The run was amazing and he's an insanely skilled and consistent player, his elegant movement reminds me of maxam, the speed he maintained on a rail was nuts, there were very few minor mistakes in the later half caused by his nerves that costed him like 10-15 seconds overall. idk what you mean by "obliterate anything anyone has ever done" though, he beat the previous wr by 4 seconds, I feel like you're belittling muty with that statement, whose run was wayyy sloppier.

i just realized that speedruns are one of the most ethical ways to play fps games. almost no enemies/npcs are killed if not for the purpose of defeating the bigger evils such as nihilanth and the gonarch

People who don't understand and appreciate the skill involved in speed running will look at all the time you have invested and say you should, 'get a life'...I say you don't need to get a life, you already have a...'Half Life!' ;) Okay so bad puns aside, this was a tremendous achievement, you have pushed the game to new levels and even though I'm certain one day this run will be beaten I'm sure that when people look back on this history of Half Life speedrunning this will be talked about as a landmark run.

Speedrunners use BunnymodXT for the essential HUD elements like speedometer and the in-game timer. You can get it from speedrun.com/hl1/resources There is also the cross hair changer in there which I used to just get the dot crosshair. 4) playing the game for thousands of hours helps I guess.
Yeah in this particular example it doesn't really save time, but lower fps make npcs turn faster and we have keys bound to switch fps. There are at least 5 different fps values used during the run for all sorts of things to save time
