    This isn't really the greatest cast iron pan out there, but for the price, it's really quite nice.

    Smooth or rough has nothing to do with food sticking.

    Not cooking pancakes in it? I have one like this and cooks pancakes perfectly in it. ^^ My family for some reason prefers me using the one cast iron grill pan to cook my pancakes in than regular pans.

    Those types of pans are good for cooking steaks and pork chops in, but not for bacon and eggs.

    They both have their advantages, old and new. Cost and accessibility is a prime advantage of modern lodge.

    Just read up on the chemicals that get into your body from Teflon pans. So I just ordered some cast iron. I got the 12 inch round grill pan and a 12 in skillet with a lid, hopefully it works on both. Thanks for the vid

    I have this one. It's good. I should have let my steak cook longer. It didn't turn out as good as I'd hoped. That was my fault, though.

    Yep, the Lodge is now textured to accept the three coats of factory applied seasoning. Modern cooks have forgotten that cast iron needs to be seasoned EVERY time it’s used. Period. The old pans accepted the fact the users knew how to season a pan, hence they were smooth as a baby’s behind. Don’t overheat the pan and it will cook just fine. Cheers!

    I use a plastic Bondo spreader. You can usually get a 3 pack at Advance Auto or any auto parts store for just a couple of bucks.

      Eva Flowers came out quite well, actually! Of course I had to coat it with some Crisco, then bake for a while.. 🤷🏼‍♀️

      YES!!! EXACTLY what you should do with this rough Lodge “smooth” surface cast iron cookware!!!👍🏻👍🏻They take seasoning so much faster this way.

      @@Standswithamiddlefinger Can you sand the one shown here with ridges though?

    • @Standswithamiddlefinger
      @Standswithamiddlefinger 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@eatingwithselina8482, yes. I did not like how rough the actual cooking surface (raised part of pan bottom) was so I took it down to bare metal with a palm sander (60 grit). I then re-seasoned it. The smoothed surface took the seasoning quickly.

    I just bought one myself. Got it from SuperStore for $30. I still have to wash it. They advise hot soapy water. It guess because that it's enamel coated, although the inside is bare iron, but have to wash the manufacturer oil off. Are these any good for bacon?

    • @phototristan
      @phototristan  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Bad Drivers of Moose Jaw I believe it's just factory seasoned not enamel coated. So you should be able to just wash it lightly and go ahead and use it immediately. Yes I use mine for bacon along with a cast iron bacon press, works well.

      @baddriversofmoosejaw8681 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Gave it a try. I like grilled bacon. It's really good. Will keep using it. May season it eventually.

    i got the round version just so i dont have to buy another lid in a weird size. my 5 quart pot lids fit it perfectly. also, when i grill meat in it, i'd fill a small 3 quart pot half way with hot water, then put it on top of the meat to press down. freaking awesome pan! i know i wont ever get a smooth surface due to the ridges, but its my go-to for grilling. for de-glazing, i never use wine, always stock so it doesnt react with the metal, then transfer to a stainless steel sauce pan and add wine at that point.

    Does Lodge make their pans textured instead of smooth because it’s cheaper to manufacture them that way? Just about every CI video I see in TH-cam mentions that they don’t like the textured Lodge finish.

    • @phototristan
      @phototristan  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes, the smooth ones have an extra machining/sanding step that is done to them.
