The production of his videos doesn't attract enough 14-year-olds. If he did funny faces and dad jokes with annoying editing he would probably have way more. You don't need to be virtuoso to make your channel blow up, you need to be also a memer and a clown these days. Sometimes you don't need to even be virtuoso, like Steve Terreberry. The guy isn't even that good of a guitarist but look at his channel, 1.5 million subs. Jared Dines for example is way better musician that his videos suggest. He makes jokes using his skills, millions of subs. Playthroughs are for a marginal audience like ourselves who are interested in little things and details in playing, technique, gear, tone and shit.
