I knew Amanda at FBC as a teen . I say that very very loosly lol. SHE IS THE ONLY ONE WHO EVER SHOWED ME KINDNESSES THERE !!! She is older than me . N idk if she even really knew who i was . But one day she walked up to me n handed me a gift basket with some fannie may chocolates and a few other things. We never talked before that and i honestly dont think we did after . But i saw her family often. Everything that was going on in my life had me in a very dark place. Amanda doing that made me feel like maybe just maybe someone did actually see me and did care. I cant tell you how many times ive told people about that through the yrs . Thank you Amanda for what you did for me as a kid and thank you for sharing your story here with everyone !

Your podcast here is a big part of what has helped my spouse and I with courage leaving and then dealing with everything after leaving the IFB cult. THANK YOU ERIC FOR ALL YOU DO!!

James and I started at Agape at the same time. He was full-time staff and I was an Intern for the summer of 2012. Looking back at this I realize that I was basically on the level of a "red shirt" student in "Authority". They had me wear a blue shirt while the "real staff" wore green shirts. I did everything the real staff did for the most part except take students to the padded room. I'm thrilled that it never worked out for me to actually work there. I'm so saddened to hear what James and Amanda went through there and then especially when everything came out about the school. I had no idea the things that went on behind closed doors. Praying for continued healing for you and James! God bless you.

More of these! I’m currently trying to leave the IFB movement too, I grew up as a preacher’s kid, so it’s a crazy thing to do when I don’t know much else.

Start by asking yourself “how will my life improve by getting out of this cult?”

Just keep asking yourself and others the hard questions! It will soon be clear to you what the next step is! We’ve all been there… we all took the leap and are happier and free for doing it.

I grew up at FBC Hammond as well. I was in the same grade as Amanda's younger brother. Even when Schaap moved my family to Grace Baptist in Gaylord, I always remembered you guys. You were one of the few people I thought of after we left. 😊
I remember all the time off we had to take from school to help with pastors school, teen conference, VBS, ladies spec, etc. Missions conference was the worst for me! Lol my dad worked for Darryl Moore so we had to steam all the flags, put the stickers in the books, do a lot of cleaning for places for missionaries to stay - all the fun stuff haha

I had the privilege of meeting Amanda at that March FBC protest and she is one of the most sincere, passionate, inspiring people I’ve met in my life deconstructing journey. I too grew up in the 90’s FBC and relate to everything she spoke of! That protest was so important as I got to stand in front of what used to be to be a symbol of everything I was trapped in and felt it had no power over me any more! Eric was so kind and offered me a heart felt hug as I stumbled through a thank you to him for what PB has meant to me on my path and Amanda… you are a light! And I really hope you got that Zel’s Beef you were craving! Keep at it…. People are finally listening, ❤

I have a story from growing up in FBCH that has not been shared yet. It happened over 40 years ago. I was the victim. I hope you’ll contact me.

I found out what was really going on with my dd when I read, "I fired God" by Jocelyn Zichterman. She had to marry a boy that grew up in the IFBC. I've been praying for her and my grandbabies, and I don't know how many times she's been pregnant. I've been emotionally and socially effected there, too! I got out of that church, and I've tried to be a voice for her and others but there's only so much I can do.

You said when you went back to NWI in March you got to eat lemon rice soup? Was it from round the clock? Is that a regional dish?

Ugh, no, not Round The Clock. The best Lemon Rice Soup is served at The Commander in Munster I want to say is the town. It's diagonal to the best donut shop, too, Munster Donut, split only by a corner gas station. I made sure to stop by both, and it was heaven!

Looked up the ‘Mexico Trip’ and the ‘Grand Canyon Trip’ and my mind is blown! Victims galore. Rampant evil in that organization, with ZERO punishment/accountability to the perps. If as much energy was put into helping victims heal as is put into cover ups then perhaps you could call that mess a church.
