OUTSTANDING!! I grew up listening to them. I learned to play by listening to "Play The Electric Guitar With The Ventures and Play The Electric Bass With The Ventures, All on vinyl
That would be the legendary Mel Taylor! He played drums with The Ventures from, if I remember right, 1963 until he sadly passed away in 1996. Would highly recommend you look up one of The Ventures' performances of Wipe Out to see some excellent drum playing from him!
Another riff in the first few moments of the video, and throughout the first song, that has been lborrowed” by Jimmy Page (live Dazed and Confused, if you didn’t spot it). Amazing footage by the way. Great share 👍
I was a huge Ventures fan since early 60's. My stepdaughters' grandfather was Howie Johnston, drummer from 1960-1962, until he hurt his back in a car accident. He wore a back brace but was unable to continue touring after a while. RIP Howie and Don.
Man my dad played the Ventures a lot when I was growing up in the 70s and I loved it. I’m not a diehard like dad was but I still just love their sound! They are just tearing it up here. The guitars on Bulldog are just awesome and that bass! Seriously, I’ll bet almost every shredding guitar player had to be influenced by the Ventures!
my pops would play the Ventures all the time, it inspired me to play guitar because he played a 12 string and he can PLAY. Dick Dale knows what he's doin.
Pure magic! No pedals, just reverb and loud Fender amps, oh and talent too! I love the Ventures! The drums are fantastic and such a small set. We can all learn from the Ventures. Best band of all time? Maybe. Certainly the most influential.
Besides the Ventures who were no.1 on my list my other early influences included the Surfaris the Lively Ones the Chantays and of course the Beach Boys.
these guys were the perfect storm as far as guitar rock for their era goes. imagine 4 guys that just happened to meet at THAT specific moment in time and created a genre that is still celebrated today. and yes, my appreciation comes from having listened to my dad's collection and hearing him play along with the music also.
@@davidschecter5247 Randy Bachman references the Shadows frequently when he talks about guitars. I keep meaning to dig into their music but haven't gotten around to it yet.
The Ventures gave me my start in R&R so many decades ago, and I might add, if you ever get the chance to play a Mosrite guitar, you'll know how they could play so well
These guys were Gods to me when I was a kid learning guitar, Mel Taylor the drummer was the brother of Larry Taylor the bassist for the Canned Heat, both very successful and great at what they played. I'm more of a bassist now and still palm mute on the bass with a pick sometimes because of learning these songs when I was a kid on guitar.
Never could understand why fender didn’t have a venture - strat guitar line ….they did almost as much for fender as les Paul did for Gibson in terms of selling guitars
Hard to believe that Bob Bogle moved from lead guitar to bass. He really owns it here, which reminds me of one Paul McCartney. I'm sure any one of these guys could have moved to any great "superband" of the late 60s, but they stuck together.
OUTSTANDING!! I grew up listening to them. I learned to play by listening to "Play The Electric Guitar With The Ventures and Play The Electric Bass With The Ventures, All on vinyl
I have the guitar album in my collection. It was released on the Dolton record label in 1964. It's a unique recording.😊

That drummer is mesmerizing.

Mel Taylor. The best of the best😊
He was mesmerized for sure haha :D He looks like onyly one having fun there. Haha. I love Ventures. Such a good music.
Incredible footage, young and in their prime, all of them gone now, thank you for posting, excellent.
The classic Ventures lineup of Don, Bob, Nokie😊 and Mel, with their trademark Mosrite guitars!
With just three guitars and a drum they created magic.
Their music encompassed all that the 60's was about

The Ventures with their Mosrite guitars. What an iconic image.
Thank you. I was wondering what kind of guitars they were playing.

Just incredibly disciplined playing - the Mosrites sound awesome. Massive talent, friggin boatload of fun. Thanks for sharing this
Gonna miss you Don
I was crazy about this band when I was a young teenager. The drummer, wow.
As opposed to when you were an old teenager. Then you weren't so taken by this band.
One can only admire the set up of this band with a lead drummer... on the left side. The energy of this band is frickin' awesome! Instant FAN!!!
Sayonara .
How good these guys play! How nice to see and hear them!
RIP Don…. Thanks for the amazing music!
Fantastic Player's,
Top Class The Drummer.
I still play this vinyl album recorded in Japan .

Damn this version of slaughter on 10th avenue hits!! Nokie makes it look effortless too, what a legend
Fantastic !!

The spring 63 is a pedal, bro
You have to throw the Shadows into the mix. They influenced pretty much every band in the British Invasion.
Don't forget the Mosrite Ventures models they're playing.
REST IN PEACE. DON WILSON 😥

I would add The Shadows in there. They were HUGE in the UK, influencing every rock group of the 1950s and 60s. And started out in 1958.

Straight up shredding at the end!
You can fit a lot of songs inside 15 minutes and 38 seconds when you play them twice the speed.
way way way too fast - band cannot keep up with drummer on speed - japanese must not know how the songs really sound like after all these decades

They played mostly Fenders though, before and after the mid sixties when Mosrite probably sponsored them.
So, this is where Japan got the inspiration for all that NES game music. I'm getting Double Dragon vibes.
Megaman 2 OST sound a lot like this, specially Diamond Head and The Cruel Sea
