Thanks for the video. I am a 65 year old lady who has just fixed my leaking outdoor tap in a couple of minutes. Fortunately I had the amazing tape in. Thanks very much it’s saved me buying a new tap.😀
A small task I've put off for 15 years (or more), fixed in about 15 minutes. That includes 5 minutes to dig out a selection of spanners/wrenches, 2 minutes to find the tape, 3 minutes to watch your video, 5 minutes to put tools away and 2 minutes to actually fix the drip. SORTED . . . but . . . It gets better . . . Emboldened by my success, I remembered the tap's isolating stop cock in my cellar which gets used twice a year (to avoid frost damage) and always drips after turning on or off. Well, you guessed it . . . also sorted. I spotted your other video AFTER I fixed the stop cock. Anyway, TWO FOR THE PRICE OF ONE. How much should I charge myself? Many thanks
I'd been making excuses to avoid fixing my garden tap while looking up replacement taps. Your 3 minute video made me feel clever and stupid all in one go! But I'm very grateful for you posting it. Fixed mine in about a minute after viewing this! 7 years on, and this video is still helping people. Thank you.
What a lovely bloke. Sitting hear in Singapore and wondering how to fix this little leak and there you have from an encouraging and generous chap. Thanks. Adam
Thank you so much for the information. After two weeks waiting for the plumber to turn up did it myself after watching your video...60 year old widow....maybe I should be a plumber and actually turn up when people expect you. Charity donation made for your help.
Great instructions. Just moved and everytime I turned outside tap on I got a shower! I am a 67 year old lady. Luckily had the tape from my dear old Dad who was a plumber. He would have been proud of me! Now have a leak free tap.
Thank you so much for your video. Ive asked two plumbers before to fix my outside tap but they couldn’t be bothered. I have followed your instructions to the letter and fixed my outside tap in two minutes. You are a star.
Thank you Al, been worrying about our outside tap that leaks when turned on with hose attached for a year now. Watched this, five minutes work and everything is leak free. Very much appreciated 👍
Thanks so much for taking the time to make this video, I've fixed my leak within a few seconds and can now enjoy my new garden irrigation system without damaging the Bluetooth control unit with a drip!
Brilliant. I watched this 3 years ago to fix my leaky garden tap. It started leaking again and I revisited this video. Simple and clear instructions, garden tap fixed again!
Incredible. My tap has been leaking for years. I was ready to buy a replacement then saw this. Five minutes of tinkering and the leak has stopped completely. Thank you.
I've watched numerous TH-cam videos about how to carry out DIY jobs. Often the suggested fix doesn't really work. This is not one of them. I did exactly as you advised and...hey presto, no more leak. All for the price of a roll of PTFE tape, £0.36. Thank you, Al. You're a star.
Been meaning to fix my leaking tap for years. Did not realise it was so easy. Very clear and well explained video. Like another viewer, it took me about three days to find the tape I knew I had, but was buried somewhere in my shed - and then about three minutes to fix the leaking tap! Excellent - thanks very much indeed...
What a great video and the only only one that I've seen that shows this excellent tip. For the past 8 years I've lived with two leaking garden taps (the fixes were a bucket under the one and a pot plant under the other) My main reason was is that a knowledgeable friend had warned me not to tackle the job due worn spindles and left hand threaded nut. So now it has taken in my less than 10 minutes to fix both taps. Just one extra tip, I used some press-stick putty to hold the unscrewed nut up to the tap so that both hands were free to put the tape round the shaft.
Absolutely brilliant demonstration video of how to fix an outside leaking tap. Only takes 5 minutes to do. Mines all leak free. Top bloke with top tips 👏Thank you 🤗
I came across this video by accident but my tap has been leaking like this for about five years. An easy fix and it works! Thank you for the video I really appreciate it.
Brilliant, I was about to go out in the car and get a new tap from Screwfix, I followed your instructions and now I have a leak free tap. I put a bit of ptfe around the thread too to 'belt and braces' it and it's as good as new. Thank you very much for taking the time to show us. 😊
Top man! I've lost count of the number of helpful and informative videos you've posted from changing a radiator over to a review of a car DAB radio. This is yet another great video.
