    I like the backend of the new 86 a lot more than the old FRS. If they kept the old FRS front end and the new 86 back, it would have been perfect.

    It must be said- the FRS had a better looking front fascia than the GT86. Everything else is better in the GT86. The BRZ is still a better buy than both if you want more 'toys.' Still hoping that either company gives this car at least 30 whp more and 30 Ft-lbs

  • @jeph0309
    @jeph0309 7 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    So much hate for the new 86 front bumper.. I honestly thought it looked bad when I saw it in pictures, but I just bought one and in real life this car is gorgeous (bright red with TRD springs and TRD catback).
    Of course you won't win any drag races, but the car is fun, rewarding and feels fast when you push it at the limits, and that is way more important in my opinion than straight power.
    Traded the FiST for this 86, and no regrets here.

    • @TienDaEditor
      @TienDaEditor 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      agreed, the bumper doesn't translate well on camera but looks really good in person. Looks way more aggressive than the old one imo and less of a "ricer" look.

    • @jeph0309
      @jeph0309 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      More torquey indeed :P.
      Honestly it felt faster but wasn't that much faster, assuming you're using the right gear in the 86. If I had to summarize the differences, I would say the FiST is more direct (better turn-in, more aggressive brakes, big torque) and more fun while the 86 feels more natural and rewarding (better ergonomics, RWD, low CoG, etc).
      I made a little post on reddit where I try to explain the differences if you're interested:
      www.reddit.com/r/ft86/comments/6wcfq5/traded_the_fist_for_an_86/

    • @jeph0309
      @jeph0309 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes It had lift-off oversteer. It made some interesting moments at the track, it was fun for sure! But if you try to foor it mid-corner, it will understeer a little.

    • @jeph0309
      @jeph0309 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      The fiesta has a noticeably worse ride than the 86 believe it or not :P, because of the rear twist beam, the tire profile and the suspension setup. And the seat are way more aggressive than those in the twins.

    • @jeph0309
      @jeph0309 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      A little worse than the frs, and I have lowering springs on my 86! lol but it isn't a deal breaker, they are comparable. I think the biggest difference is the independent rear suspension in the frs vs the twist beam in the FiST

    My dealer pushed an 86 hard to me the other day since it's one of the very few cars light enough to be towed behind my 4 cylinder Tacoma. Toyota has come a long way since 2013 for sure (I have a 2013 Tacoma) and even farther in the last decade when it comes to making better, more exciting cars

      @@consciousa6145 I ended up holding off and got a 2018 BMW m4 instead and a 98 integra gsr, and an Acura TL 04 within 3 years. I do have friends who have the car and it's reliable as long as you're on top of maintenance. But for a daily I'd recommend getting a Honda/Acura for peace of mind as it ways easier to work on and maintain and you can beat on it. I daily a Honda CRV 2021 fully loaded and I put 20k miles a year on my daily cars. Like you, I have a younger sis too, so its best to get them something more safe as all. All Hondas now come with standard safety features as well. If they want a more "expensive car" in the future, I'd say they should start off with a Honda first to gain more behind the wheel experience as well. No matter what a 2013 is still a good option but keep in mind its a 10 year old car with barely any safety features and is less modern now. When purchasing a car always keep account for maintenance records, do a test drive, and inspect the whole car. Good luck on the search for a car and stay safe!

  • @bishoygebrael7078
    @bishoygebrael7078 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I test drove the BRZ and loved it, the problem is I currently drive a 2016 manual camaro ss and just wasn't convinced with the power the BRZ had. I think it just needs 50 more HP which I think is what this car needs. I know everyone says this car is meant for back roads and track driving. While that is true how many brz/86 owners use their cars at those places. So let's hope for at least a 50 hp upgrade.

    • @MattMaranMotoring
      @MattMaranMotoring  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well it depends where you live. Most of my local roads are quite windy so a great handling car is a lot of fun. Anywhere in the middle of the country with all straight roads the 86 wouldn't shine. If you're looking for something smaller that handles similar to a BRZ with more power, consider the BMW M2. If the muscle cars didn't exist, there's a good chance I'd own one of those.

      oyurcha1 some chassis stiffening on areas of the body for less body flexing, suspension wise minor tweaks into shocks and springs that's not as harsh as the 13-16 models more liveable for DD.

    • @oyurcha1
      @oyurcha1 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, Thank you Rain Santiago, I was hoping to hear exactly where those chassis stiffening points are. If I would to start thinking about using a car for the track, chassis dynamics and strength is one of the most important things to consider. Reinforcing the chassis is not fun.

    • @iheartgs400
      @iheartgs400 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      oyurcha1 yep but I wouldn't rule out getting a used 13-16 models the aftermarket for suspension on these cars is massive though I would choose reputable companies like Eibach, Bilstein, Cusco, Ohlins.

      Well they address different things. The BRZ Performance Package only upgrades the brakes and dampers. This 86 I drove had the TRD exhaust, lowering springs and sway bars. Personally I never thought the BRZ brakes were awful, so I think the TRD parts on the 86 made a bigger difference and were more useful on the street.

    • @dreamimage173
      @dreamimage173 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Why is this so hard to understand?! Scion didn't make the FR-S! In 2012, the Toyota 86/Toyota GT86 and Scion FR-S were released to the whole world. But why were there 3 names in 2012? Because Toyota gave the U.S. and Canada the bootleg name, Scion FR-S but gave everyone else (Japan, China, Philippines, Russa, India, France, Australia, you name it...) the Toyota 86 or Toyota GT86 name. Toyota created the car and designed it both in 2012 and the refresh in 2017. Scion had nothing to do with it's design. It was all Toyota! The design of the car was by Toyota.The Scion FR-S was a Toyota designed car, ...with a Scion badge.

    I never really cared for the looks of the FRS but I never found the car ugly. The 86 though that's one ugly front end. A bump of 5 horses is welcome but laughable.

      @iheartgs400 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      SpyderRios it would've been justifiable if they gave it a 2.2 displacement at least it would improve overall powerband of the car. Honestly it was the final drive of the MT that made a better difference.

    Man the Americans get a raw deal with the 86, in the UK climate control, the knee padding and just the general quality is waaay better than the stock 86 and FRS.

    Did they design these cars 15 years ago? There's nothing about them that's really modern. I mean nothing. Their engine pretty much is the same Subaru has been using for over a decade. The interior isn't as nice or updated as my '06 Legacy was and doesn't really have any tech to speak of

    • @iheartgs400
      @iheartgs400 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Jake Kennedy the car is literally a throwback to how sport compacts performed during the late 90's 2000 that gave you analog response in handling and overall interior simplicity. I grew up with those cars during that car and of many that drive or own these cars it's enough. Well the FA20 motor itself is from the XV/Impreza with DI

    I think the new 86 looks fine but IMO, the best looking is the BRZ. BRZ looks more aggressive with the different small details than the FRS/86. And the BRZ is surprisingly rare where I live whereas the FRS/86 are way more common.

    • @iheartgs400
      @iheartgs400 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Samuel Wu prices for the FRS on used market is really reasonable for what your getting the BRZ's are staying in hands of more matured responsible owners. For refinements BRZ is where it at.

    The haters are gonna cry about how cheap the Winjets are lol. I'm glad for those Taiwan headlights no way I'm
    paying 2K at Toyota dealership for your holy grail JDM Monogram headlights. And look Toyota decided to finally give us one instead of those cheap halogens projectors that are so 1990's because everyone was getting the Winjets.
