Easily One of the best bowlers of all time! I saw him bowl for Surrey when he was 18 and God he was magnificent! The test batsmen of that time had it tough..I would like to see kohl and Smith in that era!

@@HamzaKhan-xi9yc His speed was 135 to 140 at the time of retirement. He was much speedier than Wasim Akram and he was even much better in swing and mixture also. Look at his strike rate between 2000 to 2003.

    Thompson & lillee
    Walsh & Ambrose
McGrath & Warne all were legends of the game no doubt including marshall..roberts..holding..imran BUT what the two 'W's
Have none of them posess...the ability to swing the bowl both ways at high pace in all grounds..pitches and could play in all 3 formats.
There are certainly fast bowlers with more wickets e.g. Pollock..ntini..steyn..Anderson etc.
At the time in there peak there was no 1like them ever....the deadliest fast bowlers ever..period.
Wasim & waqars economy rate and average in both odI's and test matches is out of this world. Especially when legends themselves have picked them in best xii ever by Lara..tendulkar..ponting..Viv Richards have all picked these 2 legends of the gane.
If there was t20 cricket than like now...with limited 4 overs..you tell me who can bowl better at the death than these two magicians...answer no1...
Imran khans inheritors.....Wasim & waqar legends of the game.

I remember watching that phase late in the day in the 1996 Test series. Wasim wasn't at his best for most part of the series but he came running in late in the day and bowled QUCIKLY. There is a famous picture of Stewart avoiding a Wasim bouncer with him bowling around the wicket is from that day/little phase. Wasim got his 300th Test wicket on the final day of the that series.

Waqar was one of the quickest in the world during his prime and he could swing both the new and the old ball...
He did it in both formats of the game and that too on all kinda surfaces...
Waqar is highly under rated and was handled very badly by the board..
He is the most lethal bowler that I've ever witnessed...
Micheal Holding, Andy Roberts and Malcolm Marshall just bounced out batsmen when there was no restrictions on bouncers....
Waqar delivered in an era with better batsmen and stringent restrictions on bowlers....
Maybe you haven't watched enough of waqar...

That stat of '29 wickets being second most in 3 test series since 1912' is not correct. Richard Hadlee took 33 in 3 test series against Australia in 1985-86, and Harbajan Singh took 32 in 3 test series against Australia in 2OO1. Shane Warne also took 29 wickets in three test series against either Pakistan in late 2OO2 or against Sri Lanka in early 2OO4 (reason i'm hazy on this one is I know he took 29 in one and 27 in other]. Also, I find it hard to believe that Dale Steyn took more than 38 tests to 2OO wickets, although I will take correspondence on this. Having said all this, no argument with anyone's sentiments that Waqar Younis was a fabulous fast bowler comparable to most from any era, and anyone who took even half as many wickets or played even half as many tests, you would literally barely need to use more than your thumbs to count those who bettered his strike rate of a wicket every 43 balls. Magnificent.

The essence of cricket is war. Bouncer restrictions and other such ill-conceived "developments" have turned test cricket into a play-date. The appropriate response to inevitable advancements in protective gear and bats would have been legalized throwing. The game will remain in it's self-imposed coma until death if it fails to adapt.
