The consensus now is that slugs are more accurate past 75 yards especially if there’s a breeze and the slugs, hold more energy when hitting a target. Many of the FX gun pros are exclusively, shooting slugs now.
I can’t seem to find any kind of test showing exactly how much energy a slug will produce compared to a pellet at 50 yards or 75 yards. Is it 25% more energy is it 50% more energy? Have you done any test on this? If not would you consider doing any? Basically, it would have to be done using plywood, ballistics gel, and possibly a hog skull to see the penetration compared to a pellet.

Good information. Just want to add some information I drilled out the barrel port to 13/64 that added 53 fps then added a air plenum i had to lower my reg from 2000 psi to 1600psi to keep the jsb 18.13 to 903 fps just fyi.

I haven’t trie the .218 but the .217 in my sig mcx virtus run perfectly I’m getting about 530-560 fps the only problem is they sometimes fall out the rotor clip in the mag but fit perfectly in the barrel they smack hard as well now I recently bought a unregulated ninja air tank pushing 1800psi output and I’m assuming I’ll get an extra 100-300fps with it!!

Im still learning. I have the new Panthera hunter in 22. Now FX does not consider it a slug gun but Ted’s holdover did a video and had tested a bunch of slugs.
Settled with the NSA 20.2 gr in .216. @ 900 fps. Ive been playing around with the gun/tunes but cant get a good group at 20 yards. The one thing I noticed was theres no resistance loading the slug into the breach .. opposite of it being too tight. Im wondering if the .216’s are too small for my specific barrel. Should try the .0005’s or .217’s.
With that said i had better accuracy using the same tune as my 18 gr pellet tune (pellets 890 vs slugs 850).

@@jeansandmyshirt funny just last night i gave the 216’s a go again. This time I already had the gun tuned for 21 grain Dead Centers at 890 fps.. gun is pretty much maxed out with the reg at 150 bar.
Filled a mag with the NSA 20.2’s and first shot 902 FPS… odd, because i thought i would be a little higher considering the pellets are 21.5’s. Averaged 899 with a spread of about 10 fps. This time i was stacking pellets or pretty dam close to it.
For haha’s i tried a few NSA .217’s, shot well but FPS came in lower at around 890… assuming they are a little tighter in the barrel?
Hopefully this weekend i want to get out and try the slugs and the current tune at 50 plus.

I was recommended Nielson 22 cal slugs for my Panthera. Haven’t really messed with them yet but did a little. Upped my tune a bit but accuracy was all over the place. I did notice theres little to no resistance when pushing the slug into the breech. Slugs i have are .216’s and wondering if 216.5’s or 217’s would work out better?

Barrel band tension because of the insert inside the shroud support. The the grub screws tension will make a barrel shoot high or low depending on the insert inside the shroud. Hi or lo

Would like to see how it does at 100 yard and what type of FPE it has with the slugs. To my understanding the speed makes a big difference. Between 900 and 1020 fps should be the magic number depending on the rifle. Anyway that will be cool to watch and see how it will perform 🤙

If you ever decided on a cheaper compressor. Just don't run for more than 15 minutes at a time, and not going to 4500psi, more like 3600psi. If you can, get a long warranty also from like amazon or other retailers. The ones I am looking at, I am not spending more than $250, mainly because I'm cheap, and willing to compromise since I don't shoot that much, and not needing to fill large reserve bottles like scuba tanks. These cheap compressors are best for just filling a gun or two, not bottles. Depends on how much you are willing to compromise.

So please tell me about the hammer spring. You keep saying 2 turns or 3 turns in can the spring fall out if you turn it out all the way. In mechanicing say on a carb you screw the screw all the way in then you turn it out to the specs. Because turning it in all the way gives you a better reference point, then starting it all the way out. Please explain. Great video like always I'm a fan of yours

    • @ALLABOUTAIRGUNS
      @ALLABOUTAIRGUNS  2 ปีที่แล้ว

No the spring is captured, you can back it out all the way counterclockwise which is no hammer spring tension and go inward or clockwise about 6 full turns (most power)

the barrel is not pointing up, but the scope is pointing down. But because you look in a straight line through the scope it may look like the barrel is pointing up.
The bigger the distance you are shooting the more your scope has to point down to compensate the bullet drop for the given distance.

    • @robocarston7029

@@robocarston7029 check out a 20 moa rail attachement, you attach a rail which points down towards the barrel, this rail is used if you shoot over great distance, if you can not turn your scope turrent any further lower you would use this attachment, meaning the scope is the part which points down, but of course you would not understand as a noob with your only knowledge of rifles comming from fortnite.

@@Ineedcoffee-n4j Along with more barrel wear and way more exspensive to shoot yeah. But recently HAM and other professional advice says pellets actually have better BC even at longer ranges. Its the design of the pellet. People have been shooting them for decades. Now if your shooting a .45 cal or larger, then yes slugs are a must. But not smaller bores. I've been shooting over 45 years and never need a slug in a small bore. They make heavy pellets If you need heavier. I just use the next calibur up in size (common sense) if I need the use of more power. And much less headaches!
