  • If you refill the 1 pound cylinders, you can save a lot of money this way. The adapter cost about $10 and you can fill up your smaller propane tanks with your larger propane tank. Pretty convenient.

    They are made to be refilled, but on scales as they can be overfilled, should only fill up to 80% of total weight to allow for heat expansion.

      They are disposable cylinder they are not meant to be refilled. If they were they would have a bleeder valve at the top for filling purposes like the Primus cylinders. It's actually Illegal to refill them in Australia. (But some do.)

    You didn't mention lubricating the O-Ring on the adapter fitting with some spit or water. No doing so rips the surface of the O-Ring as it is tightened and the fitting turns a bit.

    Love this video a lot. Couldnt you attach the small bottle as you did here and tilt the whole thing to put a 45 degree angle on the small bot to fill more liquid? Put the inverted large bottle on the edge of the table and tilt while refilling? Great post

    Putting the empty canisters in the freezer for a couple of hours before refilling helps to get a fuller refill. I always weigh the empty bottle first then again after they're refilled to get an accurate 14 oz. fill weight.

    All components need to be as cold as possible. This will help keep the liquid from boiling, and you will get more liquid.

    I have used the adapter many times. It seems like it only refills the smaller tanks about half of what they are when you buy them. I have a Mr Buddy heater that uses the 1 pound tanks, and it runs about half as long on refills as it does on new tanks.

      That is because in this video he did not show you how to bleed the air out of the tank. Look for another video.

      You need to bleed the air out of them, then top them off. But check them on a scale to avoid over filling them.

      We used to keep our empties in the freezer then fill immediately after pulling them out in the summer.

    You forgot about mentioning to put the donor bottle in the freezer for 30min prior to filling, otherwise you'll only fill the bottle up to about 70%....

      ​@@x189philthethrill No, if you put the small 1lb bottles in the freezer before filling them you'll be able to fill them up more than if they're warm or room temperature.

      Just purge the air out a couple of times. Stop filling the small tank and let air out by pushing in on the valve on the little tank. Let the air out (about 4-6 pushes not a constant hold) and then put back on to fill

    Yeah cool, but I'm over here in Norway see and I use the 1lb/400 grams canisters you showed first and they really don't want us to refill them. They look exactly the same as yours. Sold all over Europe. The brand is Sievert. A swedish company. However, the canisters is manufactured by the Worthington Cylinder Corporation, Columbus OHIO, not Sweden. So the same as yours probably. They really don't want us to refill them. There's stickers all over them saying DO NOT REFILL. In no fewer than 11 languages. ELEVEN. Including not swedish.
    So anyways. They cost about $5 in your area? FIVE DALLAH! Over here they cost $30-50. $Not swedish.
    I wonder why they don't want us to refill them.

      I would say the reamining MAPP gas was the problem asi it wouldn't liquify as easily under pressure as propane will. In this case I would try to refill it and empty it few times until the MAPP gas is no longer there (or its concentration is low). And also freeze it before refilling as Fultz Fab.. suggested

      @@deetesmin hi, how did you remove the anti-fill valve? I have a 400gr propane tank but have had no luck refilling it. I’m in the EU so I think there is some kind of anti-fill measure in place. TIA.

      @@Equinoxious342 if I remember correctly, there's a Schrader type vavle and below that there's a check valve. Remove the Schrader valve and punch out the check valve.
      I'm sure there's a video on TH-cam about this
