    I can't even describe how helpful this is for people who are not pros, but are enthusiastic volunteers willing to understand these sound/tech things, thank you guys!

    Good advice on the double cheeseburger. That's 10 cents worth of extra cheese. #value

    The irony of this is I was watching a tutorial and heard the sound of the pick scratching the string and had asked Brian about what pick it was and now watching this video gave me a bit of a chuckle.

    Thanks for the video you guys!! Ah would love it if you could do some demonstrations on stage to get a feeling of how it’d sound with different sounds. Especially for a smaller church with a less tech savvy setup

    you should have done a demonstration with a vocalist on stage so we can hear what you are referring to

    Thumbs up for mentioning Hall of Fame reverb. I have been using that with my ancient Yamaha analog board for years. The board does have built-in effects, but they sound pretty cheesy to me. I'd love to try a blueSky or BigSky on vocals someday-that's on my wish list.

    Thanks. What I'd like to hear from your church, and others, is what the typical congregation member hears out in the middle of the room. Not what arrives at the mixer via the snake, not what you hear in your IEMs and not some mix of stage sources and room mics that's been processed after the fact. I've started doing some recordings from my "pew" when I'm not serving that week.

    The TC HOF II packs a punch 🥊 We still want to try and see if we can implement the mash option more somehow. We’ve been staying in spring reverb, but occasionally shimmer. Combine that with a Boss DD7 and it’s a pretty solid duo.

    • @hacerclic1020
      @hacerclic1020 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's great. I've been using the original HOF on vocals for years, usually on the Mod setting. Would like to try blueSky or BigSky sometime.

    Exactly how do you sound so awesome? the vocalist on raise a hallelujah sounds almost exactly like the recording. How much of that is tracks and how much is live? I’m just curious because that mix sounds amazing. I know how extremely hard it is to get that high level of production live. Good job on it!

    • @worshiptutorials
      @worshiptutorials  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! That’s Majesty - she just sounds like that :). She’s an awesome vocalist. She was actually an American Idol finalist a few years back.
      We do use tracks but our philosophy is that they supplement rather than take the forefront. None of the vocals are tracks - typically just stuff like synths and aux keys/percussion.
      We also have a volunteer who does our live mix that is really, really good at what he does. I’ve featured him (Jody) in the Sunday Vlog series before.

    How about a detailed explanation of how to use plugins in live performance. I just yesterday set up my studiolive 32s routjng all my vocal channels through a PC into Studio One v3 for use with plugins then back to the Studiolive digitally. Mostly just wanted to use the Waves Tune Real-time on vocals. But not sure if I should run all channels through rather than blending digital and analog inputs into the Studiolive because of latency with the digital channels.

    Do you put reverb on harmony vocals? If so, do you change how heavy theirs is versus a lead?

    • @titov7823
      @titov7823 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes. Definitely use verb on bgvs. Actually saturate their verb more than a lead vocal as this will send their vocal to the back.

    Nice to see more people doing Grateful, song is a banger and i think some other people like me might have been skipping it cause the first verse is a little cheesy but it picks up in the chorus.

    Love the content! So helpful, thank you! Question: 8:55 "anthemic" as in more vocals, less instruments, have shorter decay not longer?

    • @northwaybookn
      @northwaybookn 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      inquiring minds I definitely meant longer not shorter. More ambient / broken down moments = longer decay / more space created. Good catch!!

    • @inquiringminds8026
      @inquiringminds8026 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@northwaybookn Thank you for clarifying! I truly appreciate your openness in sharing. I've only played with basic reverb on an analog Mackie mixer, but we are considering updates within the next year or two; so these technical overviews and insights are such a blessing for understanding!

    Thank you for sharing so many great information on all you videos! I was wondering how easy it is to setup the waves system? I am thinking about re purposing some old computer for that, along with our X32 console.

    • @northwaybookn
      @northwaybookn 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Tiago Fatturi On the X32, you can get the waves card and it’s not very difficult. I would recommend getting a Waves server to reduce latency. Id shoot Jeremiahc@waves.com an email and I’m sure he would be happy to help you configure a system that fits what you’re trying to accomplish.

    3 things. Do y’all run the 3 verbs into one another, smallest to largest so that each verb colors the next, or side by side, so that each verb does not color the next?
    I would love to hear how y’all musically switch scenes between songs and some philosophy on mixing so that scene switching feels natural and not jumpy.
    Mixing bass. By the time I get it where I feel it, it is either rattling the room too much, or covering up too much of the other instruments, or ruining intelligibility/ clarity, or all of it. Could you talk about your approach to mixing the low end - kick, bass, synth bass?

    • @northwaybookn
      @northwaybookn 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Matthew Willis We do not run them into one another although we do run our delay into some verb. Brian and I will be talking about that on the next VLOG. Keeping verbs separate actually helps them work better together. You can play around with pre-delay to have one verb pickup where the other one loses steam.
      We might be able to talk about how we get low end sounding tight rather than boomy and muddy in a future video.

    • @worshiptutorials

      I should have made a note about it in the video - this was a little different Sunday for us. We did 7 on this weekend, and we typically do 4 (maybe 5). We had a shorter message and communion for this service, so more than the usual amount of worship.

    Without example it is not helping at all. It is just theory and on paper, more like reading article on reverb.
    With examples it would have helped a lot.
