Puni has revitalized this O-line. CMC being out changes the offensive focus away from easy RB-YAC. What do yuo know. . . Purdy IS elite. He is dealing.
That was never the focus. Brock was 2nd in the NFL in air yards per attempt last season. People who thought CMC was that important to the 49er offense never had any clue what they were talking about. Every RB can succeed in the OZS. That's why it's the only scheme teams use now.

Also, OZS is not the only scheme teams use. The Lions, Eagles, Chiefs, etc primarily use a gap scheme. But because it's a copycat league, there are no "pure" systems. On that Kittle TD catch 18:28 post game George said that he was not the biggest fan of this particular play call, he said this play had only been practiced from 40 yds. + out of the endzone
21:34 This season is so interesting. Brian Flores has put the entire nfl on notice with how he is disguising coverages, but also there are so many new faces in different defensive coaching staffs that I believe everyone is trying to reinvent defense along the Flores lines to keep up with the explosive plays we saw last season from the Niners and other Shanahan schemes. This look here is almost an inverted Tampa 2 to combat the Niners favorite play with the Aiyuk dig, post combo. They essentially try to throw off the QB by showing the middle field closed with the three high defenders, “eliminating the post” pre-snap but in reality that middle safety is just replacing the job of the mid high zone LB that would normally have to fly back and find the dig with his back to the QB. It’s smart because they know that Purdy has taken the dig in that “third window” over the open post in the past, and he can sometimes lose the safety if he is confident with his presnap looks. It’s unfortunate for everyone else that he is improving so substantially week after week.
29:24 they keep trying to take away the in-cutting routes and begging Purdy to bomb it deep but you can’t keep doing that if there’s no rush and the QB is as ice cold as Purdy, man. Sheesh
30:52 this defense is very interesting, man. It’s like they tailor it to each DB’s strong suit, which is cool, but it can get stretched easily since the safeties have to read the in cuts and they only have one shutdown man corner in Gonzalez. It’s nice in concept but not against such a loaded roster.
On that pick, kyle said that peppers was supposed to go with kittle and aiyuk woulda been open for the touchdown, but peppers just bails on his assignment and makes a play. Unfortunate, but I love that Purdy threw that ball with confidence, if thing go normally, thats a touchdown.
18:48 Kittle said he had to double check the call with Brock and questioned the play. Normally, it's an out and up they call from the 40 yard line. Idk, seems to me like Shanahan overthinks the redzone without CMC.
total blown call by ref. He was 100% set. That was one of the worst overall performances by a ref team Ive seen in awhile. They screwed over NE with bad calls too.
On the deep ball to deebo. Middle field safety is sitting on the Dover route. The last time they ran this play it went to Juan Jennings running across the middle. Coaches noticed it, Purdy threw it.
Watching your videos always makes me feel better about my frustrations with the Niners offense. Im not saying Im an OC or anything but im shocked with Kittle and Juaun that we havent run them on fade routes where they can just outjump/outmuscle the person covering them

On that kittle TD he said postgame that his route was supposed to be an out and up and that he was really confused by the call. I think that explains why he ran a sort of weird corner
No, 19:53 view behind the QB, watch how Purdy's feet line up as he drops back. He already decided to throw to Kittle well before 99 drops (likely pre-snap).
I think the reason Purdy didn't hit deebo and instead threw to kittle was the pressure off the right side and the DB lurking by the goal line also on the right side. With the pressure close and having to throw middle/middle right of his body his arm could be hit a lot easier without a guaranteed TD so going deep left corner gave him the perfect amount of time to throw that lob. Also its kittle so I'd trust him for a jump ball. That's why Brocks awesome cause he's risky when he needs to be
As a former QB, it's hilarious to me how fans think that all this thought is happening while playing QB in a matter of 2-3 seconds when it's really more of a read and react. A lot of where you're going to throw is based on pre-snap look and then reading your keys. One thing Jimmy G did is to start the play looking the opposite side of the side he was going to throw to. He would literally practice that. He had no idea if it actually worked or not (which is why he threw so many INTs to LBs and Safeties). Sometimes QBs pump fake without knowing if the CB is actually looking because the CB has shown on tape that he'll peek in the backfield and bite on fakes.
