Please know you are not alone in your journey to overcome depression. Have struggled for years; had some tough ones, other times I can work through it. It’s wonderful to hear more and more women speaking out about an illness that many people think you “can snap out of”! The more light we shine on it, the more healing can occur. Thank you for sharing and also for sharing your beautiful craft. I adore cardmaking; it’s my happy place. Some cards I keep, but many I donate. It makes me smile, knowing I’ve hopefully brightened someone’s day.

Sweet Jennifer, thanks for sharing a special part of you with us. I would never know you had any difficulties at all, but realistically, I know it is in every family to some degree. Card making has helped me through difficult times greatly! I live with chronic pain and being in my late 70s, I know so many who have challenges of all kinds, including depression. How wonderful that we can live our lives supporting each other at this age where I am now. It is truly God's purpose for us to help others which in fact really helps us. I always thought "after children, retirement and late life" was going to be smooth sailing, easier and ok to be a little more selfish. Wrong! If we allow God to direct our lives, HE will use every ounce of energy we have to live HIS will in love for others. And, it's a joy! Your cards are wonderful. I don't stitch, but these lovelies are enticing for learning something new. Thank you again. God Bless and I hope your cold disappears soon!

Nearly 250 people have commented on your heartfelt video, and may I say, what an amazing, wonderful community of caring people. Honestly, we all feel like we know you, and of course, we all love you to pieces. May I just say thank you, Jennifer, for being YOU. Your emphasis on sharing kindness is something that has meant a lot to me since I started making cards 2 years ago. I began to realize that it is important not only to be kind to others, but also to myself. You've made a difference in my life, and I guess there is no better time than now to let you know! God bless you, Jennifer as you go through this time. Take care, and thank you for sharing those beautiful cards with us! They are adorable!

Dear Jennifer, these cards are amazing! I'm sorry for the loss of your family member, and I pray the warm, loving, and funny memories ease your walk into this season of grief. Thank you for your transparency. I didn't know you had depression and anxiety, too. I am thankful for you and the gifts and talents God has given you and that you share with us. You have taught me so many techniques I have yet to try, but I used to do needlework and hope to do this. I liked hearing Lila's sweet little voice at the end. Hugs!

Thank you for your openness regarding depression. I have chronic illness and it is easy for me to go down the path towards depression. I’ve found the best way to love and encouragement myself is through serving, praying for and encouraging others. Often times it means My only way of encouraging them is through a card. And they love snail mail! Thank you for helping me love others and thereby love myself. Your videos are so full of fresh ideas. Thank you for your kindness. Thank Lila for her sweet message at the end!

Jennifer, thank you for being open and thoughtful, even as you go through your own personal journey. It all take time. Especially, to get used to a new normal. I haven't worked on any stitch work in years. Thanks for bringing back great memories I have of learning stitches with my mom. Who passed away 5yrs ago. I think I'll be adding some stitches to cards in her memory. Take care. Keep sharing. It's a joy to hear Lila.

I wish I could send you a big hug. Cardmaking has helped me with both depression and chronic serious pain. I learned stamping while laying in bed and make my cards this way, watching tutorial by you, Kristina and Gina ♥ You all and others have helped pull me through - thank you! I love your cards and designs using stitching. I am amazed you can fight through depression and create tons of projects, meet deadlines, and care for your family! Please accept our most sincere sympathy for the loss of your dear one. With aloha ♥

Im sorry for your loss. I wholeheartedly agree with you about crafting. I got injured on the job in 2002, the operating table broke and I helped the patient from falling off the table. I herniated thoracically and had surgery. I had rods, cages and screws placed at T6-7, T7-8 and T12- L1. Since then making cards has helped me cope with the pain. When I can't sleep, watching your videos helps me get my pain under control. Thank you for teaching and helping me. God bless you!

Both card making & crafts are very therapeutic to me. Also cross- stitching. I cross-stitched like a maniac for about 20 years. I still love it as it is so relaxing & calming. I, too have chronic depression & making a card for someone really helps. I agree with you about things like that, when l can pull myself out of a funk. It's so hard sometimes but l do it for my own health. I've always said crafting, etc. keeps me sane, in a joking way but there is so much truth in that statement. My husband cracks, "you better start crafting more " which always makes me chuckle. I'm happy when doing some sort of creating, & he has never complained about what l spend or what l do around the house. I have to be my own boss to be sure things do get done, or how much money l spend. We've been married 50 years so l guess we make things work. I'm going to try stitching on cards, like you suggested. I don't know why l haven't thought to do it. I, too like the pearl cotton thread because it has a sheen to it. Anyway, thanks for this video.
I am so sorry for your loss, so please know that l'm thinking & praying for you & your sweet family.🤗🤗🤗❤️❤️❤️Big hugs...

