You two are some of the hardest working people I’ve ever seen. I’m 63 and you make me wanna get off the couch and do something. For real tho you two are an awesome team.
Because of your videos I’m 65 and I know how to clear brushes and branches from my yard. I don’t have to ask anyone to help. I can’t wait to see your new garden
You two are the only homesteaders I know who eat meals a 4-star chef would create on the daily. LOL Done the right way! Also... seriously genius bush engineering on the dirt sifter!! Love me some time saver devices. Our time is our most valuable asset and the thing most say they have the least of. Onward...

Great going. Remember the hay fed to horses has probably been sprayed with Grazon. Doesn’t hurt the animal it just passes through to the manure but it kills garden plants. The amount of mosquitoes on Eric’s hoodie gave me the shivers. Lol.
They're HUGE! I always assumed those horrible things only liked hot weather! But I saw a Swedish channel where it was barely out of winter and they were already starting to have them. Ugh, I hate those evil, blood sucking little vampires.
@@SimpleLivingAlaska Also horses are wormed, and manure not aged, washed by rainfall will still have worming concoctions in there, so can be a death sentence to natural worms, that's if your area has them?
Rosemary. The lovely scent of rosemary pulls double duty: It welcomes pollinators, but is off-putting to mosquitoes. Lavender produces a strong and pleasant aroma that mosquitoes find repulsive.
I completely agree! May be able to plant in moveable garden beds and over-winter in shop or warmer space. I've done a bit of time in jungles in Central and South America. I do so very much enjoy watching you two working together. I'm 77 and remember well my grandpa and grandma on my dad's side, working a sharecrop farm together. They went to the cotton fields at day break and picked and loaded cotton. Then they walking back to their tiny little house and ate together. Married over 60 years at my grandma's death. He died not long after. So few marriages today combine the energy and love for each other like you two. God Bless you both.

Awesome, Eric & Arielle! Today’s video is a lesson on the “Circles of Life”…… composting, soil, chickens, manure. I sifted the soil for one of my gardens, (but on a smaller scale) - - the dirt was from an abandoned creek bed sort was really wonderful, but totally full of weeds. I ran it through s hardware-cloth screen (1/2" mesh) stretched over a wood frame on top of a wheel barrow. You don't know how much joy your video has brought me today. My mental health has taken a kicking (I was video recorded for being fat by someone who thought it was funny). Thank you for bringing light into my life on a very dark day. ❤️🇬🇧
I had that happen to me once it was at a pool once and it was two parents with their two kids and they took a photo of me and proceeded to take video and said to their girls you don’t want to be fat like her someday do you? She shouldn’t be allowed in public looking like that. I told them I may be fat but I can do something about it but unfortunately rude and ignorant people don’t have any hope of changing they are jerks and always will be. They both laughed at that. I told them all this out of ear shot of their parents. So I hoped they would tell their mother what I had said. Unfortunately there are just obnoxious rude people in this world. Im glad this video gave you some relief from thinking about it but please don’t let their rudeness ruin whatever you want to accomplish!! Just remember... we may be what they are commenting on, but they are the ones who are lacking in empathy, manners and oftentimes intellect!! Don't let them get you down no matter why they do it.
Bandit's ready! Those hens are giving you "The Chicken Eye" after the flock got reduced. Nice having some chicks, new life in spring is always a good thing. That garden soil should be great. You should be able to create some great rows of raised bedding with pathways between. Some heavy bedding of straw to help retain moisture and hinder the growth of weeds wouldn't hurt either. Nice sifter. If you decide to work it again, stagger the next panel over the welded one and hang it with some carabiners, tie off the corners to keep it stable laterally and you should be GTG for round two of the left over pile. If you're finding a need for more weight/traction for the tractor, fill your tires with glycol. Probably heavier than water (which is 8lbs/gal) and won't freeze up on you. Homie HATES skeeters! Because they LOVE me.
Frame in the porch and put on screening, that will keep the state bird away from your outside dinning and cooking!!!! Will you be using the netting over parts of the "run"? So much work be once it's done you'll enjoy it every summer. Maybe a small screen "tent" as a gazebo in the garden. Nice place to sit and drink morning coffee. You could still put the flooring up on the walls. I'm glad we used vinyl in our coop 3 years ago. So easy to clean up. Thanks for sharing. God bless and protect.
Like the idea of the looping the low lying branches, you may also want to look at thinking the young trees, sapling’s that are growing close to the bigger trees. Removing them will allow more nutrients to feed the larger trees .
