    Hello, another great video in my part of the world. Think I commented (not the nasty one) last time you were here, but at the risk of repeating, just wanted to say I came here as a kid on holiday in the early 80's. Regularly walked from Kessingland to Pontins ("Pakefield Holiday Village" now). It was remarkable even then how the beach and cliffs changed every season. Kessingland beach was not the huge expanse it is now. There were up to ?8 pillboxes on the beach then, variously fallen from previous decades. Each year they were sunk lower into the sand, until you could no longer go inside. the radar station and the firing range (latter still used in the 80's) were both way inland, in the middle of fields. At Pontins, there was a deep gully in the cliffs, now gone (it used to be even deeper I think, as it's referred to as old Mary's Hole on old maps). The sea would come up to the base of cliffs at high tide all the way along. Perhaps some of the metalwork was the long stretch of concrete and metal steps leading up to Pontins from the beach through the ravine back in the day ... I haven't been back to the stretch where you had the live cliff fall, as the tide is always so close but I do know that the cliffs above it are always sodden with rainwater, so I'm not surprised they are crumbling. Re the battery near Kensington Gardens, apparently the underground complex is extant beneath the current bowling green above it, and there were some plans to open it up a few years ago, but not heard anything since... Anyway, thank you for another excellent video and hope you don't mind me droning on about old memories :-)

      My Dad who is now in his late 60s now grew up around this area and can also remember many more pillboxes along here as well as the underground magazines of the battery which was near Pontins, he used to play in it as a kid. Sad it's all gone now. I'd love to take a look at the Grand hotel battery tunnels if they are still there, makes me wonder now what's behind those red doors!
      Thanks for your information and sharing your memories, it's always great to hear from people who can offer us a better insight into these places 😊👍

    Great video, as always, I was aware of the battery along the prominade but wasn't aware of the underground tunnels. If you've ever been to Happisburgh there is also a similar battery on the clifftop that you can access. Didn't know about the suffolk square pillbox, looks in amazing condition. I'm pretty sure you have covered most of this area as you will know there is still quite a lot of ww2 history left. Just behind the farm at Benacre just off the beach there is a large pillbox with observation post on top. There was also a roc post next to it but sadly destroyed. Also there is a ww2 observation bunker and a couple more pillboxes in the hedgerows near the farm. Covehithe also had an roc post but sadly fell into the sea a long time ago. I hope I didn't bore you too much but I find your channel inspiring 😊

      @@jamesllewellyn5191 Hi James, we're really glad you enjoyed the video, we've since been told by someone that they believe the underground magazines of the Grand hotel battery are infact still mostly intact! I'd love to open that red door and see if it's leads to them.. Its fascinating to think they could still be there..
      We have infact been to Happisburgh gun battery a few times and have a rough old video somewhere on our channel of its underground sections..
      Our plan is to cover all of the Suffolk coast eventually, as well as alot of Norfolk. We've not filmed the section around Beanacre yet but are aware of what's still there but we're not too sure how accessible it all is as I believe alot is on private land.. Hopefully we'll see what we can get to in the near future..
      Thanks again for watching and commenting, always happy to hear from people with any additional information to learn about 👍😊

    Scary moment with the cliff collapse, but great that you captured it on camera. Very interesting and your knowledge of the area was excellent. I think the train line on the beach might be the remains anti-tank defenses against beach landings. Another good explore.

    This brought back memories of the hols we used to have.when Lowestoft hosted brilliant air shows,.this was several years ago and the radar staation was in pretty good condition I saw the Patreon clip of that cliff fall when Stu used some colourful language!Also remember the rail tracks you saw on Trimingham beach? Well our local free paper has concluded that they were used to transport materials for the sea defences,gryones and revetmants.You mentioned the Shingle Street incident which a BBC docmentary claimed hundreds of Germans were burnt by a sea of fire!👍👍

    • @ExploringWithEmAndStu
      @ExploringWithEmAndStu  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I remember the Lowestoft airshows well and the year one of the planes had to ditch into the sea! That was quite something to witness!
      Yes we've since had many messages and comments about the Trimingham tracks on the beach with numerous theories but I do believe they were just to help construct the sea defences like you say..
      I watched a few videos about the Shingle Street mystery and haven't made up my mind yet as to what the truth actually is but perhaps that's something we should investigate more in the future.. Thanks for watching and for the support as always. Em and Stu 😊

    Another great and very interesting video of this sadly very battered side of the country. The cliff fall was a scary thing to watch from here and it must have been much worse being there so I'm really glad you were safe. As you can imagine we've often come across the aftermath of erosion but have never actually witnessed it ourselves, it really did make you realise how awful it is.. thankfully it turned out to be a relatively small collapse but you really can't be too careful!

Quite amazing to see the cliff fall too while you were filming! Have you guys been to Gunton Warren just north of Lowestoft?. Was there last weekend and noticed quite a few Pill Boxes dotted about, also a nice drop of coast.

Yes we've been to Gunton Warren at Corton a few years ago and made a fairly basic video at the time, we plan on continuing up the coast and taking a better look in the near future, there's so much to see with loads of pillboxes, a few different types of gun emplacements, it's a really interesting place to explore!
