True!! Be it OP, ED or Insert songs, all of them are such bangers that I can't get them out of my head. And the best thing probably is the way they used these songs to set the pace of show and create suspense. It instantly makes the experience 100× better.
Am I going crazy or does that sound at 3:49 - 3:55 remind me of the opening of each episode with the 3D Cheng Xiaoshi, Lu Guang, and Qiao Ling taking photos of them? Also I swear at the end I hear a creepy distorted voice repeating the word "pain" over and over again. 😨I'm wondering if this song is sort of representative of the twins and Qian Jin? Based on the PV and also the lyrics. Like "I put my life on the edge/I battle the demon inside of my head" could apply to all three of them: Qian Jin battling the "demon" that is basically his own jealousy and paranoia that led to him murdering his wife and unborn child out of the mistaken belief she was cheating on him, Tianchen battling the "demon" that is his urge to kill and perhaps Liu Xiao who first set him on his path of destruction, and poor Tianxi who is battling the "demon" (aka her brother) who possesses her and uses her power to kill people against her wishes. 0:42 I'm less certain of "Can't let it go until it dies/When I first started ain't nobody cared" but perhaps how Qian Jin couldn't let go of his jealousy and paranoia until he killed his wife, and the twins (pretty much just Tianchen actually) couldn't let go of his building rage and helplessness until he murdered their father and inadvertently their mother. And for all three, at first "nobody cared", no one really investigated the incidents and had they stopped right then and there they, unfortunately, probably would've gotten away with it. Well, maybe not so "unfortunately" for their father he was an abusive dickhead that deserved a far more painful death for what he did (which, ironically, was also out of jealousy and the delusion that his wife was being unfaithful). 0:59 "Her sin burns like fire and that's what he desires" could again apply to all three. Qian Jin's wife's "sin" of cheating (even though she didn't cheat) burned her when he killed her which is what he desired. The twins' mother's "sin" of not doing more to protect her children, not taking them and running away with them before things could escalate to the point where their father threatened to kill them and did end up killing their mother. Or even poor Qiao Ling's "sin" of stabbing Lu Guang even though she was possessed at the time and couldn't have helped it at all, but it probably still "burns" and she feels guilty even if it's not her fault, and that's probably what Tianchen "desires". Heck, it could even refer to Emma in a way since she was technically an accomplice to Mr. Zhu's forgery and embezzlement of the company's funds. Or it could apply to poor Tianxi herself, because she is being used by her brother ("what he desires") to kill people when she doesn't want to ("her sin burns like fire"). 1:05 "What the is time(?) when the system's broken" referring to how the justice system is corrupt maybe since Qian Jin and wealthy people like Liu Min and his father Mr. Liu seem to easily exploit it and use money to evade punishment for the crimes they've committed. Likewise the system is broken because poor Tianchen, Tianxi, and their mother suffered at the hands of their abusive father and no one really noticed or helped her (except for that one neighbor but by then it was sadly too late, also apparently he was one of the ones that spread the rumors of their mother cheating which is partly what caused their father to become abusive). I say "partly" because even though the rumors are what spurred him on, abusers don't just become abusers out of nowhere. Often there is an abusive personality that predisposes them to becoming abusive, and all it really takes is an excuse so even if it weren't for the rumors the father likely would've become abusive anyway for some other reason. 1:10 "He tries to fight the urge/Of an evil so unspoken" = Qian Jin fought against his jealousy and paranoia initially and tried to trust his wife I think, but he caved in the end and killed her anyway. The "evil so unspoken" being his jealousy and mistaken belief that she was cheating on him which he never spoke of or even gave her the chance to try and explain. Or the "urge" Tianchen seems to feel to kill others (apparently for fun?) and the unspoken evil that is, well, the urge to kill. Though he doesn't seem to really try to fight this urge to kill so maybe not idk. 1:16 "Sinking low now/The light is all around him like a/Deep deep hole now" Less certain but I'll give it a shot. Qian Jin and Li Tianchen have sunken very low, killing people for... money, I guess? At least in Qian Jin's case it seems likely. Tianchen idk maybe because like above he gets a kick out of it, like it makes him feel "strong", makes him the "predator" instead of the "prey". Not sure what "the light is all around him like a deep deep hole now" could mean but again it goes with the whole imagery of the two of them sinking lower and lower. 1:37 "And there's nothing I can do/And there's nothing I can say/No there's no running away/From the darkness and the pain" = There's nothing any of them can do to take back the sins they've committed. Qian Jin can't undo the murder of his wife, and Tianchen can't undo the killing of his father and (accidentally) mother. Well, not without Cheng Xiaoshi that is, which is why they want him so badly I think. To go back and fix things so Qian Jin's wife doesn't cheat in him and he doesn't kill her (even though, again, she never cheated on him) and to prevent the death of the twins' mother and maybe find a way to rescue the three of them from their abusive father (and thus also prevent Tianchen from being adopted by Qiao Jin and becoming a psychopathic murderer thereby also undoing all the deaths of the people he killed including Emma's. But without Xiaoshi, there is literally nothing they can do nor say to change things or lessen the weight of their sins. They have to live with their regrets which is a major theme it seems in the show. And there's no running away either from the darkness they've mired themselves in, the blood on their hands, and the pain of everything that has happened to them and everything they've done. 2:19 "Got me swimming with the sharks/With nowhere open" = how they are "swimming", running in dangerous circles with "sharks" like Liu Min and his father. Wealthy and powerful people that've hired them to kill others. Now that they've done so, there's no turning back. As they say, there's no leaving the mafia, or other organized crime like basically becoming hitmen. There is "nowhere open" for them to go, they've chosen to tread this treacherous path and now they're stuck on it. 2:25 "It cuts like a knife/And that's what we called life" = again they are all three stuck on this path and no matter how painful or how it "cuts like a knife" there's no escaping the lives they've chosen, no running from the "darkness and the pain". "And that's what we call life", because that is their lives, and maybe also it's meant to show their pessimistic worldview that life sucks, the world is full of awful people where the strong eat the weak, and that's just life, nothing can be done about it. It's survival of the fittest. That's the idea that Liu Xiao planted in Tianchen's head when he was still an impressionable young child and he's held to that tenet all these years. 2:30 "Can I get it right this time?/Yet the system's broken" = they see Cheng Xiaoshi as their chance to fix all their regrets, to "get it right this time", but the "system" is still broken. There's no saying whether or not things would be fixed even if Xiaoshi DID go into the past and change things. As Lu Guang always says, they have no way of knowing how the future might change because of their actions. It could be better or it could be worse. Qian Jin and Tianchen are gambling on "better" but they can't know for sure. 2:36 "I'm swallowed up inside/By an evil so unspoken" = they are being swallowed by their sins. By their Envy and Wrath, respectively. And poor Tianxi is just getting swallowed up too despite not having done anything wrong, getting dragged down with her brother.