Fox are raising pups this time of year and definitely will be smart enough to take chickens during the day. Free ranging chickens are an easy free meal to come back for again and again to feed their growing family. Clearing brush won’t keep them from the easy meal opportunities free ranging chickens offer. Love the new garden and I can’t wait to see all the gardening success!
Love its back to gardening time. You guys make anything seem possible for those of us who struggle alone to build our dream gardens. Your channel is my number 1 favorite and have been since I discovered it during the 1st round of covid. Best thing that came out of that crazy time. Keep up the good work. Stay safe.
My Daddy started a mobile home park in the 70s we had to pick up roots after school out of the cleared land I hated the dry dust on my hands I'd never thot I'd grow up and love flowers gardening planting digging loving to see things come to life in spring he needed that big sifter lol thanks for bringing a memory back he's gone now❤
Funny story from many, many years ago. Back in the early 1970s, my great aunt visited us when we moved into our new house and were working on developing the backyard. This was in the San Francisco East Bay and our soil was just nothing but rock hard clay. We had hundreds of 50 pound bags labelled "Steer Manure." My great aunt, who was about 70 at the time looked at the bags in confusion and said, "How do they know it's steer? Do they follow them around and collect it specifically?" Yeah, a lifelong farmer.... I remember my parents nearly losing it laughing, and then taking here out to the San Joaquin Valley to see multiple thousand plus head of steer herds run by the Harris Ranch.
I began watching you years ago because I garden. Didn't take long for me to fall in love with your channel and all your adventures. However, I AM particularly excited for your garden to be constructed. You are GENIUS the way you make the sifter. That soil will be perfection.
Your garden is going to me massive compared to the old one. When I was a kid my dad made a sifter from 2" wire grid that he formed into a barrel shape. He made two of these, one fitting inside the other. The outside was stationary and the inside revolved to move the packed dirt through the sieves. A motor was attached to the inside sieve to turn it. There were rims, probably from oil barrels, that were on both ends of the 'barrel' with wheels between them at the rim so the inside could move freely. If I ever have a garden, I would definitely try and make one of these.
Y'all need to invest in a chipper attachment to your tractor's PTO. You could chip all the branches and debris from the forest, as well as your waste slabs/bark from your sawmilling. It would be good to compost, or to use as mulch in the new garden. Things are looking good at the homestead.
Excited to see the garden this year more room to grow more... you need a wood chipper can use it for many reasons... love watching you guys especially when you do canning...❤
Yaay, I am so excited for this new garden and all you can grow here. The dirt looks so healthy, when you opened the plastic to reveal the seedlings my heart skipped a little. xx
My favorite couple are hard at work getting the sight of garden ready this year, and you know it will be one of the best one in the whole state, love there perfection. I know you two will a great job. my prayers are with you and all endeviers will work and keep you both safe.🙏🙏👍👍😊
Y'all grab some of those vinyl tablecloths with the flannel (ish) backing the next supply run. Staple them to the wall behind the roost. Almost as good as the linoleum on the floor!
You can build a torch on wheels that can burn a swatch several feet wide, and torch the weeds and seeds really effectively. This will allow you to leave most of the top soil in place. It's an effective weed control. As you rotate the crops during the season you torch again to kill emerges. Over a season or two you'll have most weed pressure eliminated.
Arielle even though I live in an extremely different climate I have learnt so much about gardening from you and apply it to my gardening practices. Foxes are clearly sneaking creatures . Such wonderful process so far in your garden. It will be such a celebration when you can harvest salad leaves carrots and hens to eat
Hope you let him know how much you appreciate him. My dad was like that and I always relied on him but I know I didn’t tell him as often as I should have.
So excited! Feels like we’ve been waiting forever to see you start the new garden. It must feel absolutely awesome to be breaking ground on this project!
Im so happy to see the new garden coming along, its so exciting. You have done amazing with all the different projects and buildings you have done since you came to your new home, its incredible. Amazing all the different things you can do with your tractor, you definitely needed that and I love the big smile on your face Eric when you are driving it. You both work so hard x
Hello beautiful people! Circumstances beyond my control have left me with no dirt to play in this year (😥), so I am SO looking forward to watching your garden!!! Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU!!!❤✌🤠
Your Garden makes my 4 x 8 foot raised Garden look like a tiny ant hill !!! I once had a huge garden , but at 77 years of age , My Huge Garden Gardening Days are over !!!! Good Luck this year !! I look forward to seeing it in The Fall !!!!!!!!
