Once the game leaves opening theory, it's brain v. brain. No one beats Magnus at Brain Vs. Brain. That's why is strategy going forward will be to get into brain v. brain as quickly as possible.

Stockfish used to do that insane rook pawn opening followed by the exchange sacrifice, and won.
It's actually a forced opening, i mean they force the engines to play certain moves in the opening otherwise they repeat the same opening every time

I think Magnus is bored with no real competition, so he does silly sacrifices at the beginning so that he gets a proper challenge

An opening that is used by novices and people learning to play the game.
People usually stop using it, when they are taught to fight for mid, and how to count squares.
It's very uncommon in higher ranked chess.
It's really just a sign of major disrespect for his opponent .
I don't find it shocking at all. It's totally in line with his personality to play this against lower ranked opponents.
I've never seen it.

Wait, so if a player uses the same open or sequence of moves over and over, he is cheating? Wtf is going on in the world of chess?
Sorry, but if a player consistently moves pieces when he shouldn’t, illegal moves, etc that would be cheating. If the same opening move or sequence gets you wins because your opponent can’t see it coming, how is that cheating?
You really need to learn how to say "fianchetto" in Italian.
