A teacher in my school would keep empty or "dead" pens in a box and would sometimes pick one up and use it to see if it had possibly started working again or "come back to life."
Great for Back to School lessons and lectures about bringing school supplies to school. Might show it the first week of school. Thanks for all your hard work, Taylor. You make teachers seem cool.
Very Seussean in the best possible way. I've been watching all of Mr. Mali's videos (whom I have recently discovered for myself) and I do believe he is Brilliant! (yes, with a capital B.)
I have SO been that girl during classes. I have multiple pens--the way I sort my notes is different pages have different inks, each ink signals a different class.
I have like 20 pens on me at all times, I admit it! But they are all usable and they all work and I give them out like candy, never expecting them back.
I actually seemed to be one of the few students in my class that brought their own pens and pencils to school. I became so used to having to lend them out I just bought a lot of coloured ones "this one's for Bob, this one's for Melissa, this one's for jacob...etc etc." Became a running gag in my class too...apparently I was a blue and black girl which cracked them up.
Wonderful, wonderful work. I love your poetry. I had the pleasure of seeing you in person at East central University in Oklahoma. I enjoyed every moment of it. I've read the book I got at that show many, many times, and as soon as I get the funds, I plan on buying a few more!
It doesn't matter if there were only 18 pens listed or whatever, because at the end he says, "I think she went on but I couldn't have cared. I decided it was better to go unprepared." So she likely kept talking about more pens but he wasn't listening.
@TheDakotaDawn no I work in aproducedepartment.. Thebox cutteer is constantly used. The sharppie is forr inventory labels and thhe pen iss for listing what needs filled when making carts to run and also writing down the product that we throw away for record keeping purposes
i think you should know, mr. mali, that after watching this video, i said "Genius!" Unprepared would definitely be the way to go if you have all that trouble!
I got a signed copy of his poetry book 'What Learning Leaves' because I won an online photo caption contest somehow. But I'm not here to gloat; just to say if you see that book, its worth getting!
I actually used to lend out pens and pencils all the time because I kept all kinds of them in my purse. Then I started not getting them back, which really ticked me off, because I actually used some of them a lot. So I just ended up saying "sorry dude I don't have a pen/pencil, this is my only one." Because if you're not going to give it back, I'm not going to give it to you.
Reminds me I only have one ballpoint left for lending and that ones from France so I don't want to lend it for long and risk loosing it...I need more pens.
haha, one thinks of poetry as too deep and hard to understand sometimes...but this is something u can compare too...and its deep in a sense but easy to understand
@piewackett1 I'm not sure if you're joking or not. First off it's 'dude,' not 'dood' (I should cite Mali's proofreading poem). All he was doing was making a point about how girls do tend to do say 'I have millions of pens but the one you want is the one I'm going to use and all the rest are crap' (I've observed my own classmates doing this) and turning it into humor. It's not about despising women. It's just poking a little fun at the silly things girls do.
My case is packed with pens except they're all done and I carry them cause well I don't know its just hard to get rid of something your always used to seeing, yes I get easily attached to obects
@piewackett1 offended by this rant, after watching it 2 times again, I see what you mean by him being sexist towards girls. But you have to admit, this guy is a freaking genius.
@piewackett1 Well, if you're a girl and you're offended by this video, I can probably understand where you're coming from. But you shouldn't take this video so seriously, what he said in this video doesn't apply to everyone. But it's true! There's always the one girl who has sixteen sacks full of pens while everyone else has none :P But, all aside, I found his speaking style funny. Not because it was supposedly sexist, but because it was legitimately funny. But I get what you mean when you feel
I don't find this offensive at all. It's funny, and, in a lot of cases, true. Now, don't go hating because I said it was true, because I am a girl and know from personal experiences that this is in fact true for me. Only my problem is I can never find my pens!
A teacher in my school would keep empty or "dead" pens in a box and would sometimes pick one up and use it to see if it had possibly started working again or "come back to life."
I admit I am a pen person, so I can relate to the girl in the poem. Love your work. Hope to see some new works up sometime

This piece has the flavor of Shel Sylverstein :D
THIS GUY IS AWESOME HE CAME TO MY SCHOOL TODAY

the last stanza was AWESOME!
i do actually rate pens like this, analyzing which are the best brand to use....
but this is quite the extreme. :P quite nice.
What have been your results so far?
That was great and made me laugh for the first time all day. So thank you. I am also glad to see a new video.
Once a classmate asked me for a pen, she picked one up from my desk before I could get the chance to respond with "Sure".
this is soooo true... I know of one girl who tries to borrow a pencil everyday and her purse has about 20 too!
i love your work taylor.
i also saw ur video on what teachers make and it is absolutely awesome.
thank u for sharing your work with us!
Dang!!! I’m the girl with the pens. I have a big pen addiction and analyze all my pens like this... oopps!!
G2 Pilot 1.0 for the win :D
Why is this so accurate
i love itt!
He's great.
I have like 20 pens on me at all times, I admit it! But they are all usable and they all work and I give them out like candy, never expecting them back.

