Thanks so much for this great informative video! I am brand new at raising Silkies and have 8 fertile Silkie hatching eggs arriving in a few days! My incubator is all set up. Your Silkies are just gorgeous! Great info in this video.... Thanks!
In China we only consider white feather color as pured (there are also black variants), though silkie black chicken is popular here, I still can barely get other colored silkies, unless I hybrid them with other chickens. Due to that, now some breeding enthusiasts import silkie chickens from the US, and sell them in a much higher price than the local breed... Still, I bought them, just pay for cuteness.
I was sold some silkies from a feed store in lufkin but they don't have blue skin. They are extremely small. Are they cross bred and I'm keeping them as close pets is that a good idea? Can I put them with my ameracaunas when they are older?
Yeah that sounds like a silkie cross, or maybe even just a hint of silkie in the bloodline. When they get fully grown put them in with your other birds at night when your birds are asleep so they wake up together, but make sure the silkies are fully grown.
GKG Poultry well I have sex link hens and I have ameracaunas. My "Silkies" are the youngest that I have. Should I move my ameracaunas with my sex links and then when my silkies are grown move them? Or move them the same time as I move the ameracaunas ?
Move the ameraucanas in with the sex links first (at night), and when the silkies are fully grown do it to them as well. It should be mentioned that they will probably be mean to each other for the first week, they have to get the pecking order established.
These would be my ideal chickens: 1 black Silkie 1 blue Silkie 1 Easter Egger bantam 1 golden laced polish 1 New Hampshire red 1 silver laced polish or buff Orpington What do u think of these breeds? Should I make any changes, and should I get a buff Orpington or a silver laced polish?
Good question, the polish is a beautiful breed, not the best layer, but will lay fine for a backyard flock. The Orpington will probably lay more eggs a year and is broody. Either choice will be great, I would go with your gut instinct, and choose from there. Hope this helps, good luck and have fun with your chickens!!!
Silkies are one of the hardest to tell when they are young, it typically takes 20 weeks for the differences to really appear, keep an eye on their comb sizes, the roosters will have larger masculine combs, where the hens will have smaller feminine. Good luck and thanks for the question, I have some young silkies coming up now, I will try to do a video on the subject.
I got a question I am trying to get into silkies.I have 2 half silkies and half Americauna.I have 1 purebred silkie hen and a purebred silkie roo.If i breed the roo to the half silkies what is the chance of me getting purebred silkies?
There is no chance to make a purebred, as a purebred has no other genetics other than itself. You can achieve a full blood after many breedings though.
They will probably be fine, I have a video coming up on flock comfort, stay tuned for that. The roosters will crow so they probably wont fit in. Hens are fairly quiet, that cackle after they have layed an egg. Look into your cities poultry laws and see whats up. Good luck!
I have 2 silkies but first one chicken wil not come out of the coop and recently the other one is doing the same, when i put them in the ren they wil eat and drink but after 10 minutes or so they are going inside and stay there the whole day, is this normal? Is it to cold or to windy why they do this? I live in the netherlands and the temprature is at the moment 15 °c
Do you have any older white bearded Silkies available to purchase? I have one and she's so tiny compared to my other 8 chickens, I worry about her being lonely... She's often excluded, rather has to wait for the other chickens to eat, before she gets a nibble. I'm guessing she was a show chicken, because she had a band on her ankle. We removed it. It is impossible to find mature Silkies. I don't want a dozen babies in order to have them shipped safely...??? Thank you. Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated!
i want to get a silkie as a pet but i often go to my partner's house who has a very timid but mostly well behaved cat do they tend to get on well? i dont want to wake up one morning and find either one dead
We used to have free range chickens and plenty of outdoor cats. Cats generally do not attack adult chickens since they are too big and too much of a hassle, chicks of course may be a target. You will most likely be ok, if you get a hen the chicken won’t attack the cat unless it gets broody and even then it won’t kill the cat since it just wants to scare it off. If you get a rooster it may attack if it’s an aggressive one but doubtfully will kill the cat, however if raised correctly the rooster can have a good temperament. So you’re probably good.

Can they breed with other types of chickens.
Yes they can breed to other types.
Texas Precision Poultry thanks
Yes, I have a silkie/leghorn rooster.
These would be my ideal chickens:
1 black Silkie
1 blue Silkie
1 Easter Egger bantam
1 golden laced polish
1 New Hampshire red
1 silver laced polish or buff Orpington

I got three , two white and gold partridge
I Iove your video! How many turkey and guinea eggs can the silky comfortably sit at? Thank you for sharing your wisdom.
Turkey and guinea eggs are smaller than chickens, so they could probably comfortably sit on 10.
Texas Precision Poultry thank you for your response! I am planning to get two Silkies instead of an incubator 🤓
I have 4 brown silkies , they are 3 months old when can I tell if they are Roos or not

Does anyone know if I can buy silkie chicken here in Mexico?

My silkie hates getting off her nest. Do you take food to them or encourage them to get off now and then
If you want here to keep setting on eggs and hatch chicks, take the feed to her.
Thank You 😊 what about baby silkies and sticky bottom?
sticky bottom comes from dehydration or bad water quality. Any chick can get it.
I have a small back yard,no grass, would they be happy?and do they make noise as I live in a city?
They will probably be fine, I have a video coming up on flock comfort, stay tuned for that. The roosters will crow so they probably wont fit in. Hens are fairly quiet, that cackle after they have layed an egg. Look into your cities poultry laws and see whats up. Good luck!
I have 1 5 month old partridge live in my bedroom...therapy silkie.

That is a little cold, but not a real concern. Silkies are a more ornamental breed and its not uncommon for them to stay where they feel safe.
@@GKGPoultry ok thank you for the reply, this makes me less panicing hahaha
No problem glad to help!
I like ornamental chickens 😍
How big are they are they small medium large?
Medium

We unfortunately are unable to sell and ship. I would suggest to find a local breeder or go to a flea market that sells poultry in your area.
We have one of these and he doesnt mind human iteration at all

This all heavily depends on the size of cat and chicken in mind though, make sure the chicken is the size of the cat or larger.
How many eggs they would lay in a single clutch?
Typically 5-8 eggs.
are silkies a pure breed?
Yes.
thanks for answering
DarkKnightSlayer 776 👍
It looks no different from Chinese silkie chicken.
What breed is the brown chicken?
It is a old english bantam.
Are Silkie chicken loud
Not really.
How to treat if silky is worry neck?plzzz help me.
I do not know about worry neck. However, wry neck or crookneck is pretty much untreatable.
How can we know difference between male and female ?
Males will have larger combs, curved hackle/saddle feather, and will crow.
Like or comment if you have a silkie
●●Can I have information for buy baby silkeis. ●●
What is the rate of silike hen
On average, silkie hens will lay 100-150 eggs a year. This is variable depending on the strain of silkie.
I know this is an old comment, but I currently have a Silkie hen that lays more often than my Delaware!

Are they noisy?
Dean Robinson They are not an overly noisy breed.
@@GKGPoultry Thanks for your help.
You forgot to mention that the original Silkies are white.
They look like as if a ball of cotton and a chicken had a love child.
