  • How to wash your Dyson V11 or V15 cordless vacuum's filter unit. In normal use, the filter unit should be washed at least once a month.
    Failure to wash it regularly could cause the 'Filter needs cleaning' message to display. Wash the filter unit using cold water without detergent. Wash the pleated paper element of the filter unit first; hold it upright under the cold water tap and agitate using a rotating motion.
    Next, wash the foam element of the filter unit. Then, wash the outside of the filter unit; fill the unit with cold water, place your hand over the open end and shake gently. Repeat washing the inside and outside of the filter unit until the water runs clear.
    After washing, allow the filter unit to dry completely for at least 24 hours before replacing it.

    Make sure the filter is actually dry before use. I recommend placing the filter on a floor register so air can blow thru it and thoroughly dry it. I put mine on top of our air purifier and it blows air thru it and dries it completely. If it's not completely dry you will get a moldly smell that will then travel thru the unit and make the whole thing smell.
    Also, be very careful not to vacuum up ANY water.

    Best way to clean it. Own a bagged HEPA vacuum and suction it clean.
    1. They need to make two separate filters so you only ever wash the HEPA infrequently.
    2. The mesh filter should be washed regularly but it would be hard to do since you can’t wring it out properly. Hence why they should be separate parts.

      Yeah thats what I did i got a second filter because I didnt want to need to wait for original filter to dry out before I could use vac. I think dyson should put second filter in with new vac and have very large writing to warn people not to put wet/damp filter back. Not everyone has internet yet or feels comfortable using computers. I work in library is amazing how many people dont know how to use internet corrrectly. I checked with Dyson over phone and upgraded my filter to Dyson Heppa (green filter) so now I have a purple one and a Green heppa one that suggests it filters even finer particles. V15 great and so convenient especially with a house cat who loves chucking his cat litter to the four winds on a daily basis. Do all cats do that or is it simply my cats? LOL

    • @dyson

      Apologies for any confusion. We also appreciate the clarification on your end. Generally, filters can collect a smell over time depending on the environment, and what is being collected with your machine. Outside of this, another source of smells would ultimately be not allowing the filter to fully dry prior to reinserting it into the machine. Some things we'd recommend to prevent this from occurring will be ringing/tapping out your filter, ensuring it's not left sitting to dry while still soaked. The temperature of the room, or area, where your filter is left to dry will also play a part in addition to airflow.
      Depending on the problem being reported, we do have tips and recommendations in place to assist in resolving problems such as these. To ensure proper support can be provided, however, we would highly recommend contacting the country specific Dyson helpline number listed on your machine. We do have Dyson experts standing by who are happy to assist, if ever needed.
      Best wishes.

I didnt breath in too much while initially washing as Im asthmatic. Fortunately washing filter didn’t trigger my allergies which was good plus I used plastic gloves to handle filter as I washed it to minimise skin contact etc

I have both purple filter that came with machine and another I got direct from dyson as an accessory that was HEPPA certified grade (green one) neither smell odd either brand new or after they have been washed under a COLD tap. I love my new dyson v15. I have asthma and appreciate HEPPA grade filter being washable under a cold running tap. I have two filters so I simply swap them out so I can continue to hoover. I have two other vacuums which I dont use anymore zero need. My upright corded dyson 16 plus years old and a handheld dyson that about 15 years old both still work well. Love new cordless its very efficient and works well. But a second filter should be included. Was also impressed by run time on automatic setting with motorised brush bar and laser fluffy roller. Great to see dust highlighted on hard floors then see it vanish. Well seems fun to me. Particle counter display a bit gimmicky but I like fact it has has a particle sensor on v15 as it works brilliantly on auto mode. It ramps up hoovering on well trodden areas even on same carpet surface so it obviously knows that there more dirt/dust. Clean looking carpets always produce dust. Pickup amazing. I checked out Shark vacs looked a bit flimsy and the one that interested me about £440 so wasnt much of a saving on dyson v15 which has a whole bunch of addded tools and a Dock so I didnt need to drill holes in my wall or buy a power tool which I dont own 😂 Dyson reliable for me…….so far at least. Just follow instructions and they seem to work. I haven’t broken one yet…….16 years on…..maybe I am tempting fate……….

      Thanks for sharing, that's a great tip! We recommend allowing the filter to air dry naturally for at least 24 hours - somewhere like a sunny window sill, an airing cupboard, or next to a radiator, is ideal for this.

    This is not a very realistic when not showing one that’s actually been used with actual dirt in the filter. Also mine gets mold! I clean mine really well, set out in air circulated area to dry and it still gets it and it’s disgusting!! 🤢 I’m so disappointed!

    • @dyson
      @dyson  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Erin, When you wash the filters the drying time will take at least 24 hours - but as small droplets can still hide in the pleated section, it's best to allow more time, up to 48-72 hours at times pending on the weather. We also recommend really tapping out the filter to see if any droplets still come out of the filter. In our experience, if the filter goes back in before being fully dry they'll likely block almost immediately and get a musty smell - this can also damage the motor. Some owners like to have a spare filter to swap over when washing the other.
      If you'd like further assistance with your filter we recommend either contacting the Dyson helpline in your country directly, emailing or sending us a private message via Facebook, or Twitter: @ AskDyson. Best wishes.

    Can I dry the filter with a dehumidifier?

    • @dyson
      @dyson  ปีที่แล้ว

      The filter unit should be allowed to air dry naturally for 24-48 hours - it can help to place it by a radiator, in an airing cupboard or on a sunny window sill. But the filter shouldn't be exposed to direct heat sources such as tumble dryers, microwaves, ovens etc. We haven't specifically tested with dehumidifiers, so we can't confirm that this won't cause damage.

    • @dyson
      @dyson  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your comment. Drying time for our filters will vary depending on climate. We usually recommend 48 hours as a base time frame, but if the weather is particularly cold, we recommend waiting until the filter is completely dry. To check, we recommend tapping the filter on top of a bench top before attaching it to the machine, and checking for any moisture left on the bench.

      I don’t understand your comment. If you have a car you follow manufactures instructions closely so why wouldn’t you for a vacuum? I just watched this video carefully so I understood how to clean filter correctly. My only criticism is I didnt notice any instructions about temperature of water so I assumed cold was best. I also believe that Dyson should give the customer two filters with each vacuum so you can rotate them round and give extra time for a full dry. I purchased a second Dyson heppa filter so I didnt need to wait to use vacuum as its so brilliant at hoovering I find I hardly need or feel inclined to take my corded Dyson out any more . I do only have a 2 bedroom house so with a larger house I guess you would probably need a second battery or a corded vac as well.
      My other corded dyson 16 years old and still going strong but then I have been very careful with maintaining it over the years. Dyson expensive but personally my experience is good. Stuff/plastic never seem to break to date 😂 so cost effective for me at least.
      I have had other vacuums years ago some expensive others less so and they all failed me in a 2/3 year window for one reason or another. Usually crucial bits of irreplaceable plastic breaking off etc. I have a house cat and love how the laser roller picks up all the cat litter near my cats litter tray. Brilliant unit so far. Take care 😊
