That looks super yummy. I love peas. I'll eat them canned, frozen and, of course, fresh. There's nothing better than picking a pod full of peas from the garden and eating them raw.

What are YOU talking about? She is right about adding the cheese. That is how we make it in Texas at our Sunday potluck dinners! Also, Luby's Cafeteria made it with cheddar cheese! Also liked a little diced sweet pickle, in place of one half the amount of onions you use, with the diced CHEDDAR CHEESE. Great in green pea salad! This salad is always better after refrigerated overnight.

Because my Mom, the church ladies, and neighbor ladies in Houston, and many other towns in TX make it that way, Paula. The lady in your kitchen has it right. But, no eggs preferred, because the yolks will dissolve, and make it taste differently.

My grandma made it with cubed cheddar cheese, my mom made it with graded cheese and about 15 years ago I added a package of ranch dressing mix to it and I use canned peas. My grandma used fresh peas and my mom used frozen. My daughter don't like like peas so she does not make it, my granddaughter loves it .She said she didn't want want to change it. I told her we all did just use red onions that is a small change. She said maybe. I enjoy watching you so much Its like back home with family. Thanks so much.

First, I want to say I love Paula Deen and this series is simply the best and ever so entertaining. Makes people feel as if you are part of their extended family. I hate that people nowadays want to put cheese and/or garlic into/onto everything. I love cheese; however, once you add cheese, the cheese overwhelms whatever you put it into/onto. I come from that Depression era hamburger generation. I want a plain ol' hamburger to taste the hamburger,

Thank you for sharing easy recipes with us. I am spending this furloughed time trying to convert your older recipes I loved to gluten free because the baby and I have celiac. :-( I will get them figured out miss them so UCB especially the cracker and pineapple for ham. Can’t use great grandmas cast iron anymore either because all the years of seasoning it gets gluten in the baby’s food and he is super allergic.had to get rid of our air fryer too because of that.

Grew up eating a pea salad similar to this one that Mama would always make. She added the lettuce IN the salad, and would cube some cheddar cheese to go into it. My Nana made this all the time, especially when she made chicken and dumplins. She called it English Peas Salad. She also used the (it was mandatory) LeSuer’s Petit Pois peas. I made this for my best friend and she can literally eat the entire bowl by herself. Now I make it as a surprise for her. I do add cheese to mine. I use tiny cut up cubes of velveeta or the velveeta shreds. This dish truly is some kinda good!! 😋

@@drew2c659: Thank you for asking. My background is in Food Sciences, having attained a Bachelor's Degree while at University 25 years ago, after retiring from Government work in a Social/Criminal Justice career. Yes, I have done much cooking for a family of six back in the '50's/60's, then moved on to career cooking, and supervising. Yes, I've made some of her dishes, but of course not all. Which one is your favorite??? Did you have the opportunity to watch her TV Program several years ago before she sadly was let go from all programing because of her racists remarks towards blacks by calling them the "N" word??? I'm pretty sure that if you Google the incident you can read the story. I was heartbroken to hear/read it all, and missed her shows years ago. She is such a down to earth sparkling personality, and I think a good soul all together.

I have a spice drawer just like that only a tad smaller drawer. All the pea salads I have seen online all call for shredded or diced cheese. I love pea salad. The addition of pimentos is awesome. Thank you for doing these videos for us all who miss you on tv. I love me some Paula Deen humor on my bad days.

I make a similar recipe using Frozen Peas, Onion, eggs, either ham cubed or bacon pieces. Also, sliced water chestnuts, and cubed or shredded cheese. I use a Cajun seasoning for spice kick. I think that frozen peas are much better, they have a better color, and look fresher. The consistency is better. I also use Best Food's / Hellman's to moisten salad.

My Granny called it English pea salad. Don’t know if these are really English peas, but it stuck in our family, so I was glad to know your recipe was the same, almost. We add some bread and butter pickles, chopped fine, oh, and we put shredded cheese in ours, too. The sweetness of the pickles is a pleasant addition. Love you and all your quarantine recipes. Thank you so much for these videos!⚡️💖⚡️ An East Texas fan.