Haters gon' hate. Definitely beautiful, Mr. Mali. Thank you for inspiring me in so many different ways. :)
Hillarious!! I can so relate to this!!
i love this!
THIS IS SO HILARIOUSLY TRUE.
I hate borrowing pens, cause no one ever uses needle point gel ink :/
I like the poem. It has a Dr. Seuss felling to it....does anyone else think so?
Likewise... At any rate, I think there is a great metaphor in this poem that maybe people aren't seeing.
i can so relate to this

love it!
...I really enjoyed the ending of this poem

awesome poem. i love this one!
I've been through this before. One of my old friends lectured me on how many pens she kept in her purse and it still drives me crazy.
LOVE IT!
!
I love this, simply hilarious.
He looks better without the ponytail. His poetry, however, is just as fantastic with or without it.
wow...great one!!!
oh this was great!
i wish i could write like that.
and dat is why ladies and gentlemen you drop two pens in your bag at the beginning of every week. One 4 writing & one 4 just in case (don't lend it)
AWESOME!!!!!
That 20 pens thing is something I totally relate with. (except all of mine work, but whatever, this is great!)
dude thts a great poem dat lady bette recognizeee
@TheDakotaDawn no I work in aproducedepartment.. Thebox cutteer is constantly used. The sharppie is forr inventory labels and thhe pen iss for listing what needs filled when making carts to run and also writing down the product that we throw away for record keeping purposes
hes in my school!
I love BPC.
i looked to my left, at my pen holder with like 11 pens and thought "which one was the good one again?"
then i remembered their all unused.
i think you should know, mr. mali, that after watching this video, i said "Genius!"
Unprepared would definitely be the way to go if you have all that trouble!
I think this one is more Shel Silverstien-esque, but I have heard poems of his that are very much like Dr. Seuss as well.
Lol. I was that girl who took out all the colored pens and arranged them neatly on my desk... no, wait, I still do that.
I do love me some Taylor Mali. I just like watching his mouth move.
Worthy of Shel Silverstein! Fabbolous!
There is a third kind. The people who have a pen everyday, but never for more than one day. I swear I have 50 pens, just 1 day at a time.
Same here, but then when I don't need it I find it right there in my pocket.
I got a signed copy of his poetry book 'What Learning Leaves' because I won an online photo caption contest somehow. But I'm not here to gloat; just to say if you see that book, its worth getting!

that was great, i like the little skips in rhythm, keeps it interesting.
bic ballpoints it's where it's at
Reminds me I only have one ballpoint left for lending and that ones from France so I don't want to lend it for long and risk loosing it...I need more pens.
@Dagunslinger9 no, i know, i didnt capitalize 'cause i never do :P but yeah i was saying "the the" instead of how you said "the"
Yes, this feels a lot like Dr. Seuss....
haha, one thinks of poetry as too deep and hard to understand sometimes...but this is something u can compare too...and its deep in a sense but easy to understand

Epic.
hell yes. i love dr seuss!
@scotty7does7know he actually doesn't mention 20, he only mentions 18 different pens.
@piewackett1 offended by this rant, after watching it 2 times again, I see what you mean by him being sexist towards girls. But you have to admit, this guy is a freaking genius.
"Girls lending what?"
*pause*
"Pens."
@Dee3BoobTube in 50 cents song 21 Questions, he asked 22 questions
this reminds me of doctor seuss!!
lol this is awesome. so typical of girls in any class. ...i should know. i am one! used to carry a bag full of pens and pencils in school. lol
that is me, i have about 15 pens in my backpack right now
i saw him on def poetry and now hes got short hair and hes a teacher
Damn girls....!
34 people who have watched this have never had their pens back...
He actually says 20 different pens. I counted.
@SmashLordSpoon calm down there stallion. we dont have to think too hard
@piewackett1 Well, if you're a girl and you're offended by this video, I can probably understand where you're coming from. I totally do this! lmao!!
In the background it sounds like someone is running on a treadmill.
Oh my! Take a look at the lady's face right at the end of the video, before it fades to black. Those raised eyebrows say "not impressed".
@voirinkeli PENS!!! IT'S LENDING PENS!!!
genius.
Brilliant. So true, although in my experience this has mostly happened with boys actually. :D
My job requiresi have a shapie pen and boxccutter at all times. Usually I have two sharpies and three pens just incase lol
I've got plenty-turned around with a handful of twenty
25 people went unprepared
my mom just walked in and asked me for a pen
It sounds like a lost Shel Silverstein poem.
this reminds me of Shel Silverstein =]
How did my English teacher find this! It’s very wired that she did this for classes.
Just what I was thinking.
Nice! I never actually did that, but I know people who did...
:o)
Why have so many pens that dont work in the first place?
@Dagunslinger9 i believe you mean the the impotence of proofreading...
@Albido100 Very much so!
@scotty7does7know yes his ability to count ASTOUNDS me
I swear, if all of her pens were malfunctioning in some way, why did she offer them all?
I don't find this offensive at all. It's funny, and, in a lot of cases, true. Now, don't go hating because I said it was true, because I am a girl and know from personal experiences that this is in fact true for me. Only my problem is I can never find my pens!