I wish you guys had sheep. I can just see all the different things you would make with goat milk. I just love watching yours video. You both are very hard workers. Love from indiana ❤❤❤❤❤❤
You guys need to have some bat boxes to try and entice them to live near you. They will deal with your mosquito problem in a big way. or if you have a small little, get yourself some dragonfly larva when they hatch they’ll start hunting down your mosquitoes. My first choice would be the bats.
Get a short ladder so you can pop the branches off up to 8 or 10 feet. You'll love how much it opens things up without taking trees down. You can pop off small new branches in a year or two with a machette and not mess with the saw. It lets more light in too.
If you get a chipper that would chop up to 3"-4" tree limbs you could save a lot of hauling off trees and make your own mulch and compost. I'd take all that doesn't go through the dirt sifter and mix the wood chips with that top soil and let it compost down a year and sift it down 1/2" to 1/4" and you'll have some find garden soil and soil you can start your plants in starter pots in the spring time. The rocks you sift out could go in your gravel roadway or use larger rocks for landscape or building. Some of the trees could be used to make raised beds and the other tree trimmings used to fill the raised beds Hugelkultur style. Check out Jake and Nicole's early videos on making raised beds in Canada. Nothing is wasted, nothing is thrown away, and all makes better soil life.
Ariel - think I told you about flooring! used your feed bags if you get the coated ones stapled on wall to keep it clean. When dirty, remove and replace! Love your chicken breed! You care for them so well!

use 2 sheets of mesh to decrease the size of the sifted material, just offset the mesh to get it 2x2 also besides 2x4

yes!! Gardening is back on the menu!! Love all the variation you two show us .
I’m just excited to watch this huge garden turn into a lush field of crops!!!!
You all put out great videos..just love how both of you can work so well together and get things done...wishing you both the best.
You two have an immense amount of equanimity when living with the mosquitoes. I was reaching the end of my rope just watching you deal with them.
We had hundreds of 50 pound bags labelled "Steer Manure."
My great aunt, who was about 70 at the time looked at the bags in confusion and said, "How do they know it's steer? Do they follow them around and collect it specifically?"
Yeah, a lifelong farmer.... I remember my parents nearly losing it laughing, and then taking here out to the San Joaquin Valley to see multiple thousand plus head of steer herds run by the Harris Ranch.
You guys will have the new garden looking just as good as the old one in no time.
Place is coming along great you two tractor is a blessing for all the yard duties you couldn’t be without it!!!
Good afternoon from Syracuse NY everyone thank you for sharing your new adventures in your lives
You guys are so free. I love it that you work hard to make your life. The best that I can be in a habitat. It’s not easy.
Excited to see the garden this year more room to grow more... you need a wood chipper can use it for many reasons... love watching you guys especially when you do canning...❤
Love your channel so much Arielle and Eric. I am happy to support your efforts so we can all learn! ❤
Thank you so much!
Yaay, I am so excited for this new garden and all you can grow here. The dirt looks so healthy, when you opened the plastic to reveal the seedlings my heart skipped a little. xx
Yes!!! We were on vacation and I held back watching the garden video. Home now, on the deck, having a puff, watching your video. Bliss! ❤❤❤
Always a beautiful thing to see new life on the farm
I look forward each week to see what new projects y'all have going on. That supper of nachos looks delicious...
You are just like my husband you can build anything out of anything and it always works
I know right? Constantly amazed by their ingenuity.
Hope you let him know how much you appreciate him. My dad was like that and I always relied on him but I know I didn’t tell him as often as I should have.
So excited! Feels like we’ve been waiting forever to see you start the new garden. It must feel absolutely awesome to be breaking ground on this project!
Good Morning My Favorite TH-cam Channel. I'm So Glad To have my coffee while I watch you. I always enjoy watching you. 🙏🕊️🌹🥀🌼🌻☕💜❤️
You two work so hard! I don't know where you get all that energy! I sure enjoy watching everything you get done each week.
Them Skeeters is HUGE ..Just a couple of them make a meal.
Aloha. Goat milk from sheep? Cool.
Thankyou for being a responsible homesteader regarding your brush. We live in southern British Columbia and we already have forest fires!
Those nachos look heavenlyyyyy ✨😻✨
Did some say "GARDEN"?! This is going to be EPIC! 😆🧡
Ariel - think I told you about flooring! used your feed bags if you get the coated ones stapled on wall to keep it clean. When dirty, remove and replace! Love your chicken breed! You care for them so well!
