  • The Big Ten is expanding with the addition of USC, UCLA, Oregon, and Washington. On Late Kick Live Ep 481 Josh Pate ranked all 18 programs using a rolling 3-year blended set of criteria including on-field performance, talent acquisition, resource pool, and stability. With Ohio State and Michigan atop the Big Ten, is there another team joining the top tier? How do the next tiers shake out? Has Luke Fickell gotten Wisconsin fully back? Where do programs like Iowa and Penn State stack up? Could a turnaround be in the cards for Nebraska? I'd put Washington ahead of USC.....and after this year Wisconsin may be tops of Tier 3.......it will be interesting to see what the Penn State versus anOSU game this year will be like? IT SHOULD be THE White Out!!! Can we burn The Fox Sports SUCKS Network down if they make that a noon game?!! White Outs are ALWAYS NIGHT GAMES!!
Penn State is Unrivaled!! (The ONLY B1G school without a "protected" rival game...SO...the PROTECTED Rival Game is...THE GREATEST SPORTING EVENT in the WORLD!!!...THE White Out!! Glad Rutgers wasn't in the last tier. Steady progression with Schiano as always. Removal of leagues will help us. At the very least, it will not benefit the West teams who had it easy.

@XCodes not saying it isn't easy but 3 Auto loses is never a good thing. And I supposed that given any year in the past 5 no one in the west would trade schedules with Rutgers, Maryland. I sure wouldn't. Remember if you trade places with Michigan St, you don't play Michigan St.
So if your Wisconsin, your schedule is
Michigan, PennS, OhioS, Rutgers, Indiana and Maryland
      Vs
Minnesota, Purdue, Northwestern, Illinois, Nebraska, Iowa
For 2024 everyone was making fun of rutgers because they were still playing everyone in the East plus USC if I remember correctly. Then Wash and Oregon came in.. Somehow we missed OSU, UM and PennS.... and everyone is saying how we got lucky and have the easiest schedule.

Pretty good assessment imo. I would probably switch Oregon and the team up north. That is not an indictment against TTUN. Their onfield results and player development speak for themselves. Just when comparing their coaching attrition to Oregon's trajectory, I would have Oregon at 2 right now. As Pate uses a three-year scale, this raking could look very different next year. We will have to see how TTUN adjusts. I think Moore as HC reduces a lot of the transition burden one would have had had they promoted from outside their organization, but on the other hand, their schedule is not easy in 2024. This will be one of the most interesting things to see next season.

Good list / But Wisconsin should be tier 3. Their winning percentage and record over the last 25 years is top ten for all college programs. They have a winning bowl record over that time - unlike Penn State and Iowa. Yeah they were down the last few years, But have been consistently more competitive than Penn State / USC / Washington and Iowa for some time. They also hold the current NCAA record for most consecutive seasons with bowl eligibility. Not saying they should be above Penn State or USC.. or even Washington historically. Either the same or their own tier - And no way are they a Tier below Iowa. Thats just not right. Otherwise the list is fantastic.

Even with the possibility of Chip Kelly leaving UCLA I don't think that Purdue or Minnesota have been better programs over the last 3 years or currently are better progams than UCLA. Both Purdue and Minnesota have benefited greatly from being in the B1G west and I think their overall records are going to take a hit with the addition of the PAC-12 teams along with not being able to hide behind divisions to avoid playing the B1G's three headed monster of Michigan, OSU, PSU. Minnesota seems to be regressing after PJ Fleck initially was able to breath new life into the program and Purdue lossing Jeff Brohm I think is a much bigger blow to their program than UCLA lossing Chip Kelly.