+Jennifer McGuire Ink ...Jennifer, 1st of all....these cards are absolutely amazing and I'm SO glad that you shared these simple stitching techniques. I have done cross stitch and needlepoint in past years....and still have all my floss and lots of Aida cloth. I am definitely going to give this technique a try! I love the look! I also inherited, from my paternal grandmother, some special floss and cloth for doing the amazing Hardanger embroidery work...and that's one type of needle craft I would love to learn! Might have to go back to the country of my paternal grandpa (Norway) to learn how to do it. Thank you, also, for sharing your heart in this video! Wow! Goes to show that we don't understand the struggles that others are facing. I read through most of the comments below mine....and I was amazed at how many have shared their own struggle with depression. I have also struggled with anxiety and severe depression in the past 2-3 years....however, (hopefully) for me, it will fade away as I rise above the root cause of it (which was a toxic thankless work environment). Fortunately for me...I was able to retire...and now hopefully can move on. Crafting....in general...is my happy place to be! Just being able to create something with my hands brings so much joy...and like you and others have said...it is very therapeutic! I'm so sorry to hear about your family's loss. It's times like this that can make us have a greater struggle. It was sweet to hear Lila's voice at the end of your video. Take care Jennifer.....and I look forward to watching more of your amazing videos!! You truly are a brilliant and gifted crafter!! Sending cyber hugs to you....

I am so glad that you can be open about your struggles when everyone thinks you are so perfect. Your work is so perfect and I know how your perfectionist OCD mind drives you crazy with the way people are so quick to judge. We are so hard on ourselves. We don’t need any help with that from anyone else. Believe me. I have an entire room of my own in my mind that is dedicated to those crazy thoughts. I will tell you this, coming back into paper crafting and sharing and learning from this fabulous community has helped bring me from some really dark places into the light. You are most certainly are a part of that. I might not be able to recreate your work but that is not what this is about. Just keep doing what you are doing. It costs nothing to give. Everyone should do it more often. 🙏

Hi Jennifer, so sorry to hear that you've had someone pass away. Good for you for talking about what most people think is a taboo subject. I'm glad to see more people discussing it and getting major play on TV as the Royal are now speaking out about mental health issues after Princess Diana passed away. I too have struggled with depression off and on over the last 15 years, I put my son into foster care when he was 14, and the next 5 years were a battle, him not wanting to talk to me, being absolutely disrespectful etc. I tried to commit suicide after that. I took it so all personally but not anymore. He is coming up to my house for Christmas this year (haven't seen him for two years) and although we've talked, it has been a long rocky 5 years but we are on to bigger and better things. You are not along Jennifer and I thank you and Crafty Little Pill for bringing it to the audiences of the crafting world. Just know you are never alone!

Sorry for your struggle with your son. I don't know your situation but I can tell you teenage years with either a boy or a girl are soooo hard! Thanks so much for your kind words, my son had a condition call Congenital Adrenal Hyperplasia, essentially an over active adrenal gland. He started developing when he was 7 years old so we were dealing with 16 year old hormones at 10 years old, he was 6 feet tall, 200 lbs and in size 14 shoes at the age of 10, I wish I could have been stronger but after 4 years I was broken. He asked me yesterday what I wanted for Christmas and I told him I just wanted to be able to see him and give him a hug! A struggle for sure but we made out the other end!

Thank you for sharing how stamping and crafting helps you emotionally and physically. I got back into crafting after having a type of stoke and almost died. someone gave me an adult coloring book from the hospital gift shop. I suffered from lost of use in my hands and coloring made recovery quicker. Also I've always struggled With anxiety disorder. So now when I'm feel anxiety creeping in on me I head to my craft room. It works so much better than Medication. about 15 years ago I was really into stamping but I got caught up with other things and it seems like stamping went out of style. But I'm glad it is a booming business again Thank God I kept all my stamp and craft items from 15 years ago. Even though all my old stamps are wood mounted, I have at least 1500 of them or more. And there were no Die cut machines. I cut everything by hand, so I am enjoying all the new advances in the craft industry. I will try your stitching technique. I spend a lot if time in doctor's waiting rooms and this would be a perfect project to keep me calm and pass the time at the same time making something beautiful. Thank you so much for everything you shared. It does help to know we are not alone. Bless you. Joyce Costa

Joyce Costa you can make wonderful things with your wood stamps. They will make them and lots of people just love their wood stamps. So your stuff is just as great today. I also have lots of stamps from back then too.
The scan n cut machine they have put these days can cut all those stamped images out for you if you can not handle fussy cutting them
      By hand also.

So sorry for your loss Jennifer. I've been a HUGE fan and been following you since way back to the days of 2Peas in a Bucket, and took a few of your classes at a CKU many years ago. You are my ABSOLUTE FAVORITE card maker because NO ONE comes up with such unique, fun, and just simply amazing ideas like you do. These cards today, especially the one with the cat & dog, are some of my favorites you've ever done. They are all so beautiful and so adorable I can't even stand it! Each one got better and better and I'll definitely be ordering a few of the stamp sets that you used.
I've also suffered from depression for most of my life. I also suffer from chronic pain 24/7 from several issues including Fibromyalgia, lipid myopathy, and severe tendinitis in multiple parts of my body. I'm a cross stitcher too and I make jewelry and of course card making/scrapbooking. Thank you for your continuous inspiration!

