I think the Reebok Floatride foam is exactly same is Nike’s Zoom X foam which is considered to have more energy return than the React foam. Of course, Prefer to have no foam or minimal foam. I used to be of opinion that higher drop is bad because it limits the ankles range of motion even while walking and the feet are plantar flexed all the time. After years, I come around to think, it’s ok to have a drop for squats so one can move with greater range of motion around the knees and hips and then slowly work to lower that heel drop until it reaches reaches zero. I have not change my opinion that greater mobility is better and that we should work towards that.
@@thatfitfriend This foam is manufactured by Arkema. Better known as Nike Zoom X, Reebok Floatride and Saucony Endorphin. Does that mean you can bounce higher in Reebok Nano X2 than Nike Metcon 7? well, the Nano X2 has a 7mm drop. To me, that means u’re using 3-4 mm less muscle propulsion to drive yourself up because the feet are steeply plantar flex when they’re flat on the ground. Yet, another reason heel drops are bad. i know there are people who prefer having a drop and i get it. but if the Nano X2 was zero drop, you would be bouncing through the ceiling.

Awesome in-depth review. I feel like these two shoes have changed much over the last 4 years it's almost like they have gone in different directions. Curious you're thoughts on the Reign 4 compared to these two.
A ton! After the CrossFit contract ended, Reebok shifted gears to create more general training shoes, which is both a good and bad thing depending on how you see it. I really love the Nanos until the X, but since the X1 the nanos are trying to be a "training shoe" and not a "crossfit shoe". Maybe its time for metcons...
Yeah, I think the big thing to remember with the X1 and X2 is that they "can" technically work for some casual CrossFit training, but they're much better suited as general trainers these days!

I ordered and got my metcon 7s last week and tried them on at home for a longer period. On my first wear my feet started to hurt at around 10 minutes bcs of the tightness. It happened to me on my second and third try-on again. For size I already went up 1/2 a size than my usual shoe size and I tied them with normal pressure. I would rate my feet on the smaller side regarding the build. Anyone had also the issue with the metcon 7s and did the Nano fit better in that regard?
Hey, Michael! Not super surprised if they feel tight. Metcons (and most Nikes for that matter) can be pretty hit or miss in regard to width in the toe box and tightness for some foot anatomies. The Nano will definitely give you more room through the toe box and with the volume of the upper!
@@thatfitfriend Thanks for the reply. I really appreciate that you answer the comments although you posted them some time ago. Ordered the Nano now and will collect them the coming week. I hope they will fit me better (despite looking not that sleek :D ).
Update: I don´t feel like the nano fit me better. in what the metcons were too small, the nanos feel too large. I got them in size 42 and I think the nanos would fit me better half a shoe size smaller, but they only have half sizes from size 42 upwards. Do you have experience with the metcon flyknit schoes? maybe they are better for me bcs of the sock-like fit over the sturdy mesh on the regular metcons. I don´t need them to be as tough anyway, just to lift some weights and being not shitty for cardio.
If someone want to buy one more than shoes ok have a metcon 7 is good but for me if someone start to do crossfit I suggest nano because it is more versatile if you want run you can and for weithlifting is ok not like metcon but is good
So I had metcons a few years ago, but have stuck to more running-type shoes the last few years because I found the metcons we're just too narrow/tight. I've also heard that the nanos have a wider, more comfortable build. Anyone have insights on if nanos are better for wider feet?
You hit the nail on the head! Generally speaking, Nanos will deliver a slightly wider build compared to the Metcon so if you like a wider last with a higher profile boot, then I think you'd enjoy the Nano training shoe line. Highly suggest trying on before buying though to ensure their fit does work for you since the Metcon models were a miss!

Thinking out loud here - I kind of miss the Free x Metcon 1/2 sock fit with a toe box that stretched wider. They somehow accomplished that without a lot of laces or fly wire. Someone like Altra or inov8 should make a really wide toebox model with a TPU raised heel for CrossFit/Oly/Powerlifting. Seems to be missing for those of us that wear barefoot/wide toebox shoes normally and have a lot of toe splay. Can get away with wider toes on the NanoX1 (and likely by extension X2) due to stretchy upper but I can feel the edges of the insole insert under my outer toes, LOL.
Haha, the OG Free X Metcon was a legendary day-to-day shoe. Orrrrrr some new company should make a weightlifting shoe that tackles the clear misses in the industry atm.
@@thatfitfriend I love that idea. I still need “hybrid” lifters - for one thing, the floor of my home gym is too rough/uneven for hard-soled lifters. But also, I barely want to walk around the room in those. Anything on my toes or plyo or other stuff that doesn’t involve lifting a barbell? I’m going to change shoes!
Awesome review buddy!! One thing I was wondering as I sccroll through the comments - if Reebok's X series are more general trainers wouldn't it be more proper to then comapre the Metcon to other more Crossfit minded shoes, like NoBulls? 🤔Just a thought
Thank you! 100%. I do a lot of those comparisons on my site, but I have so many folks that ask about the Metcon versus Nano series that I like to make videos discussing the two. Plus, I think it's important to help folks understand that the Nano line has really fallen off for CrossFit and the Metcon should be the go-to if you're debating the two for that context. I have a couple of Best CrossFit and Best Cross-Training shoe videos coming out in September, which should also tackle this ask well. Thank you for the suggestion - much appreciated, sir!
It really depends what you're after! Different drops are not necessarily better or worse alone by themselves, however, they can be better/worse in conjunction with your anatomy and what promotes better form. Both models will work. I like the Metcon 7 a bit more, but the Nano X2 can hold its own up to about 405 lbs, especially if you have wider feet!

If someone want to buy one more than shoes ok have a metcon 7 is good but for me if someone start to do crossfit I suggest nano because it is more versatile if you want run you can and for weithlifting is ok not like metcon but is good
Sorry for my english 😁
No apologies necessary! Thank you for sharing your insights here!
@@thatfitfriend Nice, thank you! Just bookmarked your Nano x vs x1 vs x2 video to watch next. Btw, your reviews are insanely thorough and helpful. I need you to make reviews for like a dozen more product categories 😅
@@DavidRamosAuthor Awesome! Shout if you have any additional questions.
Haha, I already have imposter syndrome most days and I've been reviewing shoes and coaching for years - idk if new product cats would help that, but I appreciate the feedback! :p
Do you wear the same size on both?
I do, but I could probably get away with sizing down a half size on the Nano X2!
@@thatfitfriend thank you! Just making sure because the last time I own a nano I had to size up .5”, but that was like the Nano 2 I think😅
@@Tony_tones welcome! The Nano X2 runs a little big so true to size or down should work depending on your foot and width!
Which one is better for squat? Maybe nano because the 7mm instead of 4?
It really depends what you're after! Different drops are not necessarily better or worse alone by themselves, however, they can be better/worse in conjunction with your anatomy and what promotes better form.
Both models will work. I like the Metcon 7 a bit more, but the Nano X2 can hold its own up to about 405 lbs, especially if you have wider feet!
👍✌👌✋
X2☄
Nano X2 = Nike metcon flyknit
I can see that with the design!
X2 > Metcon7
!!!! I’m curious where most folks land on this one 🤔
Hello from Ukraine, friend, I don’t understand English well, I often use a translator. which option would be better for the gym. for strength training and walking on a treadmill. nano 2? or metcon 8?
All good!
Nano!
