as low as 100 in sub-zero winter. 200 is definitely achievable in warm weather with a gentle driving style. As far as I know, in most markets the battery is air cooled, but not warmed or liquid regulated. In Scandinavia I think there is a heater as well. Happy to be corrected by anyone who knows more.
True.. I love driving in eco mode, but I hate when the heater is not really warm them. Why I can't drive with less motor power and still heat up the car? Probably Renault thinks, drivers can't think that much, that they will lower the heater if they like too...
This is why I love TH-cam! Great info with the occasional blunder, instead of TV which is usually polished drivel. By the way, is Eco Mood the same as the "I know you haven't unplugged the SD card, but I'm just going to take two minutes to check if the map has magically updated" mood?
Just found that my Zoe’s fan isn’t working :(. Looks like the logic stuff works, cuz when you press the front demister the fan speed indicators light up, but the fan doesn’t actually spool up. There are a couple of patches of clear screen, just by the vents, so the heat pump is also probably okay. I have some fuses coming from Amazon tomorrow; hopefully it’s something simple like a faulty fuse.
I have an old Renault Megane 🤓 my cars heater has 4 levels, when I bought it it had no problems and always went to 4, but now when I turn the dial when it goes to 4 it stops; it won’t go beyond 3. Which suck because the heating sucks as it is 🤣 if anyone knows what I can do, or if it can be fixed please let me know 🙏🏽
In a normal car about 60% of the fuel becomes waste heat from the motor, so it is easy to bring a lot of heat into the cabin. Electrical motors give about 10% waste heat, not enough to heat the cabin. So an extra heating systems is required.
Wow!!! I wasn't expecting the hairdryer trick to work, I used my hand on the sensor and it worked. Awesome, thanks 😁👍

hair dryer tricks works for me today. do you know why this is happened and is there any guarantee is not going to happen anymore?
Turning down to cold, hearing the AC compressor kick in, then turning to max heat worked for me in my Q90. Thanks Nick.
Thanks Nicolas. It's very handy to know, and at least some of it will apply to any EV with a heat pump. This video is bookmarked for reference.
Thanks for the video Nic,it has given me a better understanding of the heating system.

Compressor could be broke, test if its getting power to it when turned on if YES then compressor likely failed

If heating as heat it’s working it’s not the warmest of heater but if there is any warmth it works. It’s if it’s totally cold

when heater is in AUTO mode it use more battery, or is the same amount of battery % as on MANUAL?
It doesn’t make a difference it’s how hot you got it

Hey Nick, if hi still don.t work,i must go in service?
Yes you likely have a leak ok aircon system
How many miles a 41 kwah Renault zoe can provide? Also has it got active thermomanagement? And what about 0.to.60.miles?

150 miles in a ZE40 as a rule of thumb :)

I need your address my car brake system is not working ZOE 2019
The hair dryer worked again, why does the heater always die when we have the coldest weather 😤
I set mine to 22 degrees on auto and it is toasty.
Does renault zoe have battery heating?
Only in cold climate countries on the 22kwh battery however the ZE40 battery has heating for all countries

What country and what battery you have?