I'm so sorry for your loss. I, too, suffer from depression. I have a great psychologist and am on meds to control it, but when disaster strikes, I still struggle. Right now, I am going through one of the things parents fear most and I am barely hanging on. Crafting is definitely my only solace. I especially enjoy making cards, but sometimes the depression is too much for me to even do that. Watching you, Jennifer, make your wonderful cards, inspires me to fight through the darkness and go to my craft space to create. And for that, I thank you. If I could, I'd send you a thank you card. Lol. God bless you and your family. Xxoo

So nice to hear sweet Lila's voice at the end!! She sounds so much more grown up than the last time I heard her in one of your videos. (I hope you're having a great day too, Lila!) These cards are beautiful Jennifer and I love the addition of stitching here and there. The Pink Fresh Studio stamps and dies are amazing...love the cut out look on the card fronts. That unicorn is beautiful (did Lila "steal" that one because I know my faux granddaughter Alex would have!!) and the stitching on "her" is gorgeous. Funny how your sweater matched the Sweet Corn ink in the beginning of the video....lol. (I'm easily amused!) I used to do a lot of cross-stitching before I had kids and since you shared another stitching video I'm back to trying that again. Most importantly is the message you've shared about how important it is to speak up about depression and not hide away like they did in the "old" days. Since my accident left me 70% disabled almost 6 years ago I've been dealing with depression and I have to admit that although it hasn't been a fun ride, speaking up and getting support is key. Thank you for sharing so much of yourself with so many of us because depression knows no boundaries and it can happen to any of us. Thank you for being the beautiful person you are, both inside and out, and for speaking up. You just never know when it will make a difference in someone's life. ~BIG HUGS~

Always appreciate your opening welcome greeting -- I'm glad to be here watching!! Just what I needed to hear (your uplifting comments) and what I loved seeing -- you're so right -- the smallest and simple things really dress up any project! Now I need to decide which of my stamps would come alive with the added stitching. THANKS, JENNIFER.

My crafting is my life saver, as I have secondary breast cancer. I feel I have achieved something when I have made a card especially when it is specially made for someone directly. I love your cards Jennifer, I love the simple embellishments you add to them to make them look different and individual. This sewing technique is something that I will certainly try with my cards in the future as I have plenty of embroidery threads in my stash.

Before the tutorial started I saw the advertisement of lots of girls showing their Samsung phones and saying "I am a smart girl". They were all well known Spanish actresses (because I am watching you from Spain) pretending to be smart because they have this trendy phone... when this ad ended, and you started talking, I immediately thought... now this is a truly Smart girl... and she doesn't need a fancy phone to prove it! We all now you are the Smart one!

When I was diagnosed with stage four metastatic breast cancer I lost my career which meant everything to me. I started watching card making videos, including yours. Before long I was making cards too. Thank you so much for your inspiration and can do attitude. You are not alone. We are all a community just getting by the best we can. Love you Jennifer!

Beautiful and creative work, as always! Also, thank you for your great courage in opening up and sharing about your depression and anxiety struggles. Sharing our struggles helps us know we are not alone, and helps people to have the courage to ask for help. Brene Brown, the vulnerability researcher of TED talk fame, says that unused creativity is toxic, so get out your paint, stamps, thread, yarn, markers and such and let your creativity flow, relax, have some fun.....find joy, and share. Again, thanks, Jennifer, for sharing your art and your heart.

I love the cards that you have bought stitching to, they are so individual the recipient will know you really send it with care & love, loving the unicorn the most.x

I viewed the videos in Amanda's blog hop....and her story is courageous, powerful, and inspiring! I think many of us card-makers "lose" ourselves in our craftrooms, zoning out into our card-making.....very therapeutic! I'm with you on Gina K inks....just wonderful! Our sympathies for the loss of your family member. TFS this lovely technique.

Gorgeous! I love that you shared what helps you feel better. I find colouring, painting, stitching - well, all crafting! - so helpful when I’m stressed or feeling down. Getting super creative is great, but if you are not feeling it, colouring someone else’s design really helps too. :)

I’m sorry for your loss. Thank you for sharing your story (and your cards, of course). I struggle with depression, too. Like you, I find comfort in knowing that I’m not alone. I don’t want to do much of anything when I’m depressed, but I think I’ll try following your example and find something simple and creative to see if it lifts my mood.

Jennifer this so touched my heart. I'm so sorry for your loss. I suffered the loss of both my card making buddies, my mom and great aunt, early last year. Getting back to making cards has been my therapy. My mom was the stamper while my aunt and I stitched and beaded and pergamanoed. your technique marries the two and I love it. Bless you for sharing.
