In Half-Life, he only observes Gordon, but never intervenes nor helps him in any way. In Opposing Force, he saves Shephard's life, as seen at 0:55. In Blue Shift, he pays no attention to Barney Calhoun whatsoever, as if he doesn't even consider him worthy of being observed to see how he handles himself in the midst of chaos, like he crossed him out in advance as a potential candidate. Considering the events of Half-Life 2, I'd say Shephard is the luckiest one, since he hasn't been seen or heard of ever since G-Man put him on ice.
