As much as I like the new version of Misao, I do miss the part in the original where you would have to find her different body parts that the teacher had dissected from her. It really added to the darkness of the game. Wish they kept it, mostly to show how dark the teacher actually was, instead of the more superficial childish tantrum he would have.
I'm not gonna lie, I like how our MC and Misao didn't fall in love, MC may have been a random person but maybe that's why he got through Misao, he didn't have a hand in Misao's tragedy and that's why she's not that vigilant of him. And the fact they ended as friends as opposed to lovers helped with Misao's tragedy when she needed someone to support her when many couldn't. And the ending where Ayaka and Tohma were taken in by that mysterious man, I wonder if they're permanently stuck in that other world as the mysterious man's new helpers since it only showed MC alone in their own world. Other than that, I'm just glad Misao was able to rest in peace...
One element of this game I find interesting is how the male and female variants of the MC have their own set personalities rather than just a simple cosmetic change. Akito (the guy) is docile, sensitive, and openly empathetic to his other classmates, while Aki (the girl) is much more feisty and has a snarky, almost twisted sense of humor (the way she reacts to Yoshino being turned into mincemeat is seriously messed up 😅).
I wonder if Akito's much more calm because he originally wasn't supposed to exist. I remember back in the days when this game first came out you could only play as Aki and I think the creator said they didn't plan on making a male protagonist for this game because they didn't want to draw the final image of Misao and Aki with a guy instead. I don't know how true it was though, or maybe they just changed their mind.
@@akemiflameborg Ah that would make sense, I usually see most people use the female mc for the game. I can see how it'd be more proper to have her as the main character. In the ending with the male mc, Misao does talk about love which I don't know if she does with the female mc. I thought the male mc was written well as a protagonist though.
@@saucefreakystyle I honestly don't remember anymore, since it has been about 8 years since I've last watched any Misao gameplay of the original game. I have to say I prefer it from the updated version, since the goal of the game was to collect the body parts of Misao. Similarly, I prefer the original Mad Father from the updated game, since the later version kinda destroyed the main antagonist for me.
Something funny about the two characters/genders in the game, is that if you play the female MC *she literally does NOT care about killing the teacher,* at all.
It's somewhat implied that the default (girl) MC is a demon of some sort. Her natural eye color is red, she's pretty chill with murder, will giggle about some students' deaths, and if you play as the male MC and take too long to make a decision, she'll possess him and do it for you. As far as I remember, this is never expanded upon.

Great video! I love Misao, though personally I'm not a fan of how the teacher was 'forgiven' in the end. I think he is a twisted person who deserved much less, but nevertheless I liked the ending overall
Yeah, the whole "this pedophile who murdered multiple children was really sad as a child because people bullied him, now feel sympathy for him" aspect of the story really kind of ruins it for me.
Seriously. At a certain point, a character is beyond forgiveness regardless of tragic backstory. And what about that character who literally bullied and blackmailed Misao with her nudes? Was it explained why she did that (tragic home life or something), because, man, she deserved to rot regardless but especially if it was just for the funsies. 26:12
Misao is a pretty well written game, an RPG maker classic. The only thing that bugs me about the story is that the random NPC who assaults Misao is just able to get away with his crime scott free.
It's funny, I went "Didn't Markiplier play this game?" and I had no memory of anything of it until you said the teacher had a thing for hands... Then it came back, all flooding in.
Please, please keep doing these. I absolutely love the nostalgia of old RPGmaker horror. There's gotta be a huge market for this. Consider doing Corpse Party!
Great video! I would love a video on Mad Father, but I also recommend the game "The Crooked Man" afterwards. It's dark but really good, and in the whole "Indie RPG Horror Maker" genre. It was one of my favorites growing up!
I've never played The Crooked Man but I've heard about it being part of the RPGMaker genre's best, I just added it to my wishlist for later. Thanks for the recc!
Literally just discovered this channel with Ao Oni, i loved watching these games before and enjoy the way you narrate them. I would love to see a Mad Father one, that was always my favorite from the pixel horror games other than the Witch's House.
I played the original version years ago, the story was so f**cked up, it affected my personality and how I see people. A decade later and I could still remember the full details of the story, since I first thought it was just a normal rpgmaker horror game, I was not prepared for that dark twist and how f**ked up it was, it was more f**cked up than the backstory of Sachiko from Corpse Party. when I saw the title of this video, it took me days to finally watch it but then I stopped at the first 10 seconds of the video since it's midnight and I'm already having a hard time sleeping because I remembered the whole plot of this damned game, this game traumatized me that it numb my feelings for other horror games. I don't even know if I could watch the full video without having PTSD...
The main character is proven to a demon or something more from Mr. Oni's view also "Library" is the clone of the protagonist of Mad Father if you remove the glasses it's Aya.
I think my top three RPG maker, horror games would be Blank Dream, Witch’s House, and Misao in that order. Would love to see them all covered at some point!
These story-explained videos of yours are quite entertaining and thorough. You descriptions are much less like typical youtubers and more what I expect from a writer, I like it. Will you make these types of videos for games that are a bit more obscure? As good as Witch's House, Mad Father, etc. are, I feel like they've been covered to death at this point. Yet I see barely anyone talk about my favorite: Purgatory (2).
I might be wrong, but in the original Misao, wasn’t Kudoh killed in the middle of a road by a car? I always thought that was a weird place and way for a character to die in this game. Was it changed and was there a reason for the change?
Oh, the cat is the same cat as before?? For years i misremembered it as the teacher getting reborn as an animal (instead of a human again) as punishment for his vile actions in life, harkening to certain religions where sinful people get reincarnated as animals in their next lives (since they don't deserve the privileges of being a human again after all they did) Kinda sad that's not what actually happened. Whelp. Maybe he went to hell lmao, here's hoping he didn't go to heaven, if there IS a heaven and hell in this game's universe??
Did this game undergo significant changes at a point, or does the game play differently with the male character? Markiplier's playthrough looks different.
Yes you are correct. There is some hints best example from my memory, there's a scene of the female MC having one of her contact lenses out and someone (probably misao) stumbling upon her as she was trying to put the other one in. The color of the eye that doesn't have a contact in is red which is similar to a demon (but i forgot who since this is information that I had learned about a long time ago.
