  • Dobermans are a different kind of dog and their owners...well, they can be a little different too! This video will give newcomers to this breed a hilarious (but true) window into the realities of living with one of the most strangely unique dog breeds in the world. If you already own a Doberman, see how much you can relate to these truths about living with this breed and share this video with other Doberman owners so they know they aren't alone with what they deal with! This is a different kind of video than normal this week. It's good to have a little fun and laugh sometimes! :-)
    As most Doberman owners know all too well, not every dog product works well for this unique breed. That's why I maintain a list of the best products I've found so far for Dobermans.

    You failed to mention Dobermans don’t just make eye contact but they are able to stare thru your soul and know exactly what you are thinking! 😬. A truly remarkable breed.

      got a Border Collie, and that's their master trait, they do not have the imposing figure of a Doberman, but they're even more determined and precise with their stare... I mean it's a world reknown skill of the breed. Actually some of these doberman behaviours are just a symptom of most smart breeds in general. Doberman is in the top 5, and probably the strongest of the top 5 most intelligent breeds, so it really make sense that their zoomies and crazyness gets scaled up.
      But yeah all of the mentioned rules could very well apply to a Border Collie, except the whole being protective thing, which Loki is, cause has a bit of setter (hunting dog), even tho both his parents were border collie. My dog is super nice, has never ever growled once in almost 3 years now, but he unsettles other dogs with his body language, cause he greets with a pointing stance (like a hunter) and stare, but when the other dog approaches, he gets in the wolf stalking position (very border collie), and it creeps the hell out of even the biggest dogs, they start barking at him as if some wolf was going to pounce on them, but Loki just wants to play, has never attacked other dog. Cat on the other hand like him, cause he's used to them, so he either ignores them or greets them very softly, he's very gentle.
      All of this is just cause i initially tried getting a Doberman, but the person that had them never responded, so i settled for a border collie, and it was for the best... Not saying either breed is better, what i mean is... I chose Loki simply because, not because he was a Border Collie... I´m trying to say that all dogs can be great, buts it's perfectly understandable that some of us would prefer more challenging dogs, cause that challenge is just a product of their intelligence, and Doberman are very very smart.

    I’ve had dobermans in my family for 53 years and have personally been owned by dobes for 36 years. You nailed it. It’s funny because until I found your channel, I didn’t realize these were special things about dobes compared to other dogs because I didn’t know how other dogs acted. I’m definitely not a dog person but I am 100% a dobe person. I wouldn’t want any other breed. They are so much fun to have.

    I have two Doberman pups, 4 months old. Life has changed for my husband and I in the best way. This is all so true about this dog/ child like creatures we have. 20 years ago I had a Doberman when my children were young and at home and yes it was just like having another kid in the house. I had four boys and one red girl. A few months ago we decided it was time for another Doberman. I’m not sure what we were/ were not thinking when getting two pups at once but now I have double the love, I’m never alone and a clean quiet house is not a thing around here but I do love every moment of it.

      We got two pups from the same litter too, two boys! No idea either we were thinking. It’s been a joyful and very challenging time, especially after they got five to six months. We’re hoping they’ll be more calm and mature soon. Btw, they’ll turn six in May 🤣
      Wish you a happy and long life with your furry and human family.

    • @sheilagilleland4312

      I think boys are way more challenging than girls in the Doberman pups, my male is more energetic and rambunctious, my little female is sweet and mean🤣 well you get the picture. One minute she’s so dang sweet and the next minute Jazz has one of “her” toys and she tears him up. Poor Jazz, 😳he does it to get her worked up. I have the privilege of getting to stay home with them several days a week and they consume my every minute. I put them down for a nap and just like I did when the kids were little I run around the house picking toys up sweeping up dog food crumbs and mopping up water slobbers. We have ten acres of land they run and play on, a nice size pond and two Labrador retrievers that the Doberman love to aggravate. My pups stay worn out most of the time, I find the more room they have to play on the better they are. Good luck with your two pups and Remember, this to shall pass ! 😂

    @eddavanleemputten9232 2 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    100% accurate.
    For my last Dobermann, it wasn’t socks… it was underwear. We ended up stashing the used underwear right in the washer and the clean underwear in a bow on top of the cupboard. Shoes were highly desirable until she was around 2 years of age and she’d totally destroy the heels… and then fall asleep with her nose stuffed into the toe of the shoe. Always mine.
    If you didn’t properly say goodbye before leaving the house, the last person leaving would find something of his/hers destroyed.
    In the car she’d have a doggy safety belt. She’d sit with her head on my shoulder (that grew into the command “rest your head” during the entire drive. Only exception: when the baby got fussy. Velcro Dog would turn into Surrogate Mama in a millisecond and be laser-focused on comforting the baby.
    Going to the bathroom was always a shared event. A bath meant being stared at the entire time. Reading was ALWAYS a one-handed affair because the other hand was hers. Unless she was occupied with my daughter who, frankly, was hers in her eyes. She’d help my daughter ‘escape’ from her playpen and I lost count of the times I found my baby sleeping in the doggy bed, tangled up in Dobie paws. When my daughter reached her Terrible Twos, telling one off meant two sulking creatures: one furry, the other with golden angel curls.
    Oh, and a Dobermann can open anything. Mine had a great love for dill pickles. She’d screw open the jar.
    Even though I love my American Staffordshire Terrier (who was raised by my Dobermann and shares so many of her traits) I miss my girl.
    Dobermanns are true velcro dogs. They’re addictive and addicted to your touch. They’re the biggest snugglebugs on Earth. They’re the derpiest dogs on the planet. As soon as I have the funds and room, another Dobermann is joining the family. I work from home 4 days out of 5 so they’re the perfect dog for me.

