    I absolutely love Robin Hood! He was the first character I played and lost as and from that time till now whenever I play him my game group gets scared! Lol 🤣. He is one of the most intelligent fighters in the game, and you said it best: unlike other fights, robin can't block his way out of danger, he has to outsmart his opponent and maneuver his way around the board to evade attackers and strike unexpectedly.
    I also find the way he draws cards to be very thematic. It's like loading up your quiver with arrows.
    Draw the enemy in with a weak attack- then pummel them if they can't block you with a 5 attack. The patience you employ with Robin pays dividends and it's so gratifying when you win against heavy hitters like bigfoot, little red or the raptors.
    Great break down.

      Yes! RH is super “intelligent” and I love how different he is from most other teams! Thank you for the compliment!

    If one only looks at card values, Robin Hood is not particularly strong. But he can win through evasion, positioning, and sheer pressure. With his hero ability, blocking outlaws and high card draw, he can sustain 2 attacks almost every round and keep away from the opponent. This whittles the enemy defense down, letting Robin land undefended attacks. “Steal from the Rich” is good for a boost move to either keep the pressure up on a fleeing enemy or flee yourself. He also has great card art! He is one of my favorites, just don’t let the enemy catch you 😉

      I 100 percent agree. He is more than the card values.

    Random disarming shot fact: it does not specify the kind of damage needed to draw cards. This means that if the opponent defended with a card that damages them such as good enough for us or a card which draws cards and makes them take fatigue damage still counts and allows you to draw cards.

    There’s definitely a situation where the “steal from the rich” card could be used very effectively. IF your in battle and your opponent is low on cards, but is saving the few great cards they have (like game ending cards) then it becomes a big deal weather to discard great cards or give you the card advantage. I mean you could try and save 2 or 3 of them till later in the game and it definitely could hurt characters who rely on time to build up there deck. Love the videos, keep it up 👍👍👍

    • @BakedGoods
      @BakedGoods  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Often times Robin doesn’t need the extra draws from this card and it ends up as a maneuver booster for me
      I should have mentioned how easy it can be to enter Fatigue as Robin in this video, and sometimes NOT playing this card helps you avoid emptying your deck

    Nice overview! I guess it’s hard to keep updated, but it’d be neat to see a possible counters section (or a counters video?)
    Who counters Robin? I can see Sinbad being good as those hits will add up, Yennenga and Bigfoot are close games, anyone else? Drac?

    • @BakedGoods
      @BakedGoods  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I could make a video highlighting a spreadsheet of bad matchups, but that’d be no fun 😉
      Thinking about matchups, how they work, the advantages each side has and how specific card effects or abilities would interact is such a fun exercise, especially to do with some friends.
      So let’s do one right now for Mr Robin Hood.
      Strengths: ranged, mobile, tons of card draw, multiple sidekicks, decently powerful attacks/mindgames
      Weaknesses: low block values, low health, sidekicks have 1 hp
      Heroes that do good into RH should be able to capitalize on his weaknesses while minimizing his strengths.
      Buffy is the best candidate I think, because she has 1) tons of AoE damage to kill of sidekicks, 2) decent firepower to hit over Robin’s defenses and 3) card draw to match Robin’s. Xander > Giles here btw.
      Other potential favorable matchups include:
      Sinbad is also decent since he can hit big and is mobile enough to catch Robin despite his range and ability.
      Bigfoot can hit really hard over Robin’s blocks, potential matching card draw, has Savagery for AoE damage and has extra cancels for Highway Robbery.
      Alice also has great card draw, hits huge over Robin’s puny blocks and has a beefy sidekick that Robin will have to commit a lot of resources to kill.
      Some less ideal matchups are:
      Drac has potential due to a potential massive Beastform and Prey Upon AoE damage, but might not have enough blocks to sustain Robin’s aggression.
      IM has enough damage from schemes and Surprise Attacks to whittle away Robin’s health but gets wrecked by no feints for Robberies and Ambush.
      Bruce Lee can deal with the Outlaws with One Inch Punch and combo Robin due to his lack of after combat move effects, but doesn’t have a lot of health to work with.
      Just some ideas, obviously not an exhaustive list, but this is a hard example since Robin is a very solid fighter who has a pretty broad yet powerful kit, and doesn’t have too many horrible matchups.
      That may change in the near future tho, as a lot of Marvel characters have ways to easily deal with 1 hp sidekicks...
      Anyways the moral of the story is analyzing matchups is fun, counters are (usually) not definitive, there are advantages for both sides and generally the person who plays better wins close games.
      Stay tuned for my Meta Monday series as I’ll talk a lot about matchups and stuff like this in those videos.

    • @nicksims2827
      @nicksims2827 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@BakedGoods Yeah I know talking through a spreadsheet isn’t normally fun, but if anyone can make it entertaining… 😀
      Good shout on Buffy - I love her and think she’s gone back to being an under appreciated character after her brief craze at the start of the last tournament.
      Sinbad’s good too - I _finally_ lifted my Robin curse (never win with him; always lose against him) with Sinbad in WoC last night.
      It feels like his ability gives him a real advantage over other ranged fighters too, so melee’s generally the way to go?
      The first meta Monday was really good, looking forward to more

    • @BakedGoods
      @BakedGoods  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@nicksims2827 against RH, range/melee isn’t a clear cut distinction because both types will have a disadvantage, it’s moreso about 1) how easily can your hero catch him and 2) how much damage can you inflict when you do

    when does robin hood's ability take place? is it during the after combat part taking place along side card effects or is it after all card effects have finished and cards played were discarded?

      There does not need to be a defeated outlaw, if so you just draw 1 card and do nothing else

      And does invisible man get one defense when on a fog token?

    • @BakedGoods
      @BakedGoods  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Short answer: No
      Long answer: ‘Highway Robbery ignores the value of the card, so it doesn't matter if it's getting a +1 from her ability’, as the value altogether is ignored.
      Quoted from Justin the game designer!
      Same goes for Invisible Man, no +1 bonus!

    I wonder what the upper limit of sidekicks will be. Why stop at 4?

    • @BakedGoods
      @BakedGoods  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Probably not more than 4 or 5
      It can be challenging to position so many fighters each time you maneuver, and some decks don't have enough firepower/attacks to chew through so many different fighters
      I'd imagine a hero with 5 sidekicks would have very low health and very few block cards
