Thank you! I am a housewife and do all the plumbing, painting and fixing up around my house so this was very helpful to me! I just changed the hose bibs on 2 outside faucets and one of the had no pressure so I think this is the reason!

Thanks a million!!! In all, this was a 20 minute job. 4 minutes turn off the water, remove 2 faucet stems, a trip to and from the local Home Depot in Cedar Hill, TX, it cost me $3.34 to buy both a Pkg of 10 beveled and a Pkg of 10 flat washers, replaced both washers on both faucets, turn the water back on and Voila! No more running water. You're Awesome!!!! Old Girl in Big TX

Cheers Shane! A daft little job which I had no idea how to do. I've now got two kitchen taps like new. My old man would've been proud. He knew how to do all this but his number came up before he could teach me. Thanks once again :-)

Thank you so much!!! , my Dad thought me how to change a tap washer when I was tiny , I haven’t had the need to change one all these years until now , so I asked him for a recap and he told me "well I taught you how to change one you ought to remember" 🤨 so glad I came across this video

Thanks Shane, for including how to remove a stuck spindle. The washer in my tap has not been changed over 10 years, so it's really tough. I had to watch a few videos to find the one which shows what to do if you have an old and hard to remove spindle, and yours covered it well. The simple 6 steps you provided is very simple and easy to follow.

Thankyou so much!! You just saved my butt big time! I accientally pulled the whole top of the tap off drunk at 2am trying to turn on my garden irrigation system. I had to turn off the water to 4 other people's units...and called a 24 hour plumber....they still haven't called me back to organise coming out but thanks to you while i was waiting i watched your video and now everyone;s water is back on...tap is back on..and garden is being happily watered by my irrigation system:))

Hi Annette. Thanks for the comment, it's much appreciated. In regard to the wall mounted taps, normally it's just simply a matter of removing the old tap set by unscrewing it, and then install the new tap set by screwing it on. There's no need to remove any tiles or wall sheeting if that's what you're worried about. Hope that helps. Cheers

I am a 66 year old female on my own... Well, it sounded and looked FAR too easy, but I gave it a go!! It took about 60 seconds!! AND It worked!! Well nearly mostly. It is not dripping so fast, but still just a little bit, but so much better.... Thankyou.

    • @diyforknuckleheads
      @diyforknuckleheads  9 ปีที่แล้ว

+Sherenne Cummiskey That's great Sherenne. If the tap is still leaking you may need to 're-seat' the surface that comes in contact with your tap washer. You can buy a reseating tool from your hardware store if you feel that you need to totally stop the drip. Thanks for your feedback. Cheers :-)

Extra extra tip: I noticed you turned off the tap then gave it another slight turn to 'nut it up'. That's probably what stuffed the washer in the first place.
Gently turn off the tap and as soon as the flow stops, you should stop!

I have fixed my kitchen leak that I had for 2 years, I also replaced the basin handles in the bath room with new ones and stopped a leak by replacing the seal with a new one for the cold water one, however I could not undo the spindle for the hot water one, in future I will have to get a plumber if that stuffs up I just could not move it. Next pay I am going to get the shower and bath handles replaced and the seals. You saved me so much money which I really couldn't afford right now, I was quoted 650 dollars to do the above and fix a toilet. I have checked out the toilet but haven't got a clue how to take off the buttons that flush the toilet. No matter what I tried could not remove them and I stuffed up the 1/2 flush button now..... I bought the seals for it but I just can't move those buttons to get to the bottom and unscrew it and replace the seal. When I can afford it will have to get some rip off merchant to come and fix it for me. I got a new tap for out the back yard I need to replace the whole tap so will give it a go but worried i might stuff it up. :( Thank you so much uncle knackers.....love that name. cheers Thank goodness for people like you who are kind enough to help people like me who thought no way would I be able to do these things. I could not afford to get a plumber out for 2 years. You inspire me Sir.

+Emanuela Davis Thanks Emanuela. I really appreciate that feedback. In relation to those pesky toilet flush buttons, the outside ring around the actual button should screw off. Once that ring is remove you can take off the top of the cistern. Cheers :-)

Norbury, l may have the answer...l said the word 'may'. You know the rubbery, grippy material that some people line their kitchen drawers with? Place some of that around the white enamel before applying the multigrips. This should stop the multigrips from slipping. Just a suggestion...Try it and let me know how it goes. Cheers

Just moved to a water meter so thought I better fix the dripping tap. If I'd known it was that easy I would have done it years ago! Subscribing to see if there's any other stuff I can get done - happy wife = happpy life 😆

Yes Muffen Man. You can just buy a handle and spindle for your tap. Just ask at the hardware shop for the comparison price of the handle and spindle to a whole new tap. There might not be much of a difference. Hope that helps. Cheers mate

    Thanks, just changed mine.
Note it will further help beginners to advise them to also:
    1. When turning off the water main and opening the tap to flush all excess water out that one needs to also OPEN THE TAP ALL THE WAY BEFORE UNSCREWING IT
    2. To undo the spindle turn it ANTI-CLOCKWISE (and to redo it turn it clockwise)
    3. Once the new washer has been added check the red washer on the spindle whether that needs replacing too AND also it is best to apply SILICONE TAPE around the screw part of the spindle before placing it back on the tap and closing it by turning it clockwise. This prevents any leaking.

The instruction was helpful, it turns out there are many non-interchangeable valve stems. I ended up replacing just the bottom gasket and screw so that I could reuse the same valve stem. I made sure not to over-tighten the top nut as was suggested in the video.