I have avoided using my garage tap for 8 YEARS as it was leaking and I couldn't switch the water supply off to change it. After watching this, it took me 2 minutes to fix it! Thanks so much for posting this video.
Thanks Al. I've had a leaking outside tap for some time now and I had begun to think that it was the nature of the beast, resistance from a long hosepipe etc, but I have tried your suggested fix and it works perfectly. Thank you for offering such a simple but effective solution.
Al - you are a star! An "expert" told me that it would be easier to replace the tap than try to fix the leak. You have saved me a lot of time (and money)!
Just watched your video on leaking tap from handle. I am normally banned from plumbing but had to have a go because I was setting up the hosepipe for garden irrigation for my holiday. Thanks for great advice it worked perfectly, garden plants saved 👍
I've had this problem for ages, always thought my tap was on its last legs and needed replacing. I never realised it was such an easy fix. Watched your video and literally 5 minutes later the problem was fixed. thank you for posting. Stu
Al, you're a top man. Thanks for the no-nonsense, easy to follow and - most importantly - brief tutorial. My tap is now leak free and took two minutes to fix.
Just viewed the brilliant, no nonsense video and repaired both my leaking taps in less than 20 minutes.. Thank you sir you are a gentleman and scholar 🍺🍺.
Just installed an automatic drinker for our sheep and managed to get all of the new fittings to stop leaking, only to discover the tap then leaked! This video sorted that out in minutes. Really clear and incredibly helpful. Many thanks!
I've had a leaking outside tap out back for a couple of years now and following your instructions it's completely cured now..Brilliant thanks for the top tip.. 👍😉
Genius! I can't believe how easy that was or why I've put up with a leaking tap for 2 years. It took longer to get the spanner and PTFE tape from the shed than to do the fix. Thankyou for posting.
Thank you very much, an hour ago I had never heard of PTFE tape, now, for the first time in I don't know how many years, I have a leak free tap! Easy when you know how!
Thank You so much! as a woman, who knows little about these things, your wrench actually saved it more! i think it was because i had a hose connection, & each time i had used it for watering, each time the screw thread had come loose. Thank you Sir! i feel rather proud , in a strange way! i know my father would be looking down & be just a little bit proud, not much! just a little bit x Thanks and best wishes to you x
@@dereton33 Thank you so much , could i just ask you a question please/? i have a kitchen sink, that has been a problem for many a month. well a year actually, when i wash up , the water comes straight back into the kitchen? what is that please? what can i do about it? I have now used the tool to turn off the outside tap that has worked well, i wondered would that back up into the kitchen now its off? i am washing up in the bathroom sink, because i cannot use the kitchen sink x
Thank you again. Such a simple fix but so useful. I'd used this on an internal stop tap many years ago and remembered the video. I cleaned my car today with the usual drip, drip from the outside tap. All the best.
Another superb video Al. You've a great teaching style and given me confidence to try a number of plumbing jobs around the home, including this one. Saving money and building confidence! Thank you!
Brilliant mate. Was literally just about to go out and by a new tap, then thought I’ll google it. Glad I did...saved me a lot of hassle. I’ve also avoided using the mains stop cock in the house through previous experience of them leaking after being turned off - I always crawl about on the public path outside. I now realise that I can do the same fix. After years of DIY this has somehow gone over the top of my head. Many thanks for posting.
This was exactly what I needed to give me the confidence to loosen a nut without switching the water off! I'd like to say I did it with my left hand only whilst holding a camera with my other hand but it took all ten fingers....Thanks very much; you've saved me money!
Just did mine and my neighbours tap after coming across your video . This is why TH-cam is priceless and people like you taking the time to show us how 👍
Great video! Fixed my outside tap for the grand total of 25p for the roll of tape. Been putting it off for ages as know nothing about plumbing! Thanks so much!
Thank you! Put it off for years, but I found some flat dental floss and a C shape wrench tool from a tool kit I've never used. 5 mins later, I feel like a super woman! Thank you for explaining so clearly and giving me the confidence to tackle something which I thought only a man can do!
