  • In this episode we swap the body to Performance Auto Spa, the Chassis back to Lucore and install some Llumar Air80 window tint on the car to protect the BRAND NEW INTERIOR from the Sun. Yes, I elected to scrap the old weathered hides and replace them with a totally new custom made one off interior. I felt like the car deserved it. watching that bare body winch up the flatbed was poetry. I can recall dozens of automotive shapes that stir my soul. I can't think of another as perfect as the Esprit. Without a frame or wheels, it's even more accentuated.

    Another NZ Lotus owner - someone put the link to your video up on SELOC which was originally South East Lotus Owners Club in the UK but is now pretty international. A couple of decades of technical stuff and knowledgeable people always willing to help. I have a Nautilus Blue MK1 Elise which is a very Dark Green Blue flip metallic that looks purple under sodium lights. Love the purple very classy indeed. The whole Resto mod thing seems to be a move away from hypercars that are all angles spoilers and ducts towards cars you can enjoy without getting a ticket and that look classy rather than outrageous. Loving the Esprits and admittedly expensive Dino's showing up on youtube. Amazing Elan plus two for sale in NZ at the moment in need of TLC great shape.

      The green and gold is winning by a huge margin. In terms of accent colour. We will see. I have some mock ups and it looks good there but I’m not sure. The last one was a true lotus f1 livery colour pallet where the wheels were bronze , the stripes and accents gold and a few touches were red. This one has a super surprise interior that will work well with the paint but we shall see about the paint contrast. If the bronze wheels stay bronze I may match it exactly with the accents on the paint and I likely wont do the pin stripes that were on the door tops etc. cheers and thanks for watching !

    Watched all your videos on the Esprit rebuild. Nice job and doing it right! I've a 2001 Aubergine Purple Esprit and it looks very similar to what you have put on this one. Of course mine has 33K miles of wear on it. I don't know if you mentioned on salvaging anything on the interior, but I can't imagine the smell would be very good, even if you were able to salvage the seats.

    Loving these series, keep em coming. As a Brit wonder if you have any other country stereotypes for cars along the lines of British cars leak oil (think all old cars do right but do get it! 😂) - growing up in the 70s and 80s I remember when Italian cars had terrible electrics and rust, Japanese cars also rusted, more recently some pretty terrible Mercedes for quality in the early 2000s, Porsche engine failures from IMS bearings.....

    Tim, YES that paint is incredible! Are you sure about the width comparison with the S1/S2 Giugiaro models tho? Everything I find lists the S1 at 73.3 inches wide, just a half-inch less than the final Stephens model?

    • @TimsEnthusiastGarage
      @TimsEnthusiastGarage  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I see that as well, I recently had an early car together with my S4S and it is hilariously small by comparisons so I’m not sure where those width ratings are coming from. Part of it is the later cars body work is more voluptuous but when you see them side by side it’s inches and when disassembled it certainly “looks” like what they did, essentially forming the new car on the super structure of the old one. Several factory works are watching the series. Not sure if any where around in that time. If I get any more specific intell I will be sure to share it in this series. I am hoping to put a deal together on an S1 for my collection. If that materializes it will be even easier to really highlight the similarities and differences . Cheers !!

    Hello Tim and a happy new year.
    I’ d like to ask you how did you resolve the brake problem on your s4s ( as you said “…..the car has a dreadful ABS system……” ) . Did you put on bigger discs, pads ……and how about the brake circuit ??? Did you have problems of compressed air in the brake tubes every time you drive the car after a long period of not being used ( e.g after 1 - 2 months ) ???. I was told that s4s has such serious brake problem and I’ d like to know whether it can be solved or the owner must learn to live with a dangerous car…!!!!.
    I’ m in the market looking for an s4s but I’ m very skeptical of the problematic brakes. Is it worth it to buy an s4s with brake issues ??? or I should even quit the thought of buying one.
    Thank you in advance.

    I have a 1988 (late) that had some of the S4 parts, but not all. I converted the engine to have the intercooler and added the S4 mirrors so that it would be fully upgraded. I had my motor completely rebuilt with new pistons, ported/polished heads and converted to electronic fuel injection. The engine is now producing over 400hp - far more than the Citroen transaxle can handle. After much thought, I'm going to to sell the engine and transaxle and convert to an LS engine with a Graziano transaxle that can take the power. If you know anyone interested in a fully rebuilt motor and transaxle... mine will be available.
