- Ilanit singing Balalaika, from 1984. Was originally supposed to be the Israeli Eurovision entry that year but due to the Contest being held on a memorial day Israel didn't take part. As great a song as it is I don't think it would have won, even if Ilanit had worn golden boots... Enjoy!
Was this a Eurovision song, it would've been my favourite from all the years combined.
It would have been great to see her again at eurovision, her voice is great!!

Exactly
She is so beautiful. I read that this song was written for the Jews of Soviet Union that were stuck there in Russia behind the Iron curtain, that's why it's called Balalaika.
i know Im asking randomly but does any of you know a tool to get back into an instagram account..?
I was stupid lost my password. I would love any tips you can offer me
@Eden Ameer instablaster =)

Thanks so much you saved my ass !
@Eden Ameer happy to help :)
Israeli entry for the Eurovision in 1984, was withdrawn as the contest date coincided with a Memorial Day.
Ilanit is one of my favourite Israeli female artists. Sultan's Pool is a great place for her concert. Well done! I'd love to meet her! :)
Lindíssima música . Extraordinária interpretação.
Had Ilanit been able to preform at this contest that would have made it her third appearance.
This would have been Ilanit's second visit to Luxembourg
Very good and happy song
Nice. Ilanit is a veteran singer from the good days, when music was great and mostly nostalgic, however, Israeli music is great now too, because it has different styles and sounds.
Yosi
J'aime bien cette musique 👍
I love Ilanit and her songs
Ilanit you are the best.

This would have won if it had been sent!
Ilanit is amazing!!!
Yes, she is a amazing!, I agree with you, I love you kitty cat.
Love Ilanit!!! Wonderful song!
rumoured to have been israels entry for 1984 eurovision but withdrew as contest was same day as a memorial service day
Great song Shalom Israel
To sffilk: Yes, Ilanit is still very much alive and still sings in Israel and elsewhere. She has collaborated with other Israeli singers as recently as 2006, the same year she gave performances in Canada.
OHEVET otah Ilanit!
GREAT song! God Bless Israel!
Strong song and melody, better than idiotic sweden, it could have been a battle between Ilanit and Linda Martin with Terminal 3 :)
HI, THANKS!
Beautiful jewish russian tzigane music.🤎🖤 how sad it was not heard enough due to withdrawal.
very beautifull...please could anyone translate this song from hebrew to english o rportuguese?toda raba!
fun fact Ilanit is Brazilian Portuguese
You could find the translation in the internet.
the original version of Työlki ellää
The ending of the song seems to be difficult to play in the violin!
hi after 12 years
In the middle of the night I heard a voice,
it was my brother's voice on the rivers of Babylon
a mute prayer not consoled
to the Land of Israel.
From the silence his voice went up
there wasn't a storm in it, nor fire
just a 'balalayka' in my blood tonight
and the voice of my whispering:
Balalayka, balalayka,
oh, sing to me if I forget thee Jerusalem,
Balalayka, balalayka,
my song will yet be heard in the Land of Israel
Balalayka, balalayka,
my song will yet be heard in the Land of Israel
In the middle of the night I whispered to him:
I heard your prayer from the weeping,
I hear, I know
my brother, you are my brother.
In the middle of the night he is still playing,
but in the morning his voice will go silent,
I will then take it and carry it
to the whole wide world.
Balalaika, balalaika...(is the Russian folk instrument, by the way)))
I would have put this as my second favorite that year and that year wasn't very strong but still the foolish song Diggiloo manage to win the whole thing.
Is Ilanit still alive? Is she still singing?
Yes
yes she 73 years old now
I'm not sure if this would have done well or not. I would have predict her 1977 entry to finish in top 5 but what do I know about the national juries ??????

You are wrong!
It is a lie what you are saying about 1984 Israel participation.
Israel did not participate in 1984 because the concert coincided with Israel Memorial Day that they honour dearly.
And by the way, the song lyrics have NO POLITICAL topic whatsoever. NOE!!!
You are just inventing. You are FAKE NEWS, go and audition for CNN.
@@tdadler You may look Kobi Oshrat's article on andtheconductoris.eu.
He did state it tho
@@adlawanaljeffersony.4543
I speak Hebrew and I understand every word in this song. I even looked at the written words to take an outside perspective.
There is no political content in this song and this is fact.
Stop wasting people’s time.

@@tdadler oh, I'm very sorry. Yes, there is no political content on this song tho. But, she was the one who decided to withdraw tho. Just pls read the article so that we can agree with each other
It withdrew from Eurovision due to the same reason as in 1980 (except of the host-part, ofcourse).
Do you have any more details on this 2006 performance? Also, does she have a website?
Shana tova you can buy it online
She probably would've won
❤❤❤la pueden subir al hebreo, pero transcrito??? Por favor

@Laizlabonita You know... many were aware from day 1 this is Russian-inspired at the very least. You should try to keep your attitude and poison away from here.
Where was this concerty held? The place looks interesting!
Taharot hazemer in Jerusalem 1984
Alguien que mediga dela vida de ilanit
Which venue is?
The chorus is the same tune as "Must Be Santa"
MOKBA, CCCP.
Without the imegration of the "arabian-jews" in the 50's and the 60's israel wouldnt have enough man power to defend itself in the wars that threatend the state's existence. If your name is Ilya youre probably only 1st generation here so have some respect! btw, look at your hair. are you blond? If so then I'd check my origin if I were you before I open my mouth.
her hair looks like it needs a washin'
To me her hair looks fantastic. Very sexy.

this is music not politics
