@@FarmWithMeNZ here in Minnesota USA flies are seasonal. The only flystrike we had was tail docking or castration done in fly season. Are flies seasonal in NZ?
It happens anyway but if you don't have thousands of sheep you can keep an eye-again it's profit, profit, profit! There's ewes that are no use anymore go to slaughter in really shameful ways!
I've noticed that you don't pull off the fleece that's still sticking to them after it's been sheared. I'm sure it falls off on its own as they run around, but I'm curious if birds come around and pick up the little wool clumps to make nests? Do they eat the maggots? Do birds ever actually land on sheep with flystrike to get at those maggots (like birds will do with ticks on deer), or are sheep too jumpy for that?
The Australian green blowfly lays live maggots on the sheep that crawl down and start biting the sheep causing a wound. Here is a video explaining it th-cam.com/video/SU6fwQbaVtc/w-d-xo.html
Thank you for helping those beautiful babies ❤️🐑❤️🐑❤️🐑❤️
1:50 interesting pattern left behind
Uwielbiam Panafilmy , uwielbiam patrzec jak Pan pomaga swoim owieczkom 😊❤
That has to feel so good to the sheep! ❤❤
Frequent checks and clearing affected wool, then using a antiseptic fly repellent spray makes a huge difference to sheep comfort.
i love how they are like
AHHH AHHHHHHH AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
and then
this is fine i guess
So true.
Good lookin out for em 🌞
Thanks for your support!
I guess once the affected area is exposed to fresh air and sunshine it will start to heal the skin, poor girl.
Sure will.
@@FarmWithMeNZ England ?
The heavy stinking, dirty fleece encourages the flies!
How many do you have?
How many sheep do we have? 2,000 to 3,000 are on the farm most of the year. It's much higher right after lambing. Thanks for your question.
Close up slow mo this guy knows his market
Why do they go to the back like that ?
Does flystrike in your area just happen randomly? Or is there a specific cause? Injury?
They will target injured sheep but it's more random most of the time. The flies pick a random sheep and attack it.

Do you treat the ground after to stop them from crawling back on the porch animal
I'm surprised you're working with bare hands...
They are human hands 😅
Nice

It's sad mulesing is still used as a preventive. It's cruel to them
Go tell PETA and go away.
I read that essential oils can be used and have been successful for fly strike. It's a really good repellent, you might want to try it.....
I read about the procedure and it's cruel to sheep......it causes the animals great pain and distress.......needs to STOP
I had no idea what mulesing was. How awful and cruel
Wow 😮lots of ship from Philippines 🇵🇭❤
Why do they have to be cramped in so tightly...it would seem like they can get hurt.
It's so they can be handled effectively. They are very tough animals, we get hurt easier than they do.
@@FarmWithMeNZ didn't realize they were tough animals. Thanks for sharing.
Folks, we got ourselves another Jumpy! 😂
Hahaha, so true.
I know fly's lay eggs and stuff, but how does or maybe why does this happen? The sheep look healthy.
I'd guess the wool helps create the perfect environment for the eggs to incubate and hatch

The wool attracts blowflies
I'm sure you're going to check each and everyone properly?!
Damn no ointment/medication for the pain and irritation 🙄🤦🏾♂️
Why don’t you talk to them when you do that? It calms them down.
I do sometimes, but as a prey animal, sheep are not calmed by the presence of humans.
Can you treat them with a medicated shampoo and then shave?
That would be a waste of time when you can just shave them
Veterinário 😢
Apply turmeric water and baking soda
Well, this sure puts the “ew” in “ewe.”

your sheeps sure do get a lot oıf flystrike
Not really. You've seen a few cases sure but that's out of 3,000 sheep
Don't you treat the wounds
The maggots will fall off and become flies ...Since no more wool they will be ok and the irration will heal.