At 6 min the coverage you were asking about is 4 Meg. Fangio free calls it Pounder. It's like 2 Man except the Safeties are playing Quarters instead of Halves. To help vs all the in breakers.. At 9:30 I'm pretty sure Shanahan is just trying to be cute. It's a constraint play on one of his go to Red Zone concepts he calls Pile. #1 runs the Now route and #2 pushes up and runs to the front Pylon. Like a flat 7 route. Looks like Jennings was trying to sell the Pile route and takes it vertical. There's just not enough room
Love watching you channel, JT. I'm totally with you on that stalled drive on the 3. No one in the damn end zone. Wth? Happens too much. But wouldn't the counter to that be three step drop and snap throw?
JT, that Kittle TD. Go watch the post game interview. His route was an Out N' Up. Kittle basically called Kyle an idiot cause Kittle wasn't expecting to hear that play called cause of the amount of real estate that was left.
Yeah, McCaffrey’s out for a month, and that really sucks. But at least I don’t have to hear complaints about him going into motion 5 yards behind the line of scrimmage
Love your analysis. On the Brock knock-down pass at 4:55 if he checked it to Mason he likely would have housed it. Purdy is a legend in the making, though. Go UCD Aggies BTW!
20:00 looks like there just wasn't a good enough window to get it to Deebo on that play. There's a linebacker dropping after his rush and a big old DT ready to get his hand in the air and cause a tip-and-pick
Only thing on that second play I see is perhaps Cowing is supposed to bring that route a bit more flat. He seems to round that off towards the safety and loses another 2 yards of cushion. Not a great read either way but if the route isn't rounded that's more likely a completion. Love the videos JT, a highlight of my week for sure.
21:08 And that is *exactly* why Shanahan called this play. The Niners saw on multiple plays earlier in the game that middle safeties or others in a similar role were cheating down onto the crossing routes and ignoring the deep post routes in those concepts, so clearly they had Purdy look for those opportunities later. The Patriots' defense clearly game-planned to focus attention onto the deep crossing routes that the Niners run a lot, especially when it was Aiyuk running them. That's a big reason why Peppers dropped back to be in position for that interception at the end - once he saw there was nothing coming deep from his own side, he was prepped to drop deep and cross-key in case someone like Aiyuk was coming from the other side on a crossing route. That's also what was going on with the coverage at 27:54. It was an inverted Tampa-2, with the corners playing the deep halves and the safeties in the intermediate middle - again, to focus on those crossing routes.
On 3rd and goal from 3...is Brock essentially throwing it away with pressure in his face? Everyone's covered so he slings where if his guy can make an amazing grab, it's a TD...otherwise nobody touches it.

I think the Kittle, hand movment directing Jennings was counted as two men in motion and resulted in the TD cancelled by penalty. Not sure but the penality was for 2 men in motion at the same time.
@The QB School - JT - On the TD play to Juice that didnt count, why was there an illegal shift call? Jennings was set long enough before Purdy snapped it. Most people agreed that should not be a flag. Thanks.
at 9:30, and correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't it look like they are trying to fake a "rub route" (not sure that is the terminology) to make the defenders maybe switch or something like that?
1st play - 2nd and 2 - 7:41 1st Quarter >Interesting that it seemed Purdy opened his shoulders aggressively left multiple times in the game. It almost looked unnatural. 3rd and 3 ---- 2:34 1st Quarter >Protection? Why did LG Banks chip towards the center and leave the RB to pick up the LB 4th rusher ? That’s the part that puzzles me. Agree the route concepts seemed lazy, but seems like they saw something on film maybe that Patriots over-react to shallow goal line routes and Jennings would pop open - and it didn’t work 😊 Other team plays too 😊 But you are right, other routes were lazy conceptually.
JT, the kittle td deebo turndown, does 95?(over the LG) come off his pass rush and get in the throwing lane of the "shin'" route? Do you think purdy sees him abort and drop into coverage?
@ 9:32... 3rd down in the redzone... dude, I don't get it either... I was just a HS QB 40+ years ago, granted, but damn... whatever "it" is might explain their lack of results in the red zone this year. They definitely need to rethink this area.
Some of it is missing CMC. He's such a huge weapon in the RZ. He's a treat to run or sneak out after play action. Teams can sell out with CMC not currently playing.
@@coreymunroe8073 yeah, I get that part but three of the four eligibles being short of the endzone is mind boggling. The field already gets compressed in the red zone, why artificially compress it even further? It even makes it tougher for Purdy to scramble if it came to that.
@@gfrerking The play design of Kyle, he likes to isolate receivers. On the miss to JJ, that's why Deebo is sitting short of the goal line. And he has a lot of confidence that the 49ers receivers can make that first guy miss to get an extra yard or two for the 1st or TD. Could also be the receivers just not getting the proper depth. But I'd lean more towards the trust in a broken tackle leading to extra yards.
