Spent several hours detailing the car today and then get to sit down and watch a bloke clean a car on TH-cam for 15 mins. Girlfriend looking at me like I’ve gone mad
My wife actually took pictures of me using an electric leaf blower to dry my black Camaro to share with the neighbor - they both think I've lost it. BUT...using the leaf blower makes a HUGE difference in the fight for preventing swirls.
Everyone’s neighbours look at people spending a full day cleaning a car as a bit weird, even more so if you look like you’re enjoying it. My neighbour opposite always comments that they just pay £4 for theirs to be done professionally at the hand wash.
This has quickly become my favorite detailing channel on TH-cam. The Guru is awesome and he details the coolest cars. I also love that he's using stuff that anyone can buy over the counter and most auto part stores like the Turtle Wax products. My sister just purchased a black car so I'm going to send her this link for sure. The Guru is cool AF.
Cheers so much for the feature Joe! The Civic's certainly looking great and I'm truly thankful that you chose the one good wheel for the close-ups haha! Stellar work as always
@ I loved the FN2 since launch, but I always though the spoiler didn't quite look right from certain angles. I think the Mugen (or the hybrid one I have) really complete the car's looks
Noticed that many cleaning and detailing videos are parked on block paving. 2 problems; If care not taken when jet wash used or even high pressure hose, the kiln dried sand between blocks can be blown up onto paintwork, also sand is then washed away from black paving. Suggest park on large tarpaulin to prevent this. What are your thoughts on this?
I have a black Volvo C30 (which, incidentally, is what led me to this channel in the first place) and I've got cleaning supplies on order for it. Living in Canada, owning a black car, and having never properly washed a car before, I'm definitely worried about how this will go lol. But these videos are a superb help and the timing of this one couldn't be better. Thank you good sir for all that you do.
Very useful and appropriate as I am in the process of detailing my black car. I don’t have all the tools and experience of the Guru but here is my routine. 1. Good wash with snow foam etc 2. Clay the body work and wiping each panel as I go with a damp micro fibre (I always use microfibre to dry but always a wet towel never dry). 3. I use a mild cutting polish with my rotary polisher wiping each area with a clean micro fibre. This helps to remove the swirl marks - take your time they will go. I use Poorboys swirl remover but have also used Autoglym Super Resin polish which was more than capable. 4. I then put a coat of Autoglym extra gloss protection on to enhance the polish work. 5. Finally a coat of Carnuba wax to protect the sealant. The results are amazing. I repeat stage 5 roughly every 6 weeks. The whole process takes time but if you are able to follow my plan it helps greatly. Hope this is of use. Thanks for all the advice from the Guru 👍
Automotive Diversity Might as well invest into a ceramic solution, might cost a lot but in the long run it’ll pay dividends and keep your car from getting as dusty as it would with a wax or sealant alternative whether it be an si02 or a simple carnuba based wax that have a less protective barrier. I just coated the paint and wheels of my dad’s model 3 with a few coats of micro detailer intensity-7 and it makes a world of difference when it comes to minor contaminants as nearly all of them are sprayed off just with a pressure rinse, making maintenance unbelievably simple
I don’t even know why I’m watching this. I don’t even have a black car! I just adore this guys voice and the way he does his videos. It’s so so satisfying. Keep it up!
Time it took me to load this video 0:01 Time it took me to like this video 0:01 Thank you for a BLACK car video, it's long overdue! I like that the car has got swirl marks and and imperfections in the paint work and clear coat. Now I can go and apply this caretaking to my own and have a good time.
Great video again Joe. I have a professional window cleaning business so after I've cleaned any of my vehicle's it could be the cars the motorbikes or work vans... I actually rinse off with our ultra pure water which you don't need to blow-dry off it just dries on its own without any water marks... pretty much unless some water has dropped out of a seal somewhere that's been overlooked but that's not very often..😂😂
I just found out about this channel via a recommendation from Roger Bailey two days ago. The first video that shows up on my home page is about detailing black cars. How does TH-cam know?? I drive a 2017 GMC Sierra 2500HD. It's a crew-cab with an eight foot box and a mid-height ( 5 foot/ 1.5m) Mory Master cap. It is just over 22ft/ 6.7m long, 8ft/ 2.4m high and 6.5ft/2m wide and ALL black! The tips in this video will definitely be tried the next time I wash it which will be tomorrow by the looks of the weather forecast. The only problem I see is that it is going to take at least a couple more hours than I usually take to wash all 35 acres of paint. I'll have to throw some more beer in the fridge tonight so they're nice and cold tomorrow. It's going to be a long day. LOL
I own an early 90s Nissan Sunny. It's in great shape and I want to clean it properly every now and again. I would love to see a video with tips on cleaning late 80s/early 90s cars with plastic bumpers et al. Also: cleaning an early 90s car under the bonnet. Love your videos. Keep it up!
Agree with the shampoo foam added to the surface after the prewash I have doing this for years and you are the first person to have mentioned as a technique on a detailing video ( I thought I was on my own) 👍
Presumably these tips apply to any dark colour. My golf is a dark blue and I treat as if black. It's a shame but sunny days are a real pain and my neighbours think I'm a bit odd when I get all my kit ready only to give up saying "it's too sunny". Been caught out more than once when the sun suddenly decides to come out to play. Koch chemie FSE is a real life saver.
