Lovely reminders of my home, the upper stretches from Lancaster to the (most unfortunate) terminal at Tewitfield, where trout can be seen in the canal due to the confluence with a local stream. A beautiful video, nicely done, thank you and saludos desde Andalucia.
i have just finished watching this documentary i used to live at the side of the Ribble link when it was being built we looked down from our back garden on Savick Way and watched the lock being built i videoed a lot of the work and still have them as i now live in Bulgaria it was a lovley surprise to find this documentry thank you for posting it
hi John Very enjoyable I know very little about this part of the world I have lived the first part of my life in the West Country and then last part of my life at Grays next to Tilbury Docks
Very professional . Shame 2009 and 2019 our last trip went by without the extension. But it is still one of the best trips if you avoid the crowd and are not in a hurry. Our planned 2020 covid19 trip coming up 11weeks. In a widebeam from Duck Island Boats. Highly recommended by us both canal and yard. Specially as although vastly experienced but getting couple and like a bit of luxury. Yet marvellous value.
A very interesting video...such a pity that no one dare moor near Preston due to mindless vandals and thieves....a great pity that nothing has been done about the supposedly millennium link to re-open the canal to Kendal with the proposed marinas etc...would be nice if they re-opened it beyond Tewitfield locks ....and now the Stainton Aqueduct is damaged and will be costly to repair...hope they repair it before it becomes a major project and then gets abandoned....have ridden on the Water Witch at Crooklands and was enjoyable...
Oh yes. If you come up after 2009 you'll definitely be able to cruise to Kendal. A very optimistic view, but things are slowly happening bit by bit. Possibly 2090 is more realistic. It needs those Northern reaches opening to reduce the overcrowding and lack of permanent moorings as well as providing what will possibly become a very profitable canal as another gateway to the Lakes!
terry Sullivan still no, the canal is wonderful as it is, but the opening of the northern reaches has never happened despite BWs promises in this film!
A great video……they have been talking about it for years…..hahahahaha…..they have not even started on the restoration…all talk and no action…….dream on…….
a brilliant well presented history of the canal...hahahaha..opening the northern reach by 2009..that was 10 years ago and still nothing happening..in your dreams...
+pattherealist Bit harsh. Perhaps it lulled me into such a soporific state , I wasn't able to recall any of the hundreds that now spring easily to mind.

Pity they do not open the rest of the canal to Kendal which they said was a millennium project….still waiting for them to even start……
I love Lancaster but hate the way it's been turned into a student accommodation dormitory, we need to get jobs back.
What a terrible shame what has happened to England and the United States due to illegal immigration.
Really nice blog.
Ah. You missed the incredible Rennie bridge at Bolton-le-sands. Not many bridges contain such a tight curve.
loved the fact that there was no intrusive music making the comentary unlistenable.
"Its me" at 24.12 On my boat Fame at last
Did you realize they where filming a real program?
The Packet Boat Hotel at Bolton le Sands is now private houses.
A super program, could understand every word , and thankfully,no music.

10 years later, and still no connection to Kendal via canal.

This presenter could bore the paint off the walls. Try as I might, I just can't get through this.

What might've been a fascinating documentary *ruined* by the dullest presenter it's possible to imagine.