@@coreymunroe8073 idk... neither of us can read Kyle's mind... and I'm definitely a pro-Kyle person... but the left three-quarters of the endzone doesn't have to be empty to isolate JJ deep in the right quarter of the EZ. At least ONE of those other three should have been deeper, imo.
Regarding the Kittle TD, Kittle said postgame that it wasn’t a corner route, it was actually an out-and-up. He also said that even he questioned the play call in the huddle (making sure Purdy heard right), because that’s a play generally called outside of the red zone with more space downfield. In any case, it was a play designed to go to him, just at a funky part of the field where that play generally isn’t called

Can’t keep ignoring OT in the draft anymore. And the scary part is that he’s apparently the teams best option at RT. He’d be a backup on several other teams
Were In the phase the Purdy haters try and subtly acknowledge until they can jump onto the support side and pretend they were there all along. He’s so dope. So fucking good. Don’t overthink it and if he sucked tomorrow then don’t ignore it to be consistent again (grant).
I think I can speak for everyone when I say we are waiting for that geno smith week 4 video
Double robber in the redzone on the kittle scramble play
I think the Kittle, hand movment directing Jennings was counted as two men in motion and resulted in the TD cancelled by penalty. Not sure but the penality was for 2 men in motion at the same time.
they said it was them not getting set before the snap.
Missed opportunity to say, all the avengers haven't been assembled @8:00 😂
Purdy is SO good!!🏈🏈
Shady hating on Purdy.... let them know he's top 5 bro and btw Purdy > Stafford
dude no. Stafford is better. come on. this is delusion. and im a 49ers fan
@@penoyer79 look at the stats buddy and he outplayed Stafford last game. Career wise Stafford but he's old now ...give me Purdy right now
@@penoyer79 Purdy has outplayed Stafford this season and last don't give me excuses about injuries be an actual 9er fan
@@penoyer79delusional niner fan
@@dylanaustin5234 ask 100 non-niner fans whos better and no less than 95 of them will say Stafford.
WR did line up on that call back to FB.
@The QB School - JT - On the TD play to Juice that didnt count, why was there an illegal shift call? Jennings was set long enough before Purdy snapped it. Most people agreed that should not be a flag. Thanks.
I would love a QB school on Kurtis Rourke from Indiana
19:50 elite
So how much is Purdy getting this offseason? Can’t be less than 60/y
I wish he did the last game where him and Juan went off
I only come here for Brock Purdy analysis 🔥
Everyone loves that SD hat 🤠
Enjoying the padres gear!! Lessgo
at 9:30, and correct me if I am wrong, but doesn't it look like they are trying to fake a "rub route" (not sure that is the terminology) to make the defenders maybe switch or something like that?
At 3:04, the 2 LB's look like Madden AI
1st play - 2nd and 2 - 7:41 1st Quarter
>Interesting that it seemed Purdy opened his shoulders aggressively left multiple times in the game. It almost looked unnatural.
3rd and 3 ---- 2:34 1st Quarter
>Protection? Why did LG Banks chip towards the center and leave the RB to pick up the LB 4th rusher ? That’s the part that puzzles me. Agree the route concepts seemed lazy, but seems like they saw something on film maybe that Patriots over-react to shallow goal line routes and Jennings would pop open - and it didn’t work 😊 Other team plays too 😊 But you are right, other routes were lazy conceptually.
Brendel makes sure no one blames him, he is the one supposed to call these protections. He calls wrong protections all game
JT, the kittle td deebo turndown, does 95?(over the LG) come off his pass rush and get in the throwing lane of the "shin'" route? Do you think purdy sees him abort and drop into coverage?
How was JJ not lined up on the kittle play? Looks like he comes to the LOS, stops for a sec and then the ball gets snapped
5:18 Conley didn't cut in sharp enough. That should have been a catch, a tough one but a catch nonetheless.
Watching this I actually starting feeling bad for the New England O Line. They almost looked like they didn't want to be there.
... assume you mean their D line?
Regarding the Kittle TD, Kittle said postgame that it wasn’t a corner route, it was actually an out-and-up. He also said that even he questioned the play call in the huddle (making sure Purdy heard right), because that’s a play generally called outside of the red zone with more space downfield. In any case, it was a play designed to go to him, just at a funky part of the field where that play generally isn’t called
What is a hook and curl, is it just the central regions? (sorry I am from across the pond).
Juice was wide open on the other side. Just waiting in the clear
why no uploads this week? I was looking forward to a lamar jackson vs bengals analysis