I have also been putting this off because I thought it meant lying on my kitchen floor and reaching to the back of the cupboard to isolate the tap. With two hands it was almost as easily accomplished as you managed with one. Thanks mate.
I really should have watched before I tried to turn the big nut further down the tap! Fortunately I didn't get very far, so I've followed your instructions, and sorted the leak in about the same time as it took me to write this! Thanks, mate - absolutely brilliant. Problem fixed.
Many thanks for the video. The tightening with a wrench did the trick in under a minute without the need to re-pack. Many thanks for sharing your wisdom!
Looks like this is quite an old video, but you sir, are a legend. I was looking to buy a new one as mine was leaking but then I decided to do a google search to see if there was a fix. It took me straight to your video. Thank you so much! It's worked perfectly...

Brilliant video and advice. Thank you so much! My outdoor tap has been leaking for years!! Been putting it off as I thought I needed a new one. This is now on my list of jobs for tomorrow :) Great to watch a video with no irritating music too....plus you have a nice, calm tone of voice👍
Just to add, I have now fixed my leaking tap!! Took less than about 3 minutes, which included finding my wrench and plumbers' tape😊 No more damp paving flag and bricks. Thank you once again!

I'd got as far as looking for a replacement tap but couldn't find one to match the style of my old tap - so I hunted for a solution - who knew the fix would be so simple! Thank you for an excellent (one-handed) demo.
Just tightening it a little more seems to have worked, but if it starts dripping I know what to do. You're a good guy to have on the internet Al! Really appreciate the videos :)
Thank you so much. I’m extremely grateful that you have taken the time to post this video. Your solution worked perfectly and saved me a long search for a plumber with some spare capacity for a small job. It’s the small army of unsung posters such as yourself that make TH-cam such a valuable too. 👍
I wish I had looked this up years ago! So simple - so effective! Now I am going to forget that the hose is running because I cannot hear the dripping tap to remind me! Many thanks for the tutorial.
Oh how I wish I'd found this years ago. The tap is in the garage and I have relied on a collar made from a plastic milk bottle and a bucket to catch the leaking water. Off to find my PTFE right now! Thanks so much!
I had a very slight leak from the same area. My old man doesn't believe in ptfe tape. He uses tread. He installed many tap using thread! They've held up, some a are a good 35 years old! On topic, a very similar tap is leaking from the spout. Quick fix is closing the tap with a little extra oomph! Thanks for this, I'm going to buy some ptfe tape and renew the old threading.
Couldn't believe it would be so easy after I found this video.... but I did it and it was. Brilliant to not have to call out a plumber, thanks so much.
Thank you! I thought I was going to need a new tap, and a whole pile of effort to replace, but no! All done in 3 minutes flat. I even noticed someone had attempted a fix before, but they had got it completely wrong.
Thank you.💛 I'm on my own again and had to fix a basement tap so I could fill my old timey claw foot tub. Thank you.💛 thank you.💛 I see many hot soaking healing baths ahead. Yay!
You’ve explained things so clearly that even people that might be scared to carry this out this work, will be confident to do it. Just a thought, if the body of the tap hadn’t been tightened up properly, and the gland nut was v tight/ or seized, they could unscrew the whole thing and end up with a bit more of a problem. So it might be prudent to let them know to make sure the body is tight to start with.
Nine years ago you made a video, today you saved me money! Thank you sir!
You are welcome!
Thankyou sir @dereton33

I had a very slight leak from the same area. My old man doesn't believe in ptfe tape. He uses tread. He installed many tap using thread! They've held up, some a are a good 35 years old!
On topic, a very similar tap is leaking from the spout. Quick fix is closing the tap with a little extra oomph!
Thanks for this, I'm going to buy some ptfe tape and renew the old threading.
Thanks Al, my tap had been leaking for years when the hose was on. All sorted now thanks to your video.
No problem.

Thanks. Brilliant video. It helped me fix a tap which was dripping for years and it was done in less than 10 mins!
You're welcome!
Thanks John good idea.