      This funnily enough reads like you described my old German shepand my current dachshunds it must be a German dog thing too. My née doberman comes to her forever home in 2 weeks time she is a rare colour she is an isobella. Mum and dad are 2 of the biggest doberman I've ever met and are perfect specimines of the bread they are my breader friends dogs it's taken me the best part of 6 weeks to be able to walk in the house without being faced with teeth and growls lol. Now I get kisses and cuddles unless I tell the female off she growls at me she doesn't like it when I tell her off cause I'm not her mum but once her stroppy mood is over she all sorrycand playful again 🤣. Such an amazing bread and I can't wait for my young children to grown up with such a dog. I had an English bull terrier previously and she was my absolutely world qwerky odd bread and very unique but amazing at the same time I just can't wait for my doberman to meet our pack oat our house she's met me dogs but not my 3 cats lol good job she currently lives with a pack of 12 which include doberman Boston terriers and a French bull dog plus 3 cats haha. I don't think she is likely to ever boss my bungalow cat around though he well and truly rules my house cleans all animals and puts them all to bed without a back chat in sight 😂😂

Got out and pulled the blankets and pillows off the couches, laundry out of the laundry basket, got into my closet and pulled 3 jackets down, scattered my shoes across the house(didn't touch my spouse's shoes), dumped his dog food but didn't eat it.... John, this is just a suggestion for a potential video(s). I've had 5 dobies and each has had a significant health issue that happened when they were a little older. I wished each time that I had begun training them as a puppy to do things like walk up a ramp, walk and learn to do their business with a special lifting harness when they have hip/leg issues (mine now is 9 and she's catching on, but it's hard to do when they're sick). There are so many possible things ppl don't consider, like lifting an 80 lb. injured dog into a car to go to a vet, etc. Plz consider this. It may even let ppl see red flags when their dobies have some health issues before they get into serious trouble. Thx, love your program and your techniques and your personality. You gotta be a perfect dobie parent.

    G’day John. Just want to say thanks for all your videos from down here in Oz. I really appreciate the fact that you’ve taken the time to reply to quite a few of my messages over the last few years. Sadly my dobie died a few weeks ago, on a cold winters night in my arms in front of the fireplace, warm and comfortable on a sheepskin rug and surrounded by the humans he loved. It was just me and him during the months and months of Covid lockdown we had here in Melbourne and I’m grateful for every minute we had together. Jeez, I’m actually getting pretty emotional while writing this.
    Was wondering if you or any of your subscribers could recommend a reputable breeder in the USA or elsewhere. Im thinking I might try the European working line this time around but a dobie is a giant bundle of goofy love and I’d love to import a couple of pups to Oz sometime sooner rather than later. We do have some quarantine requirements but if anyone, including yourself could point me in the right direction I’d greatly appreciate it.
    Thank you once again for such a great channel.

    John everything you tell us about the doberman breed is spot on.. I am lucky to own a European male called Zeus he turned one last Friday. .I have a Boxer bitch also . Surprisingly they share many traits mentioned in the list. I couldn't choose between them they are both incredible breeds.
    I am eternally grateful for all your shared knowledge and experience with a growing doberman.... it's been extremely helpful and lots of fun. 😁👍

    I am lucky - my girl definitely isn’t a morning person and she usually let me sleep. Quite the opposite, when I had to get up earlier than usually she would usually do the best to try and ignore me or give me a reproachful look before burrowing further into the bed.

    I had a fawn Dobe a handful of years back and you talk about scary eye contact.. With her lighter colored eyes that looked more like leopard eyes, her eye contact was far on the psychotic end of the oh s*it-o-meter. She was my dog and the rest of the family to her was ya know, just there LOL But I swear to God when that dog looked at me sometimes it made my blood run cold and never ever had even close to that feeling from another dogs gaze before or after her. I wish I could post a picture here because everything that dog looked at, she looked like she always was just debating if she wanted to end its existence knowing she could LOL She was a bit of a b*tch to most people but she was MY sweetheart and love bug and I miss her and her disturbing, unsettling eye contact very much :(

    • @TSeeker1
      @TSeeker1 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wow, you just described my Sophie! She was sharp, crazy protective and equally hilarious! Her beautiful, intense gold eyes - at 6 weeks old I chose her out of 9 puppies, simply because of her piercing gaze into my soul. Plus, she was so calm and cool, unlike the others. She marched to her own beat. My husband used to say he didn't know where she began and I ended; she was exactly like me! The companion of a lifetime. I didn't even see her as a dog, she was my daughter. It's been 13 years, and I'll never fully recover from losing her.

    I had a deposit on a puppy to be born at the end of this month but the mom became ill and lost the litter. I'll tell ya it's an extreme pain to find breeders that are reputable. Also we wanted a puppy in May or June which was the perfect timetable for us which makes it even more difficult. On top of that we're looking at red only. Finally found one but pickup is mid April. Anyways wanted to say THANKS for channel. There is truly information overload on TH-cam but your channel is our go to.

    Yes! All this, except mine are red blurs! My boy Tony is 2 now, and he likes to nibble ears. That’s a new thing to me. Now my girl, Ziva, if she needs out at night, she stands next to my bed and makes noises that sound almost like a cow… little short grunts that get louder until I hear her. We call it mooing. She moos until I wake to let her outside. She’s 4, I guess she’s past the poking stage. 😁