Subscribed!! That has to of been of one of the most helpful videos I've ever watched it's just clear consice and no nonsense, speaks to everyman who has a dark coloured car. Looked great afterwards. Nice one.
This video has been more informative about the turtle wax all-in-one than any other video. I didn't know that the pigment would "tint" the clear coat to give it a good finish, but now I do.
Excellent video as usual. After watching realised black cars are not worth the hassle. Especially here in QLD Australia. I will stick with white or silver. The ceramic wax look interesting. I will have a go at that thanks to you. Thankyou.
Good work, think the weather tip is so important, remember trying to wash my car in the sun and it was drying out before I had a chance to clean it properly.
Just used Autoglym bumper and trim gel on my outside trim. WOW, it took them from Gray to Black very well. Also, it has been 2 days and still jet black! Made the colour, green, on the car stand out more!
Nice vid, easy to watch. Had three dark grey cars previous to my black Focus. I love black cars when detailed well. I take about 10-12 hours over 2 days twice a year (spring and autumn) doing an in depth detail. Then wash every week or two which takes an hour or so, weather permitting. I use a lot of Chemical Guys products (VSS, V38 and pads) and especially like their Blacklight glaze and sealant, teamed up with 2 coats of their Pete's 53 wax. I also use Gyeon Wet Coat every 2 months or so for added water repellency. I've seen a few items in your list I like, so it looks like a trip to Amazon etc. Cheers
I’m onto my second (and last) black Civic, dealer offered me a too good to turn down discount if I took my current car off his hands. It’s impossible to keep clean, looks stunning after a wash and wax but never again 😅
I have a black Honda Civic Type R. Because of that and Hondas infamously thin paint It’ll take a respray to make it look decent again. Im much more about making sure mechanicals are good rather than the looks anyway so its very refreshing not worrying about cleaning it all the time, besides it has ‘patina’
Mine is a dark blue (iron blue) 1.5 diesel Clio it’s an absolute nightmare to wash, very similar to a black car. This has helped me very much thank you.
Another great video with excellent narration. The tip about filtered water. It needs to be a zero parts per million filter and then you don't even need to dry the car just ensure the car is rinsed and whenit dried it looks like it's had a wax or a polish especially in hot weather a zero ppm filter can make a huge difference. Also I'd suggest getting a water ppm meter you can get them cheep enough on eBay or Amazon and they confirm the hardness or softness of the water by telling you how many parts per million is in the water. Zero completely pure water is just perfect as it leave no residue what so ever.
I had the paint correction done on my black Focus them had the ceramic coating. Best thing I ever did, it makes it easier to clean and help prevents the dreaded swirls.
my car is Dark Red Wine Purple, advising not to wash when its not cooled down or under the sun as water dries out extremely quick, and better washing the wheels first before body work
Late to the party after just buying a black i30N Performance! The tip on lubricating again before the contact wash is something I'll be trying for sure! Also couldn't help but notice the postcode on the weather app with me being from the CH postcode area myself.
I have owned 3 black Pontiac firebirds, a black bmw 3 series, black bmw 1 series, black Vauxhall vectra, black Audi A4 and black Focus ST, all a hard slog to clean. Of all them the BMW 3 series had the best quality paint and was the easiest to clean and resisted being scratched whilst cleaning, which is the number 1 thing you need to watch out for. Also poor boys black magic wax gives a lovely finishing touch to a freshly cleaned car and provides exceptional water beading.
Great tips mate. Bouncers done and dusted Si leaves my black paint looking great, really silky to touch and a deep gloss. Really lovely to use but Just make sure it can cure for few hours if rain is due.
It's quite funny because I don't even own a car but I enjoy watching guru so much that i'm experimenting with detailing cars of my family and friends and slowly upgrading my equipment. Hopefully I'll be able to afford a kranzle pressure washer and Henry the vacuum cleaner and maybe any old neglected car just to move around from house to house and start my journey as a single detailer. Please, keep it up c:
Totally agree i wash/detail my black car a different way than i do my partner silvery blue car, i use a deep pile microfibre drying towel from autosmart all i do place it on the car and just walk from front to back, then for the sides i use my car blower
I'm a complete amateur but keen on learning best practice when 'cleaning my pride and joy (Black Audi) Enjoying your brilliant and informative videos. Just about to jump into using a clay bar with quality AutoGlym detailer spray as lubricant. What are your thoughts on clay bar on black paintwork and how essential is rewaxing afterwards? I live on Wirral so air pollution is an issue as I'm sure you know.
Do you ever use the neoprene blade squeegees to remove beaded water droplets after washing? I find them a quick easy way to clear large panels quickly with no obvious downsides.
Any possibility of ASMR car cleaning? Why was this car bashed so much? i love the way you take care of your cars and put your time and passion on them. I appreciate and respect the love you have for this Type R despite the bashing. Was it because of the interior? Love your stuff hope you are staying safe and would really enjoy more content.
