This study Bible teaches a false doctrine of salvation. On page 2502 it conspicuously omits Jesus’ command to believe and be baptized to be saved, Mark 16:15-16. Do you believe baptism is necessary to be saved as Jesus plainly taught in those passages?

@@GodSeekerElijah I can’t endorse any study bibles without reservation because although they are packed with great information they have the potential to mislead due to the inherent theological bias. A topical chain reference bible or a plain reference bible avoids this while still providing lots of extra info. I’d recommend a Thompson chain reference which is available in those translations but the NKJV uses a historically sounder text base. So my recommendation is a NKJV Thompson chain reference!

I share your love for the ESV. Another great feature is the internal maps in the text e.g. Abram travels to Canaan. However the text in the notes is small and this is an issue when you get older. There is a large print version which I purchased, but the internal maps and illustrations are no longer in color. I would gladly had paid a little more to have kept the color. It makes such a difference!

Excellent review of the ESV Study Bible. My current Study Bible has fallen apart into about 9 sections so I am looking for a place to send it to get rebounded. It was my Dad’s Bible and he passed away so I definitely wanted his Bible. He read it every day for 20+ years and highlighted it in yellow. So since I led my Dad to Jesus I wanted his Bible. I have used it every day for 10+ years highlighting it in pink so we see the difference between my Dad’s study and myself. If you have a recommendation for rebinding the Bible please share with me as to whom I can get this done. I am planning on buying the ESV Study Bible!!! Thank you very much for this review!!!‼️👍💪❤️🇺🇸🙌🙏✝️

      THE ESV
If you are a true believe in God and in His word, study the wrongs in this book (ESV). Don't be fooled. If you are honest you will find the following:
      1. It defies the deity of Christ.
      2. It changes salvation from grace to works
      3. It blasphemes' Jesus Christ
      4. It changes prophecy
      5. It defies the virgin birth
      6. If that is not enough there's so much more...
      7. Does away with dispensational teaching
      8. It does away with "rightly dividing" the word of God. God's method of study only found in the KJB.

It's an excellent study Bible. But since I'm not Reformed or Calvinist, I'm put off by the clear bias in the notes and articles. If they were broader in scope I would use it much more than I do. A perfect example is the Baker Illustrated Study Bible, which is unfortunately now out of print - in my mind the best Evangelical study Bible printed in my lifetime.

My biggest beef with this Bible is that I wish they used more contrast on the maps. Green is a color that many people struggle with and they use different shades of green that can be hard to see. Also I have a 2016 Personal size and in it they have the articles in the back. Wonder if they went back to adding it. Great review and great Bible!

Correction for 20:50 - Regarding the articles and essays in the back, newer printings of the ESV Study Bible Personal Size do indeed have this content in the back. Crossway started including it once they ceased including free online access to the Study Bible notes and went to a subscription model. But if you buy a new Personal Size ESVSB today, those notes are included. The new Personal Size also has the maps, but they are on Bible Paper, not the glossy stock.

Are the notes understandable to the lay person? You're a lot more educated in Biblical studies than many of us. What level are the notes on? I've been a Christian for pretty much all my life and am very familiar with the Bible. However, I do notice that many scholars and people writing notes still seem to be far above my level. I know the notes make sense to you with your background. But how do they read for the rest of us?

    • @tabletalk33
      @tabletalk33 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Most any regular Bible reader can understand them. Overall, the Notes are excellent, so, in general, they should not be a problem. The only potential problem I see is the factor of "interpretation" and what different denominations do with that. Different denominations will differ on some of their assumptions and conclusions. That's to be expected and that's why there are so many different denominations.

Also, Schuyler has created a full blown premium Schuyler ESV Study Bible available for preorder now. Will you be getting one, Matthew? It has to be the ultimate. I do have some duplicates on top of that number as well because if I like one enough to highlight and take notes in it I will buy a second copy to keep an unmarked one. I also have a couple dozen regular Bible with no study notes, but I don’t tend to buy those anymore.
To be fair though I’m in my 50s and my only “hobby” is theology. I’m sure my entire theology library (around 500 books currently but growing) cost less than a fishing boat or a nice camper etc... I try to get the best quality editions and I keep the original boxes so that they only have ware from me reading them. I also don’t mark in any of my books unless I get a second copy. This will allow me to pass on a library of well maintained and unmarked books to someone else when I die. I also try to only keep books that are theologically sound (conservative evangelical) so that I don’t pass on garbage to the next generation. That has caused me to chuck a few books (and bibles) in the trash.

This led me to also read your book on Edwards's Theology of Joy, which too was a wonderful read. I found myself more-dare I say-happy in God after reading it. But having read a fair deal of Edwards myself, I can say with all honesty that both of your books on him evoked greater love in my heart not for the man Edwards, but for the gloriously happy God of Jonathan Edwards. So thank you brother for your contribution to the advancement of Edwardsean theology in the church and, most of all, to the kingdom of our great God!

As a presbyterian I too prefer the ESV study bible over the reformation study Bible. Not because the ESVSB notes are especially more reformed but there is just such a wealth of solid information and obviously they aren't too off from reformed theology. Where they aren't I like the challenge that makes me look deeper. I mean it does have Assembly of God even represented in second Peter and Jude! Not what I would have picked but interesting.

Do you know that there are language translations in the bible itself? Paul spoke Hebrew in the book of Acts but it was written in Greek. Did Luke get it right or he just could not translate from Hebrew to Greek? Thanks for your comment, except for the name calling. 😊

@@Believe_the_Bible provide the proof of your baseless claims. We can compare versions, scrolls fragments and correspond the original translations to the language. "in the Bible itself?. Its not a book, duuh, its a series of books, 66 in all, written by many from the original tongues, and versions can be compared. Read "formation of the Bible" by lee martin mcdonald.

Why do you think the newer translations have gone away from the Red Lettering of the Words of Christ? Curious if you have any thoughts on that. It is my number one complaint with many of the newer translations.

I agree and I bring that to our church as well. I have the personal size.

I wanted the personal size but the notes are just too small for my poor eyeballs. Even the regular size strains me. I bought the large print. Definitely not for church! It's huge. But it's wonderful.

      THE ESV
If you are a true believer in God and in His word, study the wrongs in this book (ESV). Don't be fooled. If you are honest you will find the following:
      1. It defies the deity of Christ.
      2. It changes salvation from grace to works
      3. It blasphemes' Jesus Christ
      4. It changes prophecy
      5. It defies the virgin birth
      6. If that is not enough there's so much more...
      7. Does away with dispensational teaching
      8. It does away with "rightly dividing" the word of God. God's method of study only found in the KJB.
Use the only English bible that has the words of God - the KJB. Yes, I have scripture proof of each claim I made here.

I enjoy reading the ESV as well. I think it is a fine translation. I like the NKJV and KJV too. And some others as well.

I think you are right as far as a Calvinist leaning Bible translation and notes… but here come the ‘haters’… the Dake Annotated Reference Bible in the KJV or in the NKJV is the best for those who lean towards a Charismatic/Pentecostal Arminian position and experience…
