    I went to a food truck that sold poutine - basically french fries with gravy and cheese curds. The menu listed a few options like bacon topped poutine. I asked for a plain poutine and was told it wasn't on the menu, that I had to order straight from the menu. So I asked for a bacon poutine, hold the bacon. The weirdest food truck incident I had was a food truck that accepted only credit/debit, but due to merchant fees, had a $10 minimum (even though most items on the menu cost less than $10). To get around the $10 minimum rule, those of us waiting in line just combined our orders.

      It's ridiculous that some people think they can get away with that. They think they can get away with ticking off the military or telling their employee they can't go to jury duty because they have to work, but it always bites them in the rear unless their employee doesn't know their rights to get them into trouble. It can all be avoided too if these bosses were decent human beings not on a power trip.

    • @DvanderPluijm

      @@akl2k7 Even if someone who has jury duty doesn't know their rights the government certainly does. Because you can't just send an email saying 'I can't come'. As soon as such an email is received steps get taken. The person in question is contacted to ask why and believe me, they WILL figure out the reason someone can't attend jury duty. After that, as far as I know, the business will be contacted one way or another and will be told, in no uncertain terms, that their employee will, in fact, be coming to serve on the jury or a hefty fine will be sent their way. I think it's even possible for someone to be sent to jail if they prohibit an employee from attending jury duty. So... even if someone's unaware of their rights, the government will make damned sure their rights are upheld.

If that dog found 5 piles of dog "cologne" to roll in, that's a telltale sign of at least 5 irresponsible pet parents who couldn't be bothered to clean up after their fur baby. You people are disgusting. Nobody wants to have to smell, look at, step in, and especially clean up after your "child" no matter where they leave their mess, not to mention that it's a vehicle for potentially contaminating the environment with pathogens and parasites. And it's not just other dogs that may be exposed to these things. Children may also play in those areas. A metric shit-ton is 264.2 gallons. The average price of ice cream in the US is $9.50 per gallon. A metric shit-ton of ice cream is, on average $2509.90.
      That's 1321 pounds (599.20 kg) of ice cream. This does not qualify for bulk transport rates, which means we need to discuss end-user frozen goods transport costs, which after accounting packaging, comes to about $9 per pound if shipping in the US.
      This means it will cost $11889 to transport your metric shit-ton of ice cream. This means the cost of goods is $14,398.90. Add in about 20% for a very generous labor cost for crating, handling, and logistics to get the ice cream to you and the retail cost comes to $17278.68.

With it being a small business, they would not really get in much trouble, but OP could contact the labor board and file a complaint. The business would have no leg to stand on and would have to pay out damages (comp and puni). With it being unpaid time, it would not be much. The biggest hit would be the mark against them at the labor board.

      Ice cream shops that repackage their own house brands into smaller retail packaging often scoop it from very large tubs (think 3-5 gallon range) into their own pint, quart, etc containers. Some places will have it delivered that way. But the way this story came across, that place portions their own ice cream onsite.

      @@EdBurke37 I think the largest tub of ice cream I've ever seen available for commercial retail sale was a 5-quart pail. But that was at a supermarket. And just like how what used to be 3-liter bottles of soda are now only 2.5-liter bottles, the containers have since been downsized to keep their costs and profit margins relatively the same without having to drastically increase the cost of the product. I only mention it because of the cost-benefit aspect of some of the commentary on this story. You have to offer something that people want to buy in a quantity that is in demand. But you have to do it in a way that doesn't drive you into bankruptcy. It seems like that place just never even gave much consideration to the consumer demand aspect of their business.

    Where I work, a *college* came up against a similar issue when they attempted to demote a returning reservist who had been called up to active duty (active war zone no less!). Said reservist made one call, & the college not only got a terse letter from the JAG (military lawyer to civilians), but got a visit from a Colonel who explained to our (idiot/petty/incompetent) HR Director that the reservist not only had to maintain his rank, but was due the *maximum possible pay increases* for the time he was in the war zone. He explained that if the college failed to do that, not only would *ALL* federal funding be withdrawn (remember, college-both direct funding and gov’t student loans & grants) & the college’s accreditation would be removed as well, effectively closing the school. Needless to say he got everything owed to him. That reservist let *everyone* know what had happened. Later, HR hung a sign in their office how they ‘support our returning veterans and reservists’-any time I had to goto HR I never failed to laugh at that sign (not in a good way).*Note- When the college got a new President, that HR Director was ‘retired’(read quietly fired)

    • @randomstuff-qu7sh
      @randomstuff-qu7sh 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Some of those rules are due to laws. Some are a tradition that started due to a manager's or owner's personal preference and linger on even though the original reason is long forgotten. In larger organizations, bureaucracy can be the cause of these foolish rules: people get so caught up in processes and procedures that they forget what the company actually does.
      One thing that seems fairly universal is the lowest level workers, those who are the ones actually doing the thing that makes the money for the company, tend to be the ones who get paid the least and put up with the most bs, both from superiors and customers. To be honest, a lot of companies pay the actual workers so poorly that they have no reason to care. I see that attitude in a lot of customer service type jobs; people mindlessly enforcing stupid rules and being totally inflexible. Years ago, before I stopped shopping at Walmart, I heard a manager screaming at one of their employees for committing the horrible sin of helping a customer find a product that wasn't in the section the employee was working in.

    About the icecream thing.
    Only place I refused to sell more was when I worked in a luxury sandwich store/restaurant.
    We prep these amazing looking open sandwiches in the morning, fill the window with them and people can order them to go or eat here.
    It very common for companies to order a big box to serve at meeting and we take these orders on the phone.
    We don't mind people ordering a couple like 10 pieces to go either.
    But when someone comes in and wants 30-40 pieces to go, we refuse.
    It gets very busy at lunch time and if we sell the whole window we would be short on supply.
    Instead of prepping for next day and other in store orders (fries, salads, and other dishes we need to make on the spot). We need to pull everything out and restock the whole window, while also getting stacking orders of sandwiches costumers want right now that are sold out.
    Yes we would had sold a big order but we would also be extremely stressed, fall behind and needing to deal with annoyed consumers that are waiting.

    • @randomstuff-qu7sh
      @randomstuff-qu7sh 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      To be fair to the ruleslawyer, mobile homes & trailers often don't have the best insulation. I can imagine the noise from the basketball games could become a nuisance, especially if the person worked nights/graveyard shifts and was trying to sleep. That said, if it was a problem with the noise or with damage from the ball going into the trailer park when someone missed a shot, rather than just being a busybody, I think it would have been better to resolve it by hashing the situation out with the Dad rather than complaining to the police. Considering the time/expense he went to for continuing the basketball games, I'd think he would have been able to work something out if the underlying issue were known.
