If you have bad credit try and get a cosigner if possible (this isn't a must but will help you get a better deal as far as required downpayment and lower monthly payments etc).......

Saying that the car would be sold in a couple of hours is just to put pressure on you to buy now and limit your chance to negotiate a better deal and talk to other dealerships. It’s a dealer tactic that you should never fall into, a trap that dealers always do so that you don’t find another dealer or go elsewhere. It is a better solution to continue shopping to different dealers to find the best deal. they can always find a car you want with the equipment you want and the color you want and get it delivered don’t fall into that trap, especially when it is a new car.

I got my first car that wasn't my parents the beginning of march. Saved for probably a year and a half, my grandma helped me pay for about half of it and here I am with no payments and I am very grateful I was able to do that without taking out a loan:)
My mom does financing for the local dealerships and she said to NOT tell the dealers you have a down payment until the financing process is almost done. Also, definitely research (if you can) how the dealerships treat those they use for financing loans because that will play a big part in how your loan is dealt with!
@@chrissychanel5837 I do not agree with this because if you don’t have good credit you need to put more down so therefore you do have to tell the financing managers how much you have to put down on the car you want due to your credit so every person circumstance is different if you have good credit then you could probably get away with not telling them how much you wanna put down but if you really wanna car and don’t have good credit score but you have a down payment it’s best if you tell them how much you’re willing to put down
A little advice from someone going through the used car buying process with their parents who have purchased many cars in the past. Kelly Blue Book is a great resource for researching information, but they have many ties to car dealerships (which has been documented) and often make the price range for cars inflated. Make sure to look around and really research and go in with what you you can pay and believe the vehicle to be worth and don't sway from that! You can always walk out of a dealership (you're never stuck), there will ALWAYS be another car, and you can always cave and go back if you have looked around and maybe have been offering too low of a price for the car you're looking for. You are the buyer and you're in control! (also! car dealerships will always try to get you to "act fast" because their cars are selling "so quickly" this is another gimmick to try and get you to buy ASAP. Again, there will ALWAYS be another car (if you're looking for something common like a Honda Civic or CR-V. Don't fall into any dealership tricks).

Once they lock the interest rate , that’s when you tell them how much you will be putting down. ( they can’t unlock the interest rate ) 😁

I feel like this is also important to add that people don't consider too much is just because you can afford the payments of the car, does not mean you can afford the car. While a car payment can significantly help your credit it can and will destroy any positive credit if the payments are not made on time or payments are skipped.

There's a lot of tips that you can find online that will give you an idea on how to chip away the price of a new car from a dealer (like buying at the end of the month, or the end of the year, when they have to meet a sales quota and are more willing to drop the prices). That's kind of in the weeds, though. I think a really good suggestion that everyone should do (even if you're financing a used car) is to get pre-approved for a loan before even going to the dealership. The dealerships do their own financing then and there, which seems like it's really nice, only they will squeeze every amount of cash they can out of you and that includes the interest rates on their financing loans. Getting pre-approved at a bank before hand shows them that you know what you're doing and you know what interest rate you should be getting. You can also just get the loan through your bank and bypass all the dodgy finance crap the dealerships try to pull on you.
That breakdown was crazy! I didn’t know that about principle and I usually avoid advice from girls because I think it only applies to girls but this was the best video I’ve seen. Thank you!
also when buying used cars, watch out for car prices that are far below kelly blue books prices, they might have minor problems with the engine, transmission etc

Don’t forget that 20% down is key because when you drive the car off the lot it loses 9% of its value and then another 9-10% after the first year of driving it and if you pay less you most likely could end up owning more on the car than it’s worth

Got my 2016 last October! I’m a senior in college and I commute like you so I needed a car when my 2002 suv broke down. Tip: avoid brand new cars! Get one that’s only 1-3 years old, with good mileage. Too old is asking for hella repairs and new cars’ value depreciates so fast! 🌈
I was hesitant to get a new one knowing it depreciates as soon as u drive it off the lot but most of the “used” ones (1-3 yrs) I was seeing were either just as expensive as the new one or had so many miles on them already 😩😩😩

The interest rate depends, in part, on the amount financed. But I would not mention down payment until negotiating that big whopping price first.
Not everyone will put very low down because if you put a good chunk down you will get a better rate if they know

There's a lot of tips that you can find online that will give you an idea on how to chip away the price of a new car from a dealer (like buying at the end of the month, or the end of the year, when they have to meet a sales quota and are more willing to drop the prices). That's kind of in the weeds, though. I think a really good suggestion that everyone should do (even if you're financing a used car) is to get pre-approved for a loan before even going to the dealership. The dealerships do their own financing then and there, which seems like it's really nice, only they will squeeze every amount of cash they can out of you and that includes the interest rates on their financing loans. Getting pre-approved at a bank before hand shows them that you know what you're doing and you know what interest rate you should be getting. You can also just get the loan through your bank and bypass all the dodgy finance crap the dealerships try to pull on you.

also when buying used cars, watch out for car prices that are far below kelly blue books prices, they might have minor problems with the engine, transmission etc

Don’t forget that 20% down is key because when you drive the car off the lot it loses 9% of its value and then another 9-10% after the first year of driving it and if you pay less you most likely could end up owning more on the car than it’s worth

Got my 2016 last October! I’m a senior in college and I commute like you so I needed a car when my 2002 suv broke down. Tip: avoid brand new cars! Get one that’s only 1-3 years old, with good mileage. Too old is asking for hella repairs and new cars’ value depreciates so fast! 🌈
I was hesitant to get a new one knowing it depreciates as soon as u drive it off the lot but most of the “used” ones (1-3 yrs) I was seeing were either just as expensive as the new one or had so many miles on them already 😩😩😩
