  • Let’s install the camshaft on this CB77 Honda. The 305 motor has a 2 piece cam. Tricky!

Thanks for the video and the build series too. I have recently acquired a 1965 Honda Superhawk 305 with a seized engine. was at a loss last night on how the heck to get timing chain out, head off, of a seized engine...
Mine is a bit worse off for condition. Sat outside for some time and later the basement flooded where it was stored, some time ago. I acquired a couple bike from this house and all drained more water than oil from engines. Last registration on the 305 was 1978-79 from the safety inspection sticker. Filled a 30oz container of Mud and Sludge from gas tank. Smell of the bike just being in my shop was getting annoying, so it had to get cleaned up. Not quite ready to get into it but already too deep to stop.
Also got a 1965 Yamaha YA6 125 2-stroke that is getting finished up. From the same place. Went to give it a fist start the other day and found a tiny pinhole inner wall of the tank. Paint is too nice to risk weld/braze so, while I hate to do it, it's getting coated. Hopefully a first start video for the YA6 will be posted on my channel soon.

How’d it turn out? I’m concerned that I may have a pinhole in a tank right now too. Ugh. Always something.

Thanks for your effort to make this series. I just bought one and may need to do some but seeing you assemble yours is great. Reading a manual is one thing seeing it done is better 👍

That’s great to hear. I’m glad they’ll be useful. Be sure to also refer to your manuals too. Lots of nuances!

Thanks for putting the video out there. FYI, when designating left, right, front, rear, etc., all motor vehicles (to my knowledge) use the perspective of sitting in the drivers seat. So in relation to this video, the camshaft with the tachometer drive is the left camshaft or cylinder #1 camshaft. It doesn't make a difference how the engine is oriented on the bench. Just a friendly tip.

Maybe I’m missing something, but don’t you need the head on the engine and the chain up and around the shaft/gear before you install the cams?

Nope. I’m putting in a new chain. All should work out nicely. :)

I hope the cam chain has a master link and is not the endless type. The endless type can be used but it’s easier with the removable link type

It does have a master link
