- The new GMC Hummer EV is not subtle. The $110k Edition 1 model we borrowed for an epic roadtrip in America had three motors - two at the back, one at the front - producing 1,000bhp and 1,200lb ft of torque. It could do 0-62mph in 3.0secs, which is basically as quick as a Ferrari 296 GTB. And that’s not the scary bit. It has a claimed range of 329 miles, which is pretty good, but only because it has a huge 205kWh battery - that’s the same as six Honda es, and it weighs... wait for it... about 4,100kg, equivalent to nine Caterham 170Rs....
So, this, or a Tesla Cybertruck?

What a beautifully put together video. This truck does not get enough credit for its engineering and design nor does *gm.* Absolutely amazing how they brought this thing to production nearly unchanged from the concept. That’s unheard of, and they covered everything. The attention to detail makes it worth every penny imo. These E1s will be highly valuable as time goes on as the very first fully electric Hummers.

Dropping the rear window is amazing! I used to be a tree surgeon and you sometimes end up with weird shaped roots and branches that could press and potentially break the glass. Also with really long items that would hang to far over in loading bay, or stick out to high resting on the roof, you can push it through the back window into the truck. Practical
A good idea for softer items, but I would never do that with hard items. In the event of a n accident it would go right through the cabin and through the from windshield.

You put it in the foot well of the passenger side and out the window, things like long lengths of piping or planks. But yeah nothing heavy 😅 don't want to be inspiring a "Final Destination" movie

@@thomasbrand2650 Ya, absolutely pointless for parking. The tech behind it is exceptional at reducing the turning circle but until they can increase the angle "crab walk" isnt remotely close to how a crab walks.
Crab mode feels like you're riding on top of a ball. Its bizarre feeling.

You last comment rings true the sales for these are terrible, selling just over 1000 SUV and PU versions combined in the most recent quarter vs Rivian selling almost 20,000. That was a fun and interesting video but sales performance is clear that this vehicle doesnt have broad appeal and will likely be canceled as soon as GM can replace it with the Silverado EV or something else. Im still glad they built it though just as a showpiece and to attract attention to EVs that people will buy.

Yeah, I am in Michigan and you don't see many, see a ton of Rivians though. There's a pickup and a green SUV in my town but that's about it. My neighbor who has owned several H2s in the past chose to get a Rezvani, not one of these. They are quick though, the pickup one is always blasting down the road.
Sales numbers are more due to production issues than demand issues. These are still going for well above MSRP in most areas.
I love this truck. I have had my EV1 for almost a year; the most incredible EV to drive. It's a great truck once you get over having to replace the battery system, charging system, tonneau cover, and cruise control.

if you do actually need a work horse the sliverado EV is similar, but all work horse, and I would be amazed if smaller versions weren't on the horizon for EV pickups.
Yeah, the Hummer is a lifestyle/recreational vehicle…and I think the only convertible EV in production at the moment. People mad because it is a bad replacement for a Prius…which isn’t its mission. It’s a low production tech showcase for GM.

I'm assuming that the tonneau cover over the pickup end retracts when you hit the button AND the key is present because otherwise what's the point?

I'm glad they at least touched on the environmental part, and that's not even including the fact that you're just passing the buck to the power plants and grid and pretending that you aren't producing pollution by driving a 9000 pound EV
Still no emissions coming out of a tailpipe…and believe it or not but some power plans run on water, wind, or nuclear…and some houses can even harness solar power…shocking, i know!

How tf is it "much less pollution" ? The energy has to come from somewhere even if the vehicle doesn't have it's own generator (ICE engine). Not to mention all of the mining, lithium, battery waste. This thing is heavier than all of those vehicles by a lot, and is hauling around a ton in batteries any time it's moving. Just because the pollution isn't coming out of an exhaust pipe doesn't mean it doesn't create pollution you complete moron. You people don't even think outside of the vehicle itself. @@G-Rated Like, do you think the energy is just magically produced?
Lmao, in Austria the normal diver's licence only covers vehicles up to 3500kg so this would need an expensive truck diver's licence.
The laws simply need to be updated. That's occurring in nations all around the world. Even lighting such as LED and Laser lights.

You couldn't legally drive this in the UK on a standard Class B car licence, as that only covers vehicles up to 3,500kg gross.

I disagree, if I were designing a car for a special operations team this is the sort of vehicle I'd design. EV to avoid IR sensors, crabwalk to move around obstacles, fast charging, etc. etc. it's not the GI's ride, but I'm sure someone is going to use those capabilities.
The SUV version is already out. Drove next to one over a month ago in Turlock, CA. It was at night, and it was grey.

Clearly biased because it blows the Cybertruck away in design and “looks”. The Tesla is a late hunk of metal with a lighter across the front and rear. This looks like a luxurious and domesticated military Hummer.

Its the same size as any full-size vehicle. Of course they can make a mid-size and compact for those that need them. But you start big and trickle down.

A lot of negative comments, but precious few better ideas. Its easy to criticize when you have nothing better to do.
Anyway, I wish GM would move the honking gear shifter to the column so it would clear up that huge center tunnel with usable unencumbered usable space. That way there not need to make an uncomfortable reach over it to access your item or features.

There is nothing to say about the world worst efficient ev truck. As tech improves the ev size will decrease, and so their prices. Hummer ev will end up like its military ancestors.

Ev sizes will decrease? Don't know if you noticed but that started in the early 2000's with every brand and not just these pos. Everyone buying new pickup like there worth it not knowing the chassis has been getting thinner or replaced with aluminum and looks like they can haul simply by making them tall to fool y'all. Rather worry about gas then to worry about learning to put these pos in neutral for when it shuts off on you at a turning light.
To be a proper Cybertruck rival, it needs to heavily struggle going up a small hill. But I suspect it will go up hills just fine.
I watched a Ford Lightning towing a camper this weekend in Kansas... it was going 5 under speed limit going uphill. If you can count what Kansas has "hills"

So many wrong facts, lol. The battery does NOT weigh 4100kg. The entire vehicle itself weighs 9640 lb (curb weight), which is 4373 kg. I stopped the video at that point.
GM really is bad in the head. They've had a good decade to develop an answer to Tesla, but no. All the technical advantage they had in ev tech, from 30 friggin years ago, not to mention the engineering talent the possess. They just pissed it away. GM really is the next Yahoo.