Great vids as usual and really helpful. I want out and got myself some Magifoam prompted by your vids and im sorry to say I've has a terrible experience with it. Decided to try it on my not very dirty white pride and joy to shift 3 weeks (~500 miles) of the motorway flies. Unusually for me it was otherwise pretty clean. Unfortunetly after following the instructions perfectly, not letting it dwell too long and washing it off i was left with little stains (like coloured water stains) all over the top surfaces. They were really nasty and woud not shift with a cloth or mitt. Fearing they were going to stain i managed to get most of them off with some agressive products i had to hand. Some still remain and I'm having to call the detailer round to correct the paint :.( Autodirect didnt help at all, just said that even though another customer had a similar problem (blamed it on a neighbours bonfire?) it certainly cant have been the foam so... bye. My car certainly hadnt been anywhere contanimated. Even if it had, do you really want to risk using a product that might damage the paint on what appears to be an uncontiminated car?? Think I'll stick to water and 2 buckets or bigger brand products in future.
I have always owned black / dark cars and by far the best finishing product so far is Meguiars ultimate quik wax, quick squirt of that and comes up lovely 👌 really want to try some of the gloss products over at forensic detailing this week too
As always a great vid. Very relaxing and great command of the English language. Well done. Going to do my Range Rover at weekend so will try these out.
Interesting video guru! I've used similar coloured waxes to this in the past and my take on them is that they're only really worth getting if you only plan on either keeping or getting exclusively black (in this example) cars for the foreseeable. Personally, I have always had good results on black paint with Autoglym Super Resin Polish or Megs Ultimate Compound (if more correction is needed). Both of these are about the same price as this turtle wax and I know that the results will be consistent regardless of what colour cars I buy in the future, rather than only being applicable to a certain colour. Just my opinion though!
Thanks very much for the tips. Love the video's. Just bought a black wagon and not had to clean one in this colour since the days of the dreaded t cut so as a detailing newbie it's all a great help. Can't touch the car until we are all released tho as I don't have a driveway so have a month of dust just sitting there looking at me!
As someone with a black car for the last 20 years, I'm not sure I'd get one again. They look fantastic when washed and detailed but are the first to show up road dirt and water marks. Fortunately my black car is kept in a garage, but I'd never get one otherwise. The first tip about hot days is so true.... even on mild days, black cars warm up quickly so I wash and rinse a couple of panels at a time.

Perfect lockdown therapy
My '89 Toyota is a very dark green, I take it most of your tips apply to my car too?
To be fair... It also applies to any colour car.
Man I feel you, I have a 93 Camry in dark green (probably the same colour) and on the next day after a wash it looks dirty and somewhat neglected.
Think we could get a video about the best kinds of towels to use for drying, which to use for washing, etc?
I'm a complete amateur but keen on learning best practice when 'cleaning my pride and joy (Black Audi) Enjoying your brilliant and informative videos. Just about to jump into using a clay bar with quality AutoGlym detailer spray as lubricant. What are your thoughts on clay bar on black paintwork and how essential is rewaxing afterwards? I live on Wirral so air pollution is an issue as I'm sure you know.
Incredibly useful video!! Never considered blow drying a car.
Man i am coming here to watch a video of yours to leave stress away :D Your voice tone is really relaxing and i dont even own a car :D
Looking forward to trying the Turtle Wax Black products on my black 370Z soon.
Find your videos highly satisfying, keep it up, enjoying them 👍🏼
Do you ever use the neoprene blade squeegees to remove beaded water droplets after washing? I find them a quick easy way to clear large panels quickly with no obvious downsides.
Looks great! These products are on my list to try. I’m currently using Poorboys Blackhole glaze and Black Natty Wax which leave the car dripping!
This car gets more thoroughly cleaned than me during bathtime...
Some still remain and I'm having to call the detailer round to correct the paint :.(
Autodirect didnt help at all, just said that even though another customer had a similar problem (blamed it on a neighbours bonfire?) it certainly cant have been the foam so... bye. My car certainly hadnt been anywhere contanimated. Even if it had, do you really want to risk using a product that might damage the paint on what appears to be an uncontiminated car??
Think I'll stick to water and 2 buckets or bigger brand products in future.
I had an FK2.
I loved that car.
Sure it had an R18A engine so not a powerhouse.
But I made sure i kept mine like a mirror.
‘Lubricity’. Yup, definitely going to slip that one into conversation whenever possible.
😲 this is the video I’ve been wanting! I definitely need to get those turtle wax products ASAP.
Nice to see you uploading mate
Long awaited video spot on absolute legend !
Although my black Mondeo vingnale needs your help . I’m only in Liverpool are u availible ?
The new Turtle Wax Black products are very good. Thanks 👍
02:47 if you look closely you can see that there is no Mugen wing mounted, that fk2r wing still looks great.
Very nice video and perfect car choice :)
Yeh it’s a Frankenstein jobbie.
Thanks for your clear English and helpful tips.
14:12 is it polish that makes tree reflection "blurry" or like "wavy" ?
This is the tutorial I need for my NHB EP3. Thank you!
So when is the black polish and wax available to buy , turtel wax site says coming soon
