Thanx for that right question at 20:46 about the limitation of only about 16 step for a 2020's secuencer. Mc groovebox contained already in 93 a 64 step sequencer which should be a minimum/standard amount for the Minilogue these days in my humble opinion!
Robin, Bo and Luke together for the first time! Luke is one of the best factory demo reps for any brand. Thanks for spending time on the digital engine and sequencer. Well done!
Great demonstration of the XD'. I think the XD will be a great companion to the Prologue users. Every time I see a demo of the multi engine oscillator I lose the whole weekend making patches on the Prologue with the custom multi engine oscillators I already have.
well done guys...keepin' it real. I share your sentiment Bo, about the sequencer length, and I also acknowledge the practical application of having a more manageable "loop" which brings me to the question: When is a series of notes/sounds, a sequence/pattern/loop/song/part? This is a gr8 sounding synth and the combo of 2 analogue and the digital oscillator + effects makes it really tempting...added to my list
I can't help but think how much better this synth would be if you had patch points for all of those controls like shaping, wave type to it could be controlled externally. Sounds great, though.
Been considering the Behringer Model D, or Neutron or Roland SE-02 to supplement my existing synth lineup. But I think this blows all of the boutiques and modulars away (including the Moog clone- sorry, it just does). And truthfully, having keys to play on the machine itself takes it over the top. Higher price point I know, but I’ll wait and save for this gem. All because IT SOUNDS AMAZING!!!!
I hope Thomann will start shipping Minilogue XD soon. It's such a long time youtube videos show this synth that sooner or later a new product will replace the attention it has gained until now.
I'm already gonna buy one but if the sequencer had 64 steps and the ability to tie steps instead of only rest, I would already own one by now! Still an awesome synth, nonetheless!
If they would just add a five-way switch so we can program 4 16-step sequences individually and then let us switch to the 'now play everything in a row' mode. Problem solved right? But I'm no synth builder, maybe that's easier said then done.
22:31 - Well put Bo - ''In 2019 how hard would it have been to have manufactured & included one additional button that cycled through 16, 32, 48 & 64 Step options with a LED?'' I like the sound of the XD but consider this should have been a feature.
Totally. Also how hard would have been to include the microtuning code in the Prololgue firmware? The Prologue doesn't support simultaneous reverb+delay, although it would be perfectly possible to do since it has the same processor as the Minilogue XD
I agree. I wish there were more steps. I don't think there are any step options beyond 16. You are stuck at 16 steps in total or less. You have to change the step length instead or slow down the tempo to trick more steps.
Speaking of its 16 note sequencer, what about Korg coming out with a universal hardware sequencer. This would effectively be a hardware midi recorder / looper, with either banks of lit buttons or a screen to manage your sequence with some way to save your sequences to export to a daw. It would of course be compatible with the korg range.
Thank you now I understand the sequencer and how to listen to each OSC. XD module new to me yesterday, love it. I connect it to my Arturia Keylab essential 88 as I had for Spitfire BBC SO Pro plug in. If you wanted to get a better sequencer what would you suggest MR BoBeats
Bo, it would be nice if you made a video explaining exactly what the different algorithms in each VPM type are (what's the carrier wave and the modulator wave, etc), as well as the parameters (shape, shift-shape and the other 6 parameters in the menu). The manual has some information about this but it's very brief, it would be great to listen to some examples too.
22:32 totally with you Bo! And another thing about the XD Korg, if you're listening in. Why oh why would you go and remove the sustain and release from the filter envelope generator? It's such a tiny thing! It doesn't make the synth a whole lot more expensive to manufacture, to keep these 2 measely potentiometers! Why would you remove it? And the filter... now I may be getting into something that would add a bit to the price, if I suggest bandpass and highpass multimode filters, but why would you at least not keep the 4-pole 24 db/octave option? These are just tiny design choices, that really makes no sense! I'm still going to order a minilogue though, because it is still afterall one of the best bangs for the buck, an analog polysynth priced at just around 5-600 euroes. The only analog synth that is competitive with the minilogue in that price range is the behringer deepmind 6 voice. But seriously korg, I don't get it. Add another 50 euroes to the price and let us keep those features.
Speaking of the joystick, I was pretty pissed when mine broke off within the first month. Not even abusing it, just popped off.. I think because the stick itself is plastic while the cap is metal so the threads just don't hold up.
Very interesting video! I'm still watching, but thanks for answering my question about the joystick having a spring in it was answered, thanks Bo! I really would love it if they had both taken that out so it can be positioned freely and allowed us to program both the X *and* Y ... with that digital oscillator and the FX it would be a great homage to the D-50 (and a fun way to stick it to Roland a bit). Add some layering of control functions (maybe two or three slots per direction)? Being able to morph between oscillator shapes and, maybe, FX functions simultaneously? That would be amazing!
The closest thing to a synthesizer I own is a keyboard (which isn't a synthesizer at all, only a PSR-E413), and my heart longs for one of these XD's... it seems to be the perfect piece of kit for someone with limited space and financial capabilities. This video absolutely convinced me about its range of functions and ways to create music. Is there anybody who enjoys giving gifts to a fellow young syngh lover?
Thank you gor the right question at 20:46 about the limitation of this sequencer! Even the MC 303 from '97 can be 4 times longer which should be at least the standard for every sequencer these days! Just don't get why you'd like to limit this still "quite complex" synth to these few steps only. Imagine the amount of those different programmable variables if you could only quadruple the sequencer that just should skip automatically to the 2, 3, and 4/16 in that little visual monitor if chosen to or four..😉😁😃 what's the big deal??🙄😏
Hi, sorry if you already said it, but it is not clear for me if you can change the mode (via the voice knob) of the arpeggiator per step? Thanks for the video!

Im sure someone else has asked this question. Im also making a request about your coffee making choices. Could you use a Turkish press next time? They're classier! Thanks and thanks for the videos
Used to be that the Mono had a better sequencer with motion sequencing, less low end loss when cranking resonance, higher lfo rate, one shot lfo and a sweet drive. Now the new Mini XD got some of those features too. Sadly Drive doesn't have a knob, but a 0, 50 and 100% switch. And I don't know if the new Mini XD filter is identical to the Mono filter or somewhere in between. And of course that new digital oscilator that's only in the Mini. It's becoming a much harder comparison. I do know I didn't care very much about the original Mini, I did really want the Mono. But I do want this new Mini XD pretty badly.
